Stock Showcases / Re: Jamin's things« on: August 20, 2012, 03:03:39 PM »Good to see you building to the weight limit, plus a pretty good job making the chassis compact. As Gauche said, having the wheels in the middle will make it tip from front to back. So instead of putting the Z-teks like that, add a pair of 40cms pointing backwards where the drive is now, then put the drive on the end of those and switch to shinies. Then you can lengthen the stabilizers with 20cms. I spent a very ridiculous amount of my time trying to get this to work, and it wouldn't. The problem was either stability (tipping over) or the wheels wouldn't make contact with the ground...so I just ended up doing this. ![]() Maybe my lack of sleep is messing with me, I should probably work on redesigning it when I am more awake. 1263

Real Robotics Discussion / Obscure robots built by famous/well known builders?« on: August 20, 2012, 04:25:14 AM »
I've noticed that a lot of the builders responsible for well known machines also built robots that either had little success or where entered into less well known competitions. An example being Jonathan Ridder, who not only being known for Ziggo
![]() Also competed in the US Robot Wars in 95, 96, and 97 with a series of featherweight, wedge shaped robots named Ziggy (one of which later sported a saw blade) ![]() ![]() ![]() He also had a RW 1996 competitor named "Wonderbug" ![]() and later on he also built a rammer named Ziggzagg ![]() EDIT: The Panic Attack team also competed in Battlebots with a flipper named Scallywag ![]() 1273

If that was a lightweight IRL you could totally pull off putting the receiver, speed controls, batteries etc. inside of the chassis. The CB exostacking is fine, no 'bot electronics are that big IRL.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: General Chatter Thread« on: August 19, 2012, 12:43:50 PM »He did kinda warn people about the link. It may have caused drama but only indirectly as the reaction to it is what caused it.I'm not quite following you. I haven't looked at this current state of affairs properly, but generally people tend to make of using the point that Jonzu is a furry as a point of dismissing his arguments in discussion, and quite often it's a point brought up by you guys, rather than him. The only reason he talks about it is because quite often you randomly start some hate train at him on the subject. You intentionally insitigated this whole argument by putting the furry in your avatar and then linking to the source image, you knew what was coming, and like I said you where just baiting us all for negative attention. Even so, he should know by now that posting that kind of stuff here/putting it in your profile is going to make you a target no matter what (which I don't always agree with). I am not saying that he shouldn't be able to do what he wants, but you would think that after all of the other crazy flame wars he's been involved in over similar stuff he'd know what to expect by now. however, I will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he wasn't trying to troll us all this time. 1279

This all happened because Jonzu decided that it would be a good idea to link to the furry porn image that he took his avatar from after someone made an innocent remark about it. ![]() He knows enough and has been a part of enough flame wars by now to know that doing something like that is a pretty risky idea in this community. After he posted the link, one of then mods modified his avatar to have a bullet hole in her forehead and blood dripping out of her mouth, and Jonzu amedietly assumed that it was Nary who did it. So he went on a baww rampage about how he was a bad mod, and how he'd do a better job etc etc etc which snowballed the remainder of the flame war. Although editing his avatar was sort of unnecessary, it looked a lot like, as I said before, he was just trying to bait us all in for some negative attention. 1280
