Hey Naryar, thanks for the consideration. Enigma literally said that someone was going to make a CF popup on the signups page though, so I decided to do it myself, and honestly I think it's what people are expecting from this tournament. In practice the wedge isn't bad (and I don't know if the fact that I'm driving my robot against AI'd robots is a big factor in this) but I seem to be able to get under many of the starecore v3 robots. And the notchy extenders aren't a problem at all, opponents slide right up.

If there's a way to make baseplate components show, then doing that would definitely be an improvement.

Thanks so much for the responses!

Pwnator, wider wedges would be better. Initially I was afraid an HS would be able to strike the extenders with the wedge and that's why I have them on the inside of the indestructible extenderwork. But now that I think about it, maybe this tends to not be an issue. In which case I would turn the snappers around in a rebuild.

Also I did not know that 140 cm wedges were 5 kg, that is definitely good information I would make the chassis longer in a rebuild to get them to fit.

And alas, I tested in battle and it seems that the saws don't do damage. So I should replace them with disks and also replace the spike strips. Oh well RA2, you're a quirky game.

So I made a robot for Enigma's tournament. Welcome to stock in 2017.

Name: Snap in the Box (which is ironic considering that there is no "box" with a u-shaped trov chassis)
795.8 kg, DSA
Virtually indestructible CF popup.

This has:
a wirethin chassis
an indestructible extenderwork wedge
4 HP Z-tek (2 are stacked perfectly inside of each other by CF)
indestructible sawblades for protection (I chose sawblades since they weigh 1 more kg than a disk of the same diameter and do a wee bit of damage)
4 DDTs, 2 carry 4 razors, 2 carry 5 razors; all razors are attached directly to DDT since I don't need extenderwork with the opponent sitting litterally on the DDT (also component hermaphroditism allows for multiple components to be attached to the same point, even if something else is already attached there. Which is a whole 'nother level of broken.)
2 snapper wedges with 120 cm extenders
3 supervolts
Indestructible extenders which protect the edge of the wire thin chassis (did I mention indestructible?)
A whole lot of awesome

Here's what it looks like in garage:

Looks pretty clean, huh? I found out the sawblades and extender wedge are all there, just invisible. So it's like its protected by a force field. And has a magical floating wedge.

But I'm a terrible stock builder so I'm sure I made some mistakes. Any suggestions?

Hangin vs. Divine Intervention had that incredibly close semifinal, so I think that would make sense for a grudge match.

The content, quality, editing and speed of these videos is incredible! Thanks Kurt!

The entries for this tournament are great as well.

I agree with Reier. I know this has already basically been said, I know that I may be biased, and I know that I'm not that active, but here's what I think:

Given that:
1) The GTMC is (the most) competitive tournament
2) Anything "competitive" implies competitors want to WIN
3) Competitors will try to make the best robot they can within given restraints (because they want to win)
4) IRL legality is fuzzy and subjective

It's reasonable to conclude that there will be a lot of try-hard robots that cut close into the legality of an IRL robot, and this puts a lot of pressure on the tournament host to be fair (because the metagame essentially hinges on the leniency of the hosts).

By contrast DSL-S is much more black-and-white. There are either chassis bisections, or there aren't. There is an intersection between moving parts, or an intersection with batteries/motors, or there aren't.

Why do we still have IRL tournaments, then? Because its less about trying to win. Of course, competitors still want to win, but IRL tournaments are not as competitive by design, competitors care less about winning and more about fun, and then they work with less of an incentive to interfere with IRL legality. There's an appeal that comes from how these tournaments look, as Reier has said. Make an IRL tournament too competitive, and problems arise.

gonna dump the rebuild

Steel 10, 3744.5 kg

Much more stable than the last (most likely because I added 25 ballasts, which should be the maximum amount for a robot of this weight).
However the weapons are still hitting the ground. I can make the axes 50 -> 40 cm, but then what to do with all that weight...
If I ever rebuild a third time I'll replace the disks with nonaplates and extenders to get in another row of axes.
I also have 2 extra diehards which I can turn into weight, and I can lighten the stablizers in the back.

Fortunately, even though it only has 6 twinbirds it drives at a pretty good speed. Not "fast" but definitely enough.

Edit: by the way, putting on all the armor plates takes far more time than anything else, especially with having to load out the treads and weapons (and then I accidentally removed that armor later on and had to redo snapperloads, etc)

--- 1 DAY LATER ---

third version - this is a tweak of the previous version:
3747.4 kg, Titanium 10

50 cm axe -> 30 cm axe x2

This is more stable and can move without constantly flipping over. Smaller axes make the weapon better shaped for scooping. However when the weapons starts up and if it collides hard with another robot, it will start doing some somersaults. And even with all that space (over 10 cm of space) the weapons still hit the ground due to how much the front treads bend. The front trends can bend at a very aggressive angle, especially when turning. I think the only way to fix this would be to make the robot entirely back-wheel drive and use stabilizing bars or something in front, since the bending and twisting of axels out of their normal place is inevitable with having a heavy robot with so much weight in front, and only two front wheels.

I've never really believed in these kinds of tests though. And this test basically rewords the same questions over and over again. Like how many times did it ask "are you anti-social," "are you organized"...

If I were to ever run a tournament, it would probably be Ironforge UHW. This probably makes me sound 12, but I like huge robots.

Anyway, here's a new bot:

IF UHW, DLS-S Standard realism
(and since HW is 400, I'm calling 2500 UHW)
2496.8 kgs, Alu 3
And big robots naturally need pretentious names. This is called "Myth of the Metal Mountain."

This robot ended up pretty wide. A lot wider than I imagined it in my head. How wide? Well, here's a good visual. Almost as wide as the test garage.

If you're wondering why the robot has only Alu 3 and is missing front armor, it's because I screwed up some weight calculations on the weapons and I need a rebuild/redesign to fix it. I figured that it would still be pretty effective. Except its actually pretty bad in battle since the weapons are too close to the ground, and because of RA2's bouncy nature (and I'm sure having the front wheels mounted on skirt hinges doesn't help) the weapons hit the ground and cause the robot to flip over a lot.

(so the axe blades are a little too close to the ground)

Here's a quick breakdown:
6 6-mags
48 50cm axes (8 per disk, 6 disks)
10 locked twinbirds
4 small treads, 6 big treads
8 diehards to power a total of 16 spin motors

As always, suggestions and comments are welcome.

Edit: Dang it I missed an axe.

I'm liking this bot I just built:

HW Ironforge Unrealistic. 499.3 kg (2 ballasts), Plastic 5. It was going to be an entry for Wengruasu until my dumb brain understood it was a MW tournament.

It has a quad tri-bar setup to make it similar to a stock 36HS. (Except the weapons are 12 100cm Cutting Edges).
It's well protected with Triple Decker Sandwichtm armor and it's destructive the way I like my robots to be.

If there's ever another Ironforge Unrealistic tournament (and hopefully there will be since those are fresh) for HWs then I'll rebuild this. Currently the battery power doesn't last that long (1 diehard and 4 ants for 2 slimbody drive motors and 4 medium z-teks) so the next version would have 2 diehards, shorter tribars to get the weight for them, and if I can fit it (weight wise) a wider middle armor layer to protect the wheels. (Edit: and shortening the tribars would also help with spinup time.) Also the weapons are a bit high so I might reconfigure the z-teks upside-down. Building this was a bit of a pain though since it's all off of a single skirt hinge, and the first time I messed up the effe and had to spend 2 hours rebuilding :dead: (although I'm sure many of you have had more tedious rebuilds than that).

Any suggestions/improvements are welcome as always!

Edit: And I wonder what weapons would be best to use here? The reach could be a little less and it would be helpful if the weapons covered a wider area high-wise (to hit low robots; to protect the tribar), so maybe I should use battle axes angled downwards? Crushing teeth have a good shape but I'm not sure this is the best place for a full-concussion weapon (and on the beetlebros guide it says piercing weapons are better on spinners, although I'm not sure if that's accurate or if it applies here at all). Battle axes probably make the most sense though.

I guess I'll also show my desk and stuff. Doing this forced me to clean my desk for once.
(Image removed from quote.)
It's nice because the shape of the desk works as an armrest.
Also, I think I have the same mouse as Badger (it's off to the side in Badger's picture).
Doesn't look like any mouse I own. What brand is it?

Nice setup my dude, very neat. Have you considered investing in a mechanical keyboard?

My mouse is called Talon Blu. I looked at your mice again and upon closer inspection realized some differences in design (in the shape, in the lights).
(btw the mouse is oddly wide so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone).

Edit: I had to look up what mechanical keyboards are lol, maybe I'll consider one  if I ever need a new keyboard.

I edited that in right after I posted it so that might have caused some confusion :x

Anyway, the computer had actually been unused for some time due to moving which I think added to the dust. The first thing I did when I unpacked it was clean it up  :claping.
