I'm cool with somebody else picking up the Throwback rules if I decide to do Ironbot instead.
But, a few suggestions: Unless you were lurking a long time Ben, you don't know what bot building was like back in the classic era of the official forums and AceUplink and Jimxorb and Rejected and clutch1 and online non-AI tournaments. No one used any sort of hidden components back then, including AI parts like Emergency wedges. No one used small wedges either except as flippers. It wasn't like these days where every bot that's not a HS (and some that are) has random small wedges on burst motors that aren't even wired to fire.
Anyway, my point is that if you're aiming for a "classic" style of building, you should use more of the Throwback rules I made, not just a couple of them. But if you want to do your own unique tournament, then you should add some of your own unique rules, not just water down the Throwback rules. Like the "no popups or jugglers" rule, that adds a unique twist. Not like LW popups or jugglers are super common anyway, but still.

this is ridiculous am I the only one who bought ra2 for $30?
I got it for $20 if I remember right. I saw an advertisement for it at some robot combat event I went to (don't remember if it was Mechwars or RFL Triangle Series), looked it up when I got home, found out it was already out, and went out and bought it at Best Buy. This was maybe a year or so after it was first released. I remember watching the little preview video on the main site and being utterly in awe of how realistic the physics looked. After playing RA1 for a while you can't imagine how mind-blowing it is to see bots getting flipped and tossed around.

At first I thought it was a full body flipper, until I saw the razors hiding under the ram plate.
It looks cool but it's gonna get torn apart by the first HS it encounters. Slow drive + narrow profile + exposed side extenders = HS food.
You might want to try doing a setup more like my Noble Sacrifice except not upside-down.
And, if possible, a Supervolt. Nifty-powered popups (even with only a Snapper 2) start stalling and become useless about halfway through the match in my experience. Maybe ditch the ram plate? It's not doing too much good where it is.

I have, uhhhh, a piece of Millipede's cage spinner signed by Bill Arden, who I'd be surprised if anyone has heard of (he was well known at Mechwars though and also entered Battlebots once with Centipede). And a piece of a caster wheel from a shopping cart that Tortoise tore apart in a demonstration.
That's cool that Conraaa was in RW... another possible bot to put in DSL3.

Chairswing then. Any opinions on the robot at all?
I know Wheel Bug is afraid of it. Pretty creative way to sneak a flail shell spinner into ORAD though.

...Reduviidae ?
Indeed. It's Arilus cristatus if you want to be specific. Cool and most certainly UNIQUE design, though I bet you can get more efficiency out of this.
I also have the feeling the femurs are a bit too short, and the wheels should be outside.
More like the tibiae are too short, and the tarsi are nonexistent. The femur length is about right. I had to put the wheels on the inside because they didn't touch the ground otherwise. But, with a 1200 kg weight limit, sacrifices have to be made. I originally wanted to put spike strips on axles at the ends of the legs for tarsi, and the wings were made out of a bunch of aluminum and polycarbonate extenders fitted together (to make a more accurate shape and create the appearance of veins) but that was way too heavy.

Geez people, I mean yeah GRW's building has not improved much over the time he's been here, but... you think you're rubbing it in enough?
Just say how to improve the bots, no need to go right out and say "you suck, go lurk". Say something positive too if he's doing something right.
Fluttershy's Stare looks basically good as a concept but it NEEDS more powerful drive. That's the main thing to do. After that you can focus on optimizing chassis space and batteries and using better weapons (battle axe is not the best choice).
Power Bomber... ermm... honestly needs a total rebuild to be good, but for now just take things one step at a time. See if you can get a heavy plow or two as front armor. That alone will make it 10x as effective.

JD did a pretty good job of imitating a JoeBlo splash this BOTM... I really thought Joe made that.
I wouldnt call that imitating.. JD has some good candy skills of his own.. just doesn't enter very much so people haven't picked up on it to much..
He name doesnt always come to mind when trying to figure out splashes.. yet mine does despite not entering the last 2-3 BOTM's :P
It's not just the quality of the candy, it's also the text layout, the color scheme, and the big closeup shot of the bot in the middle, stuff like that. It just looks like one of your splashes. The only thing that threw me off was the fact that it's a Robot Wars replica, which you've never been known to do.

Take a look at Scrap's flail HS he made recently Stock flails? Stock flails.

See how he put double razors on each axle? Do something like that and you can have the same amount of weapons but half the axle mounts (which comes to a total of 88 kgs saved).Scrap did that with the eFFe glitch, by the way.Your bot does look good, it's only a little inefficient with the number of axles.

DSA, 2 pinks, the rest is visible. Brown Wreckluse 2's main weakness was that the wheels could be easily hit if the bot turned just a bit too much to one side. So I shaved 1.8 kgs off the chassis, which let me upgrade the two pointy tips on the ends to maces, which protect the wheels much better and deal more return damage when they get hit. It can now consistently beat ECO Jr. and Volatile Partisan, which it lost to in BBEANS3, as well as other more modern spinners. It's also surprisingly effective at de-weaponing iron spike rammers (it outweaponed the SC4 Drone and only lost the two middle axes). Huh? Why is the middle extender red? Oh, no reason. I just felt like adding a little splash of color.

That last one looks like it should be in the logo for some tournament.
Just put some text over it saying "WEDGE WAR" or something similar.

I noticed that a lot of the tournaments that made it through were new ones. Hardly any old tournaments made it through. Not just this one, but Box of Nightmares didn't get enough votes either which made me disappoint. Do people lose interest that quickly? Or do they fear the host has lost interest after so long waiting for the poll?

This is going to end up being a wedge war IMO. Even more so than other tournaments. Honestly I would rather have you resurrect Tourney of Awesomeness...

I'd be cool with a Stock MW tourney like BBEANS 1.
Same here, actually.
QFT But I believe click said this is just a nice lickle summer tourney, so i'm k with that, and a stock MW BBEANS. Still, haven't voted, coz they both seem like quite good ideas.
Well prepare to be cool then... after Ironbot/Throwback I will do BBEANS7, which I've decided will be stock LW/MW/HW. Three separate 32-bot brackets and competitors are allowed to pick up to two of them to enter. Kind of like Battlebots with multiple weight divisions. Or I could do three 64-bot brackets with single elimination to cut down on the number of videos, since having multiple bots in other weight classes somewhat eliminates the need for a second chance in a loser's bracket. </speculation> In related news it looks like Ironbot and Throwback are both popular. If there was a clear majority for one of them I would do that... but I think it will come down to my own personal preference. I'll have to run a quick Ironbot test run and see how much work it is and whether the fights get too boring late in the tournament or not.

This is an unusual tournament.
Tournament Structure:
There are no brackets for the first two rounds:
Round One
There will be 4 groups (where by all the entries will be randomly distributed evenly throughout, with four robots in each group). In each group, these bots will be randomly given a number that relates to their order of the cycle.
First, the first and second bot in the cycle will fight in a match (single round). Second, the next bot in the cycle replaces the loser, and another match ensues. This continues in each group until a bot wins 3 times consecutively, whereby this bot qualifies for round two and is taken out of the cycle. In this case, the loser is still replaced with the next bot in the cycle, but the winner is replaced too.
This continues until two of the bots have qualified, or after one less of the number of bots left in the cycle matches of no bot qualifying, the bot(s) with the highest wins in total will qualify. (If there are two or more bots with the same number and only one space remaining , a match between them will ensue and the winner gets the slot.)
Round Two
Same as round one, but the robots are re-assigned a group randomly and evenly (with four bots in each group); only two entries of each group will go through to the final.
Finals
Winner of two matches is the champion. Matches are 3 of 5.
Restrictions:
Stock LW No multibots No BFE, AAM. All glitches allowed. All bots entered must have at least one red extender of any size in/on/attached/etc Small havoks are ignored, large havoks (ones that fling your bot OOTA or make your bot trapped into the floor/walls etc.) will deem a restart. If another large havok happens, after this it is ignored, i.e. only one havok restart per match.
Arena:
RAT#2 Tournament Arena with hazards ON TRAP. (These Rules Are Permanent.)

And I have no idea how it can get under an opponent. o_O
The beak is so long and narrow that it can slip into tiny gaps and lift up the opponent. So it can get under stuff like Blade Wave with a gap in the wedge, but not something like Flesh Feast with a wedge covering the entire front. Getting under HS and SnS is tricky; it pretty much relies on poking the beak under the shell and destabilizing it and then rushing under. It won't beat Genius Loci every time. Edit: I put it on the bot exchange for yoda, and anyone else who wants to try it.

Yeah, so... I decided not to make a SHW Toilet of Doom for ORAD. I don't know why. For some reason I just felt like making this instead: It's an idea I've had floating around in my head for a while and this tournament was a perfect opportunity. I mean just look at that picture of a real wheel bug. It's got a freaking SAW BLADE on its thorax. It's just begging to have a bot modeled after it, and who cares if the "saw blade" doesn't actually spin on the real bug. It looks like it should. Now about the bot. Basic stats: It has 1mm Ti armor, a Perm 132 powering a disc with 16 light teeth, 3 PC625 batteries, two BSG's powering the beak and two BSG's for the wings, and 6 Magmotor drive. Now as you can probably tell, this is first and foremost an artbot. Combat effectiveness took a backseat to making it look good, and I honestly expected it to be pretty near worthless in combat. However, it's much better than I expected. Still not really good, but it can actually beat a few SHW's in NAR AI, notably Blade Wave and Genius Loci. (I don't have a battleshot of Blade Wave because it crashed when I took off its pistons. ) If it can get under the opponent, that disc does serious damage, and if it doesn't, then I expect there will be a lot of broken legs littering the arena. (Hey, it's an insect, what do you expect?) In either case it should make for entertaining battles.

You could also attempt to imitate someone else's splash style. I still have to get a working prototype running.
JD did a pretty good job of imitating a JoeBlo splash this BOTM... I really thought Joe made that.

Allright, It's time for signups... The rules are:
1. 16 bots allowed, last 4 entrants will go into a wildcard rumble. 2. DSL SuperHeavyweight in the combat zone arena with hazards off 3. No cheatbot or replica parts 4. No custom components 5. All building done in botlab, so no BFE, AAM, or any of that cheaty stuff, skinning is allowed (nearly required) 6. multibots are allowed, both bots must add up to no more that 1200 kg 7. Multibots must both be beaten to count as a win. 8. 'loose' realistic rule will apply. This is standard realism, with slight allowances of breaking realism for looks only. 9. Don't bother with Narmour, it won't work. 10. matches will be 3 minutes, 1 on 1, best 2 out of 3, with a losers bracket 11. Standard Havok restart rules. You get 1 free, Cause a second one and your bot is DQ'd for that round. 12. I can and will AI for those who can't, but AI'ing your own bot is the preferred method. If I AI it and it's not what you wanted, the imperfection is yours. No Whining. 13. custom .py's allowed, not including the cheaty type (healing damage, constant damage, etc. etc.) 14. You must make a decent effort to make your bot look like it was built out of something else. 15. It doesn't have to be perfect, as long as we can get the idea of what it is supposed to be. 16. Beyond that, most bot types allowed, save for trinity flyers, nasty pickles, or bumblers. 17. In this tourney at least, the old adage of "size doesn't matter" happens to be true. Who cares if the can of dew is as big as the lawnmower? 18. The most important rule, this is for fun...
These are the rules, they cannot change. (Can we make an acronym out of that? ...TATRTCC. No, probably not.)
