when he says control, does he mean no control board needed???

Naryar gets the word : it is just a "stacking effect" and as so, no need of control board to do this ( but you will need one once you'll want to drive your bot).

axle loading? not much new there.

the particularity here is that you don't need to put control on the motor, just move the pink bat on the wheels and it is ok.

i don't know if this is known, i've seen it on a RFS Bot ("radio" from Stereo team), perhaps i'm on an old glitch revival :

Modifications / NAR AI pack releases !
« on: July 16, 2009, 06:43:33 AM »
i've not tested all the bot yet, but here is my opinion :
- This pack is very challenging, something like Starcore for DSL. Nice!
- there are smart usage of skirt to protect motors
- Some bots are said to be invertible but are not (so they do not use their Srimech if Invertible == true) : Broke, SHW Tough Dog, Velociraptor
- Seppuku crashes my game, i did not discover why yet.
- Cataclysm uses FBS1 AI, there is a FBS2 AI which should be better (ask Madiaba).
- Flipjack LW bot is not convincing, may be rethink ?
-added 741 gets nose direction problem

Thanks again for sharing your work.

General Support / AI Pack Help
« on: July 15, 2009, 03:14:13 AM »
first of all, do not merge DSL and STOCK aI.
Second point : do not use AI that import 'custom components'.

common approach :
1-create a 'bindings.py' that merge the Bindings.py of all these packs (only the list.append...).
2-copy your 'teamsXX' folder under AI in a way that their number (XX) is always incremented by one : team0, team1, ... teamN, teamN+1, etc
3-create a file AI/Teams.txt that merge the different teams.txt. In this file, rename the 'index' to be sequential :index0, index1, ... index N, index N+1, ...
4-correct any bug (see AI chart -in the AI thread- for most common error)

Uncommon approach :
1- in a temporary folder (say D:/temp), unzipped your first AI (it creates D:/temp/AI).
2- in the same folder unzip teamMixer.rar (it creates D:/temp/_AI_tools)
3- run _Ai_tools/initTeamMixer.exe -> it creates a file name 'descTeam.txt' in each of your AI/TeamXX folder (Verify that each of your D:/temp/AI/TeamXX has this not empty file descTeam.txt with 4 lines)
4-copy D:/temp/AI under your RA2 folder (as usual)
5-delete D:/temp/AI
6-unzip another AI under D:/Temp (create another D:/temp/AI)
7-run _Ai_tools/initTeamMixer.exe
8-copy your D:/AI/teamXX under your RA2/AI folder renaming the teamXX index to be sequential (much like the common approach step 2)
9-int the RA2/AI folder merge the bindings.py (only the list.append. for the 'not first' files ..) (much like the common approach step 1)
10-repeat the step 5-9 for each of your AI pack
*** at the end of this step you should have under your RA2/AI folder
-a file bindings.py that merge all the AI bindgings
-the folders TeamXX with XX an increment starting from 0 step 1.
-in each folder a file named DescTeam.txt (to verify) that contains 4 lines (name of the team, bitmap, etc).

11 -copy your D:/temp/_Ai_tools folder under your RA2/ folder.
12 - in your RA2/folder/_Ai_Tools/teams.ini write the max team index you have
13- run RA2/folder/_Ai_Tools/reBind.bat -> it will create your AI/teams.txt

*** each time you want to add a new AI pack, repeat step 5-10 and step 12

*** each time you create your own team, just append it under RA2/AI, create the corresponding file descTeam.txt and go step 12.

*** if you want to change the order of your team (mix them) and have a correct teams.txt you can run RA2/folder/_Ai_Tools/TeamMixer.bat (see my Stock Showcase for sample use).

semi-Uncommon approach :
go the 'common approach'. Once it works, that your are happy and all that stuff,
1/ make a copy of your RA2/AI folder.
2/unzip TeamMixer.rar in your RA2 Folder (it creates RA2/_AI_Tools)
3/run RA2/_AI_tools/initiTeamMixer.exe (it should create a file DescTeam.txt in each of your RA2/AI/TeamXX folder). -> verify that each of your teamXX folder get a non empty file.
4/ update your RA2/_AI_Tools/team.ini file with the number of teams you have.
** now you can use the Mixing tool (teamMixer.bat) to mix your teamXX and create the according teams.txt

Stock Showcases / PhF bots
« on: July 14, 2009, 02:36:38 PM »
So i continue slowly my RAGE2 adventure,

here are the bots that finaly let me go thru the stage 2.

they are 3 LW and 2 HW (one is currently on BBEAN).
"Sweet Sir Walter" and "Julia Try" are titles of songs from Henri Purcell, a 'so british' composer.

To make RAGE2 more fun, after the stage 1, i did selected the opponent's teams randomly from a set from Gigafrost, Mad, starecore and other teams. I change them each season, so RAGE2 is never boring.

I will try MW for the stage 3.

who should have bet on "Insult to injury" ? So long, it have done unpredicable good result and it gives the damn to one of the most terrific builder over there. Only luck ? i don't know, there something about this bot.

and i share Naryar's disappointment... Well this is life... Anyway Nar, you win the Best Post of this thread award.

About Wham, it did start so well and so quick for your bot... Click get something evil, when looking at his summaries you think you have win (or not)... never know the matches result until you see them, and in the same time these summarises are so accurate ..that's good.

Tutorials and Tips / AI-ing (.py files, coding, R+D, and help)
« on: July 09, 2009, 04:11:48 AM »
Right,

a good "PillarPlus" mounts its weapon on motor.
while ennemy in 'range', it spins its motor.
To make more damage, when ennemy is in 'range2' -which must be shorter not to get immobilized- it turns on itself, emphazing so the spin of the motor with it self-spinning (much like a whipper).

Description: - Sits-and-spins in just one direction once opponent is in specified range, and doesn't stop unless immobile counter begins. For sit-and-spinners that only spin one direction.
Define 2 ranges :
self.spin_range = 50 -default value- : use to activate the Spin button (parameter “range”)
self.turn_range = 3 -default value-: if enemy < turn_range and not immobile: turn. (parameter “range2”)
ir argument “right” == 1 -> turn right, otherwise will turn left.
Bindings  Info/Example(s):
Code: [Select]
   list.append(("Haymaker","PillarPlus",{'nose':math.pi,'invertible':True,'range2':12,'radius':2,'topspeed':100,'throttle':130,'turn':20,'turnspeed':2,'weapons':(11,12)}))
    list.append(("Iron Spaghetti","PillarPlus",{'nose':math.pi*2,'range':99,'range2':6,'radius':1,'topspeed':100,'throttle':130,'turn':2,'turnspeed':0.1,'weapons':(21,25,26,27,33,34,35,36)}))

We're going to make all of the AI.py available as an appendage to the Tutorial....

version 2.3 of the archive comes with almost all of the AI.py (but Popup that i did not have, anyway, popup brings nothing more than a standard 'omni' as noticed in a post above).

it's a pity that many link are not archived : I like to see that old fashion bots with their big chassis but that still have something more realistic than our DSL bots. they did really look like sore bots we should have found in real life.

Contests / Vote for BOTM July 2009
« on: June 29, 2009, 08:53:35 AM »
i vote #7

sure, this is not the more terrific bot of this serie, some are very well build (and got the most wonderful splash btw), but i found Reaver as one of the most uncommon with it up wheel, its iron spike attachement way and side flipper.

if i was allowed 2 votes, the second one should go for #3
