Look at bots like Hazcon and Flash Back, they have two upper skirts to act as a wedge, but one skirt that gets under the other bot to feed other bots to the weapons.

First, those "hammers" are single sided picaxes.
Seccond, They only push the enemy out of the ax's way if you activate them.
It's all in the technique. Its still a hammer poker hybrid. And do you honestly think the AI will not use the pistons before the hammer fires? I have been much longer than you have.
