General Support / Messing around with the .py...
« on: September 21, 2012, 06:57:51 AM »
Is it possible to change the Forward and LeftRight analogue controls into buttons, and have them split up (e.g "Forwards", "Back", "Left" and "Right")?

I've had a mess around in the .py, but due to my limited knowledge on adding new stuff (e.g Triggers and new smartzones, and new controls in general), crashes everytime. This includes an attempt to define the throttle and turning in the .py itself using the init text as a base.

Alternatively, are there any good python guides floating around that anyone can point me to?

I mean, we already have NAR AI as a community pack.  Please send teams there instead.  I do not want 123AI to be a NAR AI alternative.

That reminds me to sort out a couple of teams for NAR...

Anyhoo, this.

p3, Standard NPCs, 8 ants. Thinking of a rebuild with just 2WD NPCF + technos.

Reminds me a lot of Ouncey's bot in NAR AI (can't remember what it's called D:).

Very nice.

Discussion / Re: What do you mod? (2012)
« on: September 15, 2012, 05:57:11 AM »
How much experience do you have in a specific category?

Bindings the most, messing around to perfect certain bots lines without playing around with the .pys', though I'm going to start on that fairly soon. Some experience in BFE, limited in the skinning department since I can never get anything to work right (lols), even tried making a new component once, and failed :P

-What do you want to learn more about?
.py's in general, want to mess around with them, create custom AI's, see if I can make some tweaks here and there to existing ones and to make some bot types work- possibly even to a competitive level, if possible. And I want to make an arena or two. That would be cool.

-What do you like modding in?
AI lines. I just mess around with them until I've got a bot that works to its maximum potential under the .py I happen to be using.

-What mod types are you most interested in getting? (one of the categories in the poll)
.py's, getting skinning to actually work, and proper full on BOT editing from scratch, rather than messing with just one or two components, name or chassis height.

What is your favorite mod? (more specific than just DSL unless talking about the GIB work)
First Blood and Space arena.

Some of the Stuff Gazea has helped me put together in recent times is really awesome.. I just wish I havent been letting him down with my lack of time.. guys got some awesome hidden talent ;)

Lol, all this because I started off with an idea "Why don't I try making a VS with disc stabilisers?" that turned into this :P

Looks nice, but how well do the lifters get under stuff? I've never had much luck with flipper segments alone, and I usually end up using small wedges on the tips of custom flippers.

Absolutely terribly. But if it does find its way under, the recipient will need a parachute :D

Back to DSL standard...

P3, 4 ants, NPC standard...the rest you can see.

Spiders. I am utterly scared of spiders. Not Urjak though. XD

Arachnophobia is one of the few fears which I completely don't understand :s

At least 50% of spiders out on the pull, or simply moving house, are killed by misguided people. It makes me sad.

As for building a smaller robot, you guys have been shooting down every single one of my ideas so far. So let me ask this... Does every single robot that you see have to be the best, most destructive thing you've ever seen? I'm happy that I got the !@#$ thing to move at a decent speed to begin with using the tools I have on hand. This isn't RA2, and I don't have an unlimited budget. If I did I wouldn't be building the thing out of a wheelchair do begin with. :realmad(

Surely building a HW straight off with no prior experience is like diving in the middle of the ocean with no prior experience of swimming?

These guys have experience with building, and they're actively trying to save you time and money. Listen to them, man....

Wheels Are Tasty klone looks pretty good, apart from the weapons cutting through the motors. Nice to see you getting a Perm on there, but the fragility worried me a touch. How does it hold up in battle?

Its been entered into a NAR AI tourney, so the perm's hp is no problem :D And the weapon just misses the motors. :P

Anyhoo, here's my alternative go to IRL MW if Hadron 2 gets dull...

2 Judge bursts, NPC's, 7 ants, steel 1. There were going to be decals, but for some ridiculous reason I can never do anything to change aesthetics on this damn game right xD
