Ironforge TC Showcases / Battleshots
« on: September 29, 2014, 08:36:52 PM »
We don't have one of these threads for the Ironforge section, so why not?

Has anyone else managed to defeat Pizza Party? Took ~3 minutes of horrible driving and a bunch of 10,000-30,000 damage hits to beat it.

SHW with no ballast.

Ti 5, 10 of the largest Iron Spikes. That's 8000 DP total, AKA a ton of damage. Not counting the 4 extra spikes at the front, of course.

General Support / Re: Fraps Slowing Down Game

Tourney host protips:
  • Reduce your in-game screen-res to the lowest you can. Same with the graphics quality. Turn everything down (except for audio, that doesn't really matter as much).
  • Close any hardware intensive programs (skype, steam, internet browsers etc).
  • Lower the frames that FRAPS records to something like 30.
  • To defeat the cyberdemon, shoot at it until it dies.

FYI, more RAM = FRAPS behaves better. You may want to consider upgrading your computer after you are done with this tourney. Normally FRAPS only misbehaves when you have anything in the range of 1-2 GB or RAM.

and for fug's sake don't put skrilricks music in your videos (<-- most important point right here folks)

Modifications / Re: questions regarding game music and texture packs
« on: September 28, 2014, 01:00:48 PM »
Music files MUST be .mp3 with 128 kbps or it will not work. Put them in the Music folder under Main UI, Team HQ or Workshop.

Texture files MUST be 24(?) bit .bmp that is a power of 2 by power of 2 large (32x32, 64x64, 128x128, 256x256, etc) or it will not work either. Decals can either be .bmp or .tga, but people use .tga because it allows for transparency.

Music does not effect sound, sounds are in the Sounds folder, of course.

I think the first measurement I'll take to preventing this from happening twice is getting windows 7 once and for all and letting xp-chan rest peacefully

No I want to use Goathammer.
AS is using two of my robots, so if anyone wants to use my Fatal Traction rep, that's cool with me.
BTW jaydee, it's kind of like iron spaghetti where Sage built it and Scrap took all the credit. Kurt and I both agreed on it so it should be cool man yeah dude fo shizzle dog

WORDS B^U
But everything in Kurt's post was legitimate advice, even if he wasn't exactly the clearest about it. It seems that you had weight left over, so you slapped a spinner on top and said "that oughta do it!" Even after that you STILL have something like 60-70kg left but that's beside the point. The spinner on top is pointless and tacked on.

What you should do, is plan out a design before you go and build the actual robot, so you don't end up with a random chassis with components in it. Eventually you'll just memorize the weights/rough dimensions of all the components and be able to make a tight enough chassis in a few tries, but for now work on figuring out how to reduce the amount of empty space in the chassis and how to properly implement what you want into this design (in this case, figure out how to lower the spinner so it actually hits things).

this post was a good use of 10 minutes

Reminder that there's monetary offers on amazon/ebay/other online stores RIGHT NOW for a demo that'll be out (albeit with 30 uses, but that'll serve until the actual game is released) in less than a week's time.

I mean, ASAI isn't cancelled or anything because of my hard drive issues. If my sh**ty laptop does goes into the trash, though, I'll just restart the building from the v0.0 release and throw in any of my bots I have lying around in my PM box.

But yeah, I'll accept teams sometime in the future, I'll probably do something like ARBCC and add some of the better built teams to ASAI.

and also to get more detailed photos of each bot from my understanding.
At least it's something.

But yeah, what does "OFFICIAL" mean apart from "i need to ask everyone for permission now"? Is RW inc./whoever going to put this on their website buried in the misc. section?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but have you really been contacting the guys that made each robot and saying "uhhh yes my name is hereticblue from the renowned website gametechmods.com, do you mind if we recreate this robot for this mod we're making in our free time for no monetary profit, in this 10 year old game practically NOBODY has heard of?" Would that be correct? Or am I just misunderstanding something here?

Also, turns out my computer can't even detect the hard drive to begin with. Let's hope this is a problem with the laptop and not the hard drive itself.
