Is the first round rival match an elimination match or is it just a show match for fun?
Elimination. The 8 winners go on to do a regular single elimination tournament. So you'll have to beat your rival if you want to go any further.

Alright, I think I've updated the OP with everything that's happened since the tournament got moved. Lemme know if I made a mistake. bbut geice-san we're destined to fight each other
Are you signing up? Sorry, I couldn't tell. Anyway, please continue entering and forming rivalries. Don't send any bot types just yet; I'd like to get the rivalries all sorted out before moving into the bot types part. Current deadline for entering is March 23rd, will be extended as proves necessary.

Alright, it's been over a day and no one's complained about the rules; time to get this thing ready for entries! I'll contact yugitom shortly.

Seems like most (all?) of the components are HDed versions of the current Stock ones.
...what if you could import RA2 bots into this?

Alright, we hit 8 votes! Not quite ready to move to signups yet though, gotta do a bit of housekeeping first. Also, since I really would like to get a full or almost full bracket, I was planning to hold out for a bit anyway. I noticed I didn't have any havok rules in the OP. Has been updated. I also added a multibot rule. As far as banned robot types go, I'm just gonna steal this rule from Pot Luck 2: I reserve the right to refuse any given robot type. Gyro Drills, Crawlers, SnS and Trinity bots are banned. That's also on the OP now. If you have any problems with the new rules, or just the tournament in general, speak soon or forever hold your pizza.

what are you planning on doing if someone doesn't send a bot?
Another good point! How about something like the Backup Brigade in Pot Luck 2? Of course, hopefully everyone will send one, but that might be too much to ask for. defining "main weapon system", so I'll define it as "the one that has the most weight, including extenders and baseplate anchors and all that". If that sounds reasonable, I'll add it to the OP.
So a 51/49 split is cool?
If someone goes to the effort to make their hybrid that refined, then sure, I guess.

Bot from me vs Badger: I built this thing specifically to counter U-shaped popups since I hate them. The spikes are on like that so I can hit the chassis, rather than the air in the center. Also, I spent like, two hours trying to hone the wedges.

That turnaround at the end of the second match though...
Anyway, GG dude. It was well earned.

also the first guy who is told what bot to build will basically come out on top cause then he'll tell his rival to build a bot type that's weak against his
Good point. I'll add something about having to PM me bot assignments to the OP. I like this. Sign me up!
Glad you're interested! I won't make any signups or rivalries official until the tournament moves to signups, though. What're the rules on hybrids?
Good question! How about this: hybrids are OK as long as the main weapon system is of the assigned type. This, of course, runs into problems with defining "main weapon system", so I'll define it as "the one that has the most weight, including extenders and baseplate anchors and all that". If that sounds reasonable, I'll add it to the OP. Also, I was thinking maybe I should ban some of the really terrible bot types, like Gyro Drill or whatever. Thoughts?

I'd rather not see people cal dibs on entire teams,
Okay, that's fair. I have some ideas for the Steelyard Dogs, particularly the extra bots, but no telling how soon I'll be able to build them. If someone else beats me to it, fair enough.

Glad to see this is getting some discussion! I think the whole idea is that you join the tournament sort of like in pairs. If you have a grudge with someone on GTM, or just someone you want to prove yourself to, you may want to talk to them about signing up for this tournament.
Well put, thanks. That said, it's no problem if you'd rather just sign up and see who else enters. I like the idea. I won't enter because DSL, but this could be interesting.
Game version and weightclass aren't set in stone yet. I just picked HW to allow for the most creativity with constrained designs, and I picked DSL since there's two Stock tournaments in signups right now, and an Ironforge one in discussion.

This was going to be my 800th post, but I overshot. Instead, it's my 800th + 42 post, which is also pretty good, I guess. The best new tournament host 2015 is at it again with another terrible gimmick tournament! BORING RULES:-DSL 2.2, standard building style, HW -No cheatbot parts, custom parts, etc. -Multibots are not allowed -No BFE, AAM, EXP, or whatever other crazy acronym you guys use -Arena will be the Ring Arena, 3 minute matches -Single elimination, best of 3 matches -16 (hopefully) spots -I will not enter. -Havok rule: In the event of a major havok occurring during a match, I will rerecord the match. If you feel like your bot was unfairly influenced by a havok that I did not consider restart-worthy, say something and I'll see about redoing the match. THE GIMMICK:-Entrants will signup without actually entering any robots yet (kinda like Pot Luck) -All entrants will select a rival (the rival must also be in the tournament, obviously) -Rivalry must be mutual; If I asked ACAMS to be my rival and he said no, I'd have to pick someone else. -Similarly, if I pick ACAMS to be my rival and he said yes, then he would not also get to pick a second rival. -If there are an odd number of entrants by the time the deadline rolls around, whoever entered last will not be able to participate, unfortunately. -Once the entering phase is completed, each entrant PMs me a bot type (must be only one type; no hybrids). Their rival has to build a bot of this type. I will post the assignments once they all have been made. -I reserve the right to refuse any given robot type. Gyro Drills, Crawlers, SnS and Trinity bots are banned. -All entrants will build their bots and submit them and all that jazz. -Hybrids are okay so long as the main weapon system is the assigned type. For this tournament, "main weapon system" is defined as "the one with the most weight, including extenders, baseplate anchors, motors, etc." The weight total does not include batteries, however. -The first round of the tournament will be rival vs rival matches. After that, it'll be a standard single elimination tournament. ENTRANTS:1. TheRedBlur2. Squirrel_Monkey3. Sircreepalot24. Geice5. RedAce6. DeadGenocide7. 0909018. Gauche Suede9. kaiser11218310. Glenn had lost no weapons, but he had lost most of his stabilizer, so I was worried about his ability to drive correctly in the final. Sure enough, he went and got wedged into the arena spikes somehow. I thought I had lost it right there, but somehow he got saved at the last second by Eclipse and went on to win it all. Thanks for the save!
Martbell tried his best, but he went in with only half his weapons. Plus, he got the rest of his weapons knocked off pretty soon into the match. I thought Rjisistaffel would take it, being seemingly unable to get hit, but losing that wheel did it in. Also I thought it was funny how tiny Martbell's chassis was next to the other bots, particulary HHH.
The Killer Dynamo has terrible battery life, and I thought that would end up killing it in the final. Luckily, KD was the last bot to have a controllable weapon (Aasvogel had the hammer but it's not like it could actually control it at that point). Even though KD got really slowed down by the end, looks like it was enough to knock out his deweaponed and destabilized opponents.
Wowie, 2/3 is way better than I expected going into this. Heck, I was thrilled just getting all three Dancin' Brothers into their respective final rounds. Thanks for sticking with the tournament, Lightning! I thought it was fun, though maybe the timing and stuff might need a bit of tweaking for lower weight bots.

For your first tournament, the thread looks nice and clean. You may want a bit more clarification of whether there is a limit to updates on robots. Like, am I allowed to only make minor changes, major changes or send in a whole new robot?
I'll clarify in the main post, thanks. Can I vote in my own poll?
Yeah, you're gonna enter, right? Plus, there's no way to tell who actually made each vote. By the way, looks good and I will enter. I notice you didn't specify how many people could enter, though. Or can I just not read?
