The due date is January 26, 2014? So the entry was due eleven months ago? With all due respect, Trov, don't you mean December 26, 2014? Why am I typing questions? Why can't I stop? HELP ME?

I know I asked this before, but I was thinking that I could get this signups started somewhere around my Christmas break. Any objections to this getting started in about a month?
Only if your Christmas break is in twenty-nine Julys from now.

Does that mean we can talk smack about her?
I'm not quite sure since I don't know how Black Widow acts, but you might want to be careful with that. She has a Gametechmods account herself and can easily find Andy's Skype name (he has it just below his profile picture.)

Joy to the world, The Ounce is back!
I like the look of that bot. I'm guessing that you used the eFFe glitch to get the discs on the outside of the motor like that.

I've been coughing on and off both today and yesterday, sometimes just a little bit but others rather violently and many times in a row. My lungs just aren't what they used to be...

The Bot-yssey: Book oneSing to me of the bot, Muse, the bot of twists and turns... driven time and time again into pits, one he had plundered the hallowed heights of the arena. The king of Ithaca, Odysseus, a man of many tricks and tales, Has been absent. Sadly, much has changed since he departed twenty years ago fro Troy. They changed, and for the worse. As the man is missing, repulsive suitors have vexed the queen, Penelope. Day and night, she weeps for her royal husband. Penelope, the crafty woman, epitome of all Ithacan women, took matters into her own hands, Ultimately concocting a robot by no other name than that of her own son, Telemachus, prince of Ithaca. 'Twas not an easy build, by any stretch of the imagination, but the design ended well. Trials and tribulations passed, she ultimately turned to the gods for assistance. Her choice of armor changed multiple times, ultimately settling on Plastic 3. Six blades, each sixty centimeters in length, allow the bot to serve its purpose: destruction. Each blade, arranged in a spiral, allows for maximum damage, Positioned so to allow the bot to stay mobile, Even if, he is flipped upside-down. The gods, all-knowing and all-powerful, showed some mercy towards the weeping widow, Providing her with a pair of car batteries. One day, Penelope presented her contraption to the suitors. They were not deterred, and took to the robot. The blades, spinning at the suitors' legs, At unbelievable speed, cut through some. Nine suitors in total bled to their death, but alas, that was not enough. Antinous, the worst of all of them, seized a spear, one like the one the hero Odysseus carries, And pierced the thin plastic chassis o the robot. Penelope, the poor soul, wailed in anguish knowing that, for sure her plan had failed.

Yes! Continue the madness, the excellence, the chaos. As one who normally prefers order, I find this is borderline brilliant. Keep up the good work, Beaver!

DSL S is DSL Standard, so DSL like you have been building, robots based on efficiency, destruction and getting fast KOs. It's called DSL S to distinguish it from DSL IRL building, which is aimed at making a robot that looks and works like a real life robot.
In other words: Standard and IRL are general building styles, while DSL2 is the mod. The popup's chassis can be reduced in size. Due to wacky hitboxes, Left and Right NPC's, as well as their fast variations, can be placed in a way that the main body of the motor juts out from the rear of the chassis. Be warned, though, NPC's can barely survive one hit, but bots do not aim for the rear of the chassis. Most, if not all bots with NPC's take advantage of this trick (see: Cutting Wedge IV). This does not apply to DSL3, however, which is a completely separate modification altogether. The same can be done to the VS. Regarding the VS' weapon, LDS teeth on beaters is standard because it works. Make sure that the teeth are as close to the ground as possible at their lowest position as this allows for the VS to lift other bots with more ease.

Not too shabby, for someone that hasn't built in over two years.
Yes, we are still using DSL2.1 after all these years. Clickbeetle has released a beta of DSL3, though.

That is far too tall and its center of gravity is too high (RA2 doesn't defy ALL of the laws of physics!). This is why, as you said: it flops over like an idiot.
Shorten the bot by making the BSG's horizontal instead of vertical as well as making shorter extenders. Maybe shifting the BSGs farther forward would help with stability. You don't need titanium extenders on the BSGs; for supporting the bursts themselves, use Polycarbonate or Carbon Fiber. Please show us the insides. This is a requirement for Standard showcase posts, at least in my opinion.

All spin motors, regardless of their description, only need 1 small battery each to be powered for three minutes
I don't think this rule applies in stock.
It does, and this is because DSL (which I bet you had in mind) is just Stock with different components. Also, Ant batteries and Pinks have the same elecMaxInOutRate: 100. The only way to alter the effect of battery mechanics requires RA2's source code, which the community did not have in 2006 and does not have today.
Pinks suck, they have no total power at all, that's why they run out so fast. Ants are good because they have the same amount of total power as all other batteries in DSL
True, but they still have enough EMIOR to, in theory, supply a single spin motor with power for three minutes. I recognize that Nifties and Supervolts are superior batteries for anything.

O mighty Naryar, I mean not to rustle thous jimmies, but a black battery is a Supervolt. Perhaps, thous intention was to reference the Nifty.

You only need two black batteries for this robot. All spin motors, regardless of their description, only need 1 small battery each to be powered for three minutes and black batteries provide eight times the amperage as a small battery pack. Wedges look good, but I think you should straighten the spike strips using the eFFe glitch. This "eFFe glitch" is demonstrated in a number of video tutorials. Here is a collection of video tutorials for building tricks made by a veteran called Sage. Use these in your building. It may also help if your keyboard has a Pause/Break button like mine. Not all keyboards do; this is especially true of laptop keyboards. Pause/Break pauses the game... and then breaks it! Back to the robot... Drive is fine. It doesn't seem like this is intended to be a rammer/hammer hybrid, so 2WD HPZ with shines (2-wheel drive High-Powered Z-teks with shiny hub wheels) is fine. Razors are one of the best weapons in Stock, so keep those. As for the frontal defense, switch that out for a plow. The axes won't do much damage, so wasting weight on them is pointless. This could help protect the DDT burst a bit more. but now it seems the hammer has a tough time pulling itself back up after taking one or two direct hits.
You are correct on this; as exposed motors take more damage, their strength decreases. Components attached directly to the chassis can never fall off, but components on extenders or baseplate anchors can. A plow can protect the DDT burst better than that collage of axe heads you currently have. The wide nature of a plow (plus-sized if you will) also protects the narrow portion of the chassis from HS and SnS, two popular types of robots in competitive building. Plows are the norm on hammers, modern and archaic. Don't use ramplates--those, like plows, have 1000HP, so they are less effective at defense. They are still seen on popups because they are very compact. There is actually a weight class between 400 and 600kg called "Cruiserweight," which your bot falls into, but this class is not very popular. You could keep it a CW or make it a HW or MW.

Try to rotate the round extenders to a point where they used effectively, and use another round extender to attach the weapons and the plows.
Do you have any recommendations on the best way to do this? It's this reason I liked the square connectors since it lessened the amount of guesswork. Is there maybe a method of determining, before complete attachment, where the side connections will be?
When you rotate the components, the rotation looks choppy. This is because components are rotated by ten degrees per small interval. To rotate something by ninety (90) degrees, rotate the object by ten of these small intervals. Also, press F12 to show the collision meshes of the components. This will show that the collision mesh of the round extender is actually a square, making rotating the extender by 90 degrees easier. If you really want help, read Clickbeetle's Stock building techniques and Component statistics. These were made by Clickbeetle, one of Gametechmods' administrators and RA2 genius. Trust any advice he gives.

A straight line of beater bars is more practical than the angled arrangement you have going on there. Beater bars have the ability to stack end-to-end, making them functional extenders as well as effective weapons. This ability, unique to these weapons, is often taken advantage of in DSL Standard bots, particularly to place razor tips/LDS teeth on one end. I have one such bot in my DSL showcase, a bot that nobody would expect. The bot is called The Spanish Inquisition, as in "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!" The advantage of traditional pokers is that they can easily be made invertible. That srimech, as Naryar stated, is a waste of weight. If you were to keep the current design, you would need to replace the srimech with invertibility, moving the NPC's higher in the chassis and replacing the Hypnos with Vlads. Vlads are larger, but much slower than, Hypnos. A traditional poker design is invertible with Hypnos, provided the chassis is at minimum height. The other advantage of the traditional poker is the fact that less of the chassis is exposed to frontal attacks. The wedged poker has that entire front wedge exposed, although the only kinds of bots that can hit it are HS, rammers, and some VS. Traditional pokers have a chassis exposed only to the practically extinct hammer and the popup, which is already hard enough to counter as things are. TL;DR? Try the traditional flat poker design instead of what you currently have. Arrange the beater bars in a line rather than zigzagged as is on the current bot. Above all, do NOT give up!

Use a BSG-200 instead of a Mag Snapper for the srimech. Though a bit unwieldy, the BSG far exceeds the Mag Snapper, not in power, but in practicality. BSGs are lighter and drain less power than Mag Snappers, all for the same firing strength. This was not known to the public when DSL2 was new, but now we know better. This is why Velociraptor has Mag Snappers instead of the more practical BSGs, and why it is actually a Super Heavyweight at 811 kilograms.
Even if you changed the srimech, the collision mesh of the skirt hinges would be an impediment. In DSL2, skirt hinges are actually very weak burst motors, hence why their range is adjustable. This, in my opinion, is very clever as it re-purposes an existing game mechanic. However, the axle (the part the component attaches to) has a rectangular collision mesh that extends beyond the hinge itself. If one looked at the skirt hinge in F12 mode they would notice an odd wire-frame rectangle protruding from the back of the hinge's axle. The game, i kid you not, considers this invisible space as solid, making it impossible to place anything adjacent to a skirt hinge without either moving or snapper-loading the axle. Luckily, Clickbeetle has put a new skirt hinge, one without this awkward collision mesh, in DSL3.
I would like to see the front of the bot, particularly the layout of the weapons. If those are beater bars, then you have chosen a good weapon. I have been told that concussion-based weapons, such as beater bars, are ideal for pokers. Even if this isn't so, beater bars are good weapons, considered to be one of DSL's "Big Three" weapons, a title shared with Light Double-Sided Teeth and Razor Tips.
Do not change the drive. 2WD Fast NPC-T64 with Hypno wheels is ideal for this kind of robot: one that relies on speed. Be warned, however, that NPC motors have low HP and are usually found jutting out from the rear of the chassis. Although they will never completely fail due to being attached to the chassis, the slightest hit to a motor will leave your bot severely crippled. Don't worry about this as AI bots aim directly for the front of the bot, not the sides or rear. This is why AI bots are usually unable to preform certain maneuvers such as flanking.

very interesting and i like all of the bots and dig the theme youve got going on. themes are fun :)
though im dying to ask, because i dont know a thing about ironforge... since when have ballasts become a relevant item? i see it in a lot of ironforge showcases. they have a use now?
anyways, i like 'em all. keep it up
edit that's an antweight before ballasts?? what? ironforge is weird
Ironforge has its own weight system where I think 500 KG is a HW or something. It was because the bots couldn't throw other bots around and 123 couldn't make the motors any faster without the, havoking.
The first Four ballast in a bot do not count, I think it depends on weight class tho. Idk.
Toast, Ironforge is a total modification made by 123savethewhales. Ironforge is essentially balanced DSL. This is the download thread, re-posted by Craig since 123 deleted the original page. Try it out and see how you like it. Maybe you'll end up making an Ironforge showcase. I must warn you, though, that the wiring for drive is backwards compared to what Stock or DSL2 is. Shield, all bots get the first four ballasts free regardless of weight class. Ironforge weight classes are about half of what the regular Stock/DSL weight classes are. The third splash displayed when you start the game lists the Ironforge weight classes and weight limits. These weight limits are listed on the RA2Wiki page for Ironforge, thus marginally raising the wiki's credibility. [/ra2wikijoke]
