Just drive with drums off, then with drums on.  It all depends on how many motors you have on at the time.  It will be slow when all 4 motors are on at a time.

For top armor, I prefer the double 40cm skirt, or the side panel, over DSL Bar.

Drop the wheels down to shiny so you can afford the 4th battery.  If you start out underpower you are going to be just as slow anyway.

You should learn CSS and use Dreamweaver.

Even if you type 90% of the stuff in, seeing where things are as you type helps.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: BitDefender vs. Steam

I don't use internet security.  I turn off all my firewalls and only have avast for weekly scans.  I think router/script block is enough to block off most things that I didn't stupidly download/install myself, and I don't expect a program to save me from those.

But then again, I don't use Steam either.  The concept of automated downloads bothers me to no end.

IDEA GET

Garvin vs. GF93 for that spot! :D

What?! You give Garvin the spot, and then twist right around and stab him in the back? I know his bot looks terrible, but as the tournament host you gave him the spot, and you accepted his entry. You shouldn't be allowed to just throw in a random Wildcard match just because Garvin's bot is unpopular.
Agree.  Nothing in the rules suggest the bot must look good, and I can't conceive what realism is suppose to mean if a box with 2 wheels and some poles are consider impossible in real life.

I know some of you might feel cheated.  But to me the 2 shell spinners are trying much harder to win than this box with poles.  They are clearly not build for aesthetics, innovations, or simulations.  They are build because shell are known top tier on DSL.

That said, even if the wildcard match did happen, I got a feeling that GF93 will lose anyway.

What robot have you seen that looks like it, then?
It looks too hideous for anyone to actually spend money to build it in real life.

It looks terrible sure, but what's unrealistic about it?  It's a box with spikes and wheels sticking out.  I assume it wouldn't even be that hard to build in real life.

Gravin's bot don't suck that bad in combat.  Why do people keep assuming it does?

Also watched round 1

123STW: the bot itself looks great BUT I dislike the hingewedge and the razor spam.
What razor spam?  They are not even placed to hit.  If I want to razor spam I would put them all in the front, and it will not violate the current rule requirement.

Can't people just appreciate that the razors' there to look nice?

I thought I send in the reskinned version of my bot.

Yes, you did, but they kept crashing my game, and I was tired, so I didn't bother.

First 2 matches filmed.
Did you notice I changed the "name" of the reskinned bot?  I did send you the new binding for it.

If you just copy in the new one then yeah it will crash.

I thought I send in the reskinned version of my bot.

I know it will lose in round 1, clearly it can't fight a HS with dual perm, but it be nice to at least look right.

Lol wasn't even looking clearly when I made that reply.

You know rule of 7 just don't occur to me anymore since I notice them right away.  It's the asymmetries of components that bothers me the most.

What were you trying to attach to what?
I was trying to attach a medium drum to another medium drum. I then tried to attach beater bars to the first one, which I did, but I couldn't attach them to the second one along the line.

Pictures?
Here-
(Image removed from quote.)
For some reason, I cannot attach the bars to the second drum.
Yeah if you havn't notices about 90% of the components are not symmetrical on DSL.

123 ! YOU WILL BE DEFEATED ! ON MY OWN BLOOD AND ANGER AND WILL TO WIN THIS FIGHT, YOU SHALL FALL THIS DAY ! AND NEITHER YOUR SMARTS NOR YOUR PREPARATION SHALL BE A MATCH FOR MY PURE, UNALTERED WISH TO DEFEAT YOU, AND THRUST MY ARMS INTO THE SKY AND SAY "I HAVE DEFEATED THE BEST DSL BUILDER EVER ! TREMBLE BEFORE MY AWESOMENESS !"
I don't have any ideas at this time, so I am pretty sure you will win.

Art bot ideas don't really come at will for me unfortunately.  So unless I have some stroke of genius the next few days the result might be less than mediocre.

Tournament Archives / Re: Placeholder Bot Ban
« on: June 24, 2011, 04:49:41 PM »
HE SENT ME A VALID BOT MEETING ALL THOSE REQUIREMENTS. IT WAS AN HS. IT WAS CALLED "PLACEHOLDER". HOWEVER, HE WANTED TO UPDATE IT INTO A DRUM, SO HE CONTACTED ME AND I GAVE HIM 3 DAYS. AM I NOT CLEAR ENOUGH?
I wasn't talking about this case in specific, I am talking about the concept of placeholders in general.

In this case, the person fully admitting that the bot he send is not the bot he intends to use.  This means that the bot he send is not an entry to begin with, and therefore should not take up a slot.

The distinction between a placeholder and a real entry will be rather it is still the same bot after the update.  If the bot is changed to the point where it's clearly not the same by the average observer, then it is a placeholder.

I am not trying to make a call about your decision.  This is a topic on placeholder bot in general, and I am simply expressing my views toward it.

And GF & FOTEPX should bothe be taken out of Freez's tourney IMO
No. We never established that placeholder bots weren't to be allowed, so all current tournaments should go unchanged.
Disagree.

Placeholder don't meet the other requirements.  Take this one for example

Quote
RULES
- DSL HW
- BattleBox 2.0 arena
- 16 entries
- 3 minute matches
- Realistic Rule applies very strongly
- No NARmour
- 1 Havok restart, 2nd time eliminated
- No cheatbot2
- No BFE, AAM, Trov Glitch, NCR glitch, or any glitch that makes the bot unrealistic
- Replicas are NOT allowed
- Cannot use DSA (why would you?)
- Walkers and shufflers can we

The only valid "placeholder" then would be a bot that meets all those requirements, and can participate in the tournament even without update.  An empty chassis is clearly not a DSL HW Bot.

it has a complete different name. I was changing the kevlar.bmp to RyuPlate.bmp

edit:

also I agree with 123 with that placeholder thing. sending an empty chassis is just the same as posting for reserving a spot with a little bit of work
They don't have the same number of letters.

Change it to RyuPla.bmp

yeah. I`ve done that but I ran into trouble for some reason. Sonny is trying to help me out on that atm
Name your skin something else.  Most likely it's a name conflict.

Are GF and FOTEPX a team?
No- we've both sent Placeholder bots whilst we finish off our actual entries.

Placeholder bot is so bullsh**.  If you not finish then you need to give it up to someone who is.  That's why the whole "post on forum to reserved" is banned to begin with.  It's not fair that someone else is done can't enter because someone send an empty chassis.

You don't need to if all you want to do is change the skin map.  You can open the gmf with a text file and just type in a new name (with the same amount of characters).

You only need to use GMF edit is if you want some complex skinning.

I got that thing skinned and AIed.  Lets see if I made it on-time.

Also, can I send in reskin for components?
