I sent my entry. I have a bad feeling that my entry is going to be another SFTW, though.

How do you think I fit everything in the first place? Probably would be better with only 2 spinners, a double wedge and 4WD, yeah. I'm gonna try doing that, although I'm not entirely certain how I will. 1305

I could go on ranting forever about WMM. My first year or so on the internet were spent with Halo PC modders, so I had a lot of run-ins with that godforsaken program.
I just use Camtasia Sudio now (for lack of a better program). I think I'll have look into that WAX thing. 1306

P-p-p-page breaker.
I hate these commercials. State Farm couldn't have picked a guy with a more cocky and condescending undertone. "We've got more people than everyone else, so that makes us better." "State farm is so great, I'm not going to let you say sh*t." Also, they like to use bringing your own bagged lunch as how people save money. Oh, and if you haven't noticed they use the same boring music for every commercial. 1307

Here's a robot I just sort of made up on the spot without and premeditated designing or anything. I first built the super compact DSA chassis which could house two-wheel drive, two blacks, and 4 snappers and didn't know what to do with it. So, I just put four spinners on it and name it Seal of Approval. For something I didn't plan, it's a pretty good robot, however I keep having an annoying problem where robots (even if they're not remotely wedge shaped) can get under it and start gut ripping it. This is why I have that stupid wedge appendage (which does little to fix the problem). If this doesn't happen, Seal of Approval almost always wins.
I'm open to any suggestions or constructive criticism, as usual. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

#1 obviously doesn't have a battery or maybe even a CB for that matter.

Stock Showcases / Re: Sparkeys showcase« on: August 29, 2010, 03:18:40 PM »The collision mesh (closest thing to a "hitbox") for the blade is simply a rectangular prism (normals are what determine which side deals damage). Its been awhile since I made a bot but if I remember correctly, J is correct about the lighter side being the side that delivers damage. I also wouldn't call the normals backwards because IMO its lighter because the graphic artist wanted to make it look like it was angling inward into a point (similar to a table knife). I'm either misreading or we're not on the same page. I just made a HS in RA2 with blades. The blades were set so the dark side (the side J said did no damage) would hit the enemy robot, and it did damage and destroyed them. 1311
Stock Showcases / Re: Sparkeys showcase« on: August 29, 2010, 11:35:42 AM »(Image removed from quote.)EDIT: This also adds to the fact how the sword blades only do damage with the dull side, as its hitbox is backward. I'm pretty certain you have it backwards. Anyway, nice idea with the HW VS sparkey (putting the ram plates in front of the discs), but you can do better.

Why did you put forth the effort of making a splash if the robot is not finished? Sure Sage and other experienced builders do that, but that's just because they usually get it right the first time.
You've done a good job so far, but you can always do better. Here's some stuff you could do to help improve the robot: -Build to the weight limit. Yes, I know you didn't want to hear about this, but you can't expect a 150kg underweight robot to not attract negative attention. -Add armor. Without component armor, your chassis is exposed to anything the enemy can dish out on you. -Mount the spinners on motors. Whether these motors be snappers or servos, it doesn't matter. Attaching them to motors will make them faster and a whole lot more effective. -Don't be afraid to reshape the chassis. Your design has alot of potential for improvement, and you can't be afraid to reshape the chassis in order to do so. If you're afraid of loosing your work, just export the robot before you remake the chassis. Please don't quote me and add counterarguments as to why you shouldn't follow the suggestions simply because you don't want to. 1314

Off-Topic Discussion / GTM Radio Show/Wild Card« on: August 26, 2010, 02:08:48 PM »
So it's already been determined that there's going to be a GTM Radio show and I'm gonna be the "DJ". It's going to be pre-recorded (to avoid annoying cameos from my family) probably the night before the show. Serge and I haven't determined when to broadcast yet, but we're going to try and pick a time that allows people in all or most timezones to listen.
The music during this radio show is going to be determined by me, but I'm going to try to play a variety of music everyone will like. I'm not going to promote any of my own music either. I'll announce the name and artist of every song before and after I play it, and if someone still manages to miss the name, I'll have a playlist on my site. I've also decided to have a wild card song. Everyone can submit one song per person (in this thread) and when I do the radio show I'll randomly pick a song to play. I'm gonna try and do this for every radio show. Also, if there's something you want me to announce on the radio, send me a PM about it. |
