Congratulations are in order for Amy Winehouse. She's spent three years completely sober. Well done, Amy.
I love her song Rehab. Imagine if Kurt Cobain sang a ditty about how he refused to stop practicing baton twirling with shotguns.

I got the chrome Ziggo minibot when I was like 6 years old....and then I managed to break the flag off of it and lose it within 5 hours....woops Also seeing the picture I took of that Ginsu minibot makes me wanna go find where I put all of them.......
Congratulations, you destroyed the only known chromebot Ziggo in existence. Also, thanks for owning a Ginsu and being able to post a picture of it. I cannot tell you how pissed off I am that I somehow managed to LOSE mine. It was my favorite one. (Knowing me, because of this I probably put it somewhere separate to keep it "safe".) In other news I am also still diligently working on the "something pretty awesome" thing I mentioned earlier in this thread. It's actually more than one thing -- one of which I am making promising progress on -- and I'm eager to put the articles together when I can. I'm hoping to at least have the biggie completed this year.

If you're building a Mortis replica you also have to build that ridiculous remote dock that the driver wore, otherwise all you have is a glorified Suicidal Tendencies with nicer tracks. When I was building ants and beetles I salvaged/created tank tracks from Lego Mindstorms and model kit tracks. Not sure if that would hold up to the 30lb class (on a larger scale at least) but it's a possibility.

Just read the minibots article, and very much enjoyed reading it :)
Some of those battlebots minibots look better quality than the robot wars minibots I own, although there are still some really good robot wars minibots too. I might dig my minibots out and have another look now, to see if they still look up to standard. I remember the pussycat minibot being pretty horrible, but not much else.
Thanks! :3 By all means please do, I've never seen any Robot Wars merchandise. Then again, I've never specifically sought it out but I'm intrigued as to what it's like. :) Nice article, makes me wanna go find my mini bots. I actually remember buying these in a bag of two from kb toys for a dollar. I never bought or havd even seen the three pack.
See, that's the crazy thing -- the Wiki mentions they were told in packs of 2, 3, and 5. You may have been one of the folks who found the 2 pack but much like what you said about the pack of 3, I've never seen them sold in sets of 2 before. Must have been a regional or overstock-type of situation. It's also very strange that across everyone who's pooled their resources for the Wiki NOBODY has any of the finalists or chromebots which leads me to believe that maybe they had not yet been produced; Interactive Toy may have wanted to get people hooked on the set first and then start including the champions and such.

RA2 is special. :) There has not been and likely will not be another game like it since it's tied to heavily to a bygone era (BattleBots, et al.). I've played around here and there in the decade+ since the game's release (any my departure from the community) but things come back around. I hosted a FIRST event in February and it reminded me of RA2 and all the fun times I had during that initial period of discovery so I wanted to pursue that again.

When I stopped playing many years ago, it was because builders had basically done everything that could be done within the limitations of the game.
Nonsense, the possibilities are nearly endless. You just need the inspiration for it.
I meant when the community was pushing the very mechanics of RA2. The era when new types of robots were created, and physics breaking mechanics were discovered. Like "pop-ups" first being created, or Jimxorb's "rupt" glitch, or the tri-bar spinners with more tri-bar spinners on the ends that basically caused a havoc explosion.
There came a time when the era of discovery ended and robots started to become derivatives of the originals.
Creativity is definitely still possible, but I haven't seen anything truly new. The amount of value the community got out of RA2 is incredible, and it's definitely one of my all time best video game experiences.
I built two robots recently, Particle Accelerator and The Legend of Bryce Genesis, that were essentially proof of concept robots with unconventional and dare I say new designs. There is also a third robot I've entered, WE GOT DODGSON, that to the best of my knowledge is also the first of its kind in RA2 history. (It has not yet been unveiled so it's still a secret.) I feel the same way as you MV so that's why I started looking further into the game to see if there really still is uncharted territory. I believe there is. :)

Of course, iirc, Technex and MV did not exactly get along. he was a good builder though, and some good members from the official site had accounts there, including you. Technex had the best nicknames in the community: Technex --> Chex Mix COOL MAN (old name) --> COLON MAN If I remember right he was very self-centered and had an emote on his forums that said "BOW TO COOL MAN". This was later appopriated by RFSHQ since like everything in the RA2 community he briefly became the subject of community derision. I think I joined his forums because they were smaller and quieter and I wanted a place like that to wean me off of RA2 since I had been banned from AceUplink and was in the process of moving out of RFSHQ. If you search Technex's old posts here he apparently did some attention whoring by posting about some "RA2 Virus" that only affected your RA2 game and nothing else. Hilarious. I remember B4B and RA-Reborn, I was probably thinking of RFSHQ though.
Are you still playing RA2? It's great to see and RA2 legend still posting.
I am flattered. :P I do still "play" the game, though I admittedly took a huge hiatus to pursue some personal interests and focus on my career. These days I contribute cheeky robots to various tournaments but I do not actively spend a lot of time with the game or anything. I mostly enjoy the tournaments in between working on projects.

Why does Eternia turn so slowly? When I tested the robot out locally it was much more maneuverable than its appearance in the video.

I'm assuming the Technex quip was sarcastic? That guy was bad news and attracted a distinctly notorious crowd. I lent a hand to his forum for reasons unknown.
The other popular RA2 forums were ARC, Bots4Battle, and RA Reborn. B4B closed down, RA-Reborn was absorbed into RFSHQ, and ARC is still around today.

I almost think Fear and Respect should be removed. It's too hard to keep on top of everybody.
It's not so much "hard" as it is the numbers are inherently meaningless. There's already a system of labels in place that are applied to people to act as better descriptors of their accomplishments than some arbitrary rating system, especially when little is done to explain what the numbers actually represent.

Hah, I know that feeling - if 3 years makes you cringe, imagine 5. Or worse, imagine how Serge feels.
3. Or 5. Or 11.

Do any of these pairings have names? I'm curious to know. Mine is named Wreckx-N-Effect, even though the robots in the splash are presented in the wrong order.

Which ones do you need? I know the wiki has a lot of them.
Robots that I am aware of include Ginsu, Frenzy, Bad Attitude, and Ankle Biter. I know the BB Wiki has photos but I was intending to take some better ones since I mention in the article that these are "personal collection" ones. I have an Ankle Biter, however it's still sealed in its package. I kept some of my dupes sealed just because, so I am missing the opened Ankle Biter for sure. I have Ginsu's and Frenzy's stickers so I know that means at some point I had to have gotten the robots as well and I know for a fact I had Ginsu because it was my favorite one. My collection is pretty much identical to the ones on the Wiki. I do not own any of the bots missing from the list unfortunately, including the chromebots. I always keep an eye out for the toys on eBay but they are exceedingly rare and hard to find. I'm pissy because I'm missing my Ginsu since that was one of the rarest ones (by my math at least, considering I owned only one Ginsu and I personally bought several dozen packs of the MiniBots while they were around). edit: My brother can't find my Ginsu so I guess I will just finish the article as-is. I'm really pissed off that it's gone missing. double edit: The description of this auction listing is ****ing hilarious: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-MC-DONALDS-BATTLE-BOTS-ACTION-TOYS-SET-OF-8-TOYS-MIP-/141352611147?pt=Fast_Food_Cereal_Premiums&hash=item20e945ad4bTHIS SET IS FROM THE TV SEIRES IN 2001/2002 THAT WAS CALLED BATTLE BOTS WHERE MEN AND BOYS AND WOMEN MADE ROBOTS LIKE THINGS THEN THEY BATTLE IN A RING IT WAS FUN TO WATCH
WHAT U WILL GET IS A SET OF 8 TOYS ALL MINT IN PACKAGE THERE IS 7 PULLBACK ACTION TOY AND 1 WINDUP ACTION TOY
GOOD LUCK AND PLEASE CHECK MY OTHER AUCTION

Anyways, once I get some free time I would like to put together my MiniBots article. I don't know when I'll have a finished version of that however. Next week I will be largely unavailable since my partner is visiting. I'll get it done eventually. :)
This article is pretty much done, however I appear to be missing some of my MiniBots figurines so I've asked my brother to look for the missing ones and send them to me so I can take the necessary photographs. As soon as I get those I'll finalize the MiniBots piece. :)

i think ray billings has seen one of yours.
He's the builder of Last Rites, right? If so, he has. He was a good sport about it considering I used some pretty bad phrasing.
