Nice job, congrats. Hoping some good video comes out of the event. It sounds like there were some good matches.

Since '91, really?

Do you know who else is competing this year?

I imagine you'll see many of the bots in the videos return. I'd be surprised if Uberclocker, Scary-go-round, Overthruster, Omega Force, Tetanus Shot, Jaws, iRobob, and Blitz weren't all there.

I won't know the full list until the event starts because they don't do pre-registration, since there's no entry fee for bots (you just have to attend Dragon Con)

Real Robotics Discussion / Dragon Con Robot Battles 2013

Quote
Since 1991, Robot Battles has been staging robotic combat competitions around the United States, with annual events currently held in Chattanooga, Tennessee at Chattacon, in Atlanta at Dragon*Con, and near Nashville, Tennessee at the Geek Media Expo. Past events have been staged events in Florida, Alabama, North Carolina and Colorado.

Robot Battles is one of the oldest continuously running robotic combat competitions in the world, and is a direct descendant of the oldest still running robotic event: the "Critter Crunch" held every year at MileHiCon in Denver, Colorado.

So what makes Robot Battles different? Well, we don't have a TV show, we don't have supermodels, and we don't have huge cash prizes. What we do have is a creatively unique host, some of the most imaginative builders around, and the most involved audiences in the country. You never know what to expect, so be sure to get a good seat and enjoy!

NEXT EVENT: Our next competition, Robot Battles 47, will be at Dragon*Con over the Labor Day Weekend with a MicroBattles event on Sunday and a SumoBattes event on Monday.

Robot Battles is what I consider one of my big two events each year, the other being Motorama. The event is great fun and both days have absolutely massive (At least 1,500 people at any one time) crowds. I'll be bringing the whole fleet as usual and Near Chaos Robotics will be defending the 1lb, 12lb and 30lb titles.

Not too keen on the wedge on the hammer, and I would probably swap out the sheets on the SS for a extender for more real life shenanigans personally, but they all look quite good.

I hear you on the wedge, but without it the bot is horrendously unstable when using the hammer. I figured there was nothing too un-IRL about it, so I kept it. As for the sheets, I wanted something symmetrical so that the bot has an easier time righting itself. A single extender would have been too thin, and using multiple extenders would have looked bizarre.

Flat wedge plate is totally legit for a hammer-

Funnily enough I was looking at that earlier and thinking how cool it'd be if someone tried it.

It seemed like an interesting one to try. Took a bit to get the passive sri-mech working. As long as it keeps attempting to drive, it seems to eventually right itself.

Here's a pile that can be dropped right into the beta without touching the AI/Bindings. 15 bots total. If anyone wants to run with it from here, feel free. Current intention is functional, ok bots. Not worrying much about making them exceptional.

I think they just gave up on it. It's really easy to build a bot based on a bot that's already made in RA2, so there really aren't any excuses.
There is still a ton of bots missing, and no, it's not that easy. You have to actually make it look GOOD, not some piece of crap. Then you have to go and skin it, and AI it. Do you really think building 75 robots, skinning them, and then AIing them is easy?

I actually finished all of the bots that didn't already have at least one example up and posted it in this very thread, so there's at least one of every bot.

So, what's happening with this?

I tend to only bother naming the ones that are planned to go into tournaments. The rest get the default or a descriptive name

(Image removed from quote.)

got bored and decided to to a cardboard mockup of the armor and stuff.

sorry for the blurry image, this pic was rushed :P

I like the look of it. Make sure to check the weight balance on the real version before the event, and put the heavy stuff as far back as possible. If the balance is too far forward it can get stuck on its nose, which will suck.

I think that's the lot of the bots you needed.

Here's all the lightweights that don't appear to have been done. Kept the style/weapons the same for easy drop in.
