Whuh... how does that beat Vox???
I can see it beating other wedges, rammers, and VS's if the wedges are good, but the sides look too exposed to be good against HS's if you ask me. Interesting idea, anyway. 1023
Stock Showcases / Re: What? Teamxtreemers Stock Showcase?« on: May 01, 2011, 04:47:40 PM »
Those wedges are pretty useless. Would be better with iron spikes or something as side stabilizers.
Bear claws would probably be good weapons on a VS though. *is inspired to make a bear claw VS* 1024

Well actually I'm working on rebalancing stuff at the moment so there's not a lot to show.
Should have a new saw blade to show off pretty soon though, thanks to Trovaner. ![]() 1025

How is everyone thinking of all sorts of awesome/insane/great ideas?
All I can think of is "make a bot with the best wedge possible". I can't help but think this will be a wedge war. ![]() What happens if the time runs out? No time limit? In any case I don't think matches will last that long on the Clawtop. 1027
Discussion / Re: Ironbot test run« on: May 01, 2011, 03:56:02 PM »
OK let's get this thing done and move on to the real thing.
Round 5, 6, 7, 8, and the final are all up! And with the close of the test tournament, a few more rules revisions: - Bots without active weapons are required to use the "Charge" or "Ram" tactic (in other words, rammer AI). This includes bots that had active weapons but lost them. This is to speed up the fights once bots get heavily damaged, so we don't get tug-of-war fights where nothing happens. - The maximum number of casters allowed is reduced to 8. - All bots must have damaging weapons. - Immobility warnings are only disabled in the Fight to the Death for the first 2 minutes; after that bots can be immobilized. Finally, for the real Ironbot tournament, I will use a custom arena I'm planning on making that will be full of hazards. This should increase the amount of damage being dealt even if bots lose all their weapons like RPB. Once the arena is done I'll post the official rules thread. ![]() 1028
Discussion / Re: Freeziez's Bot-Fighting Request Service« on: May 01, 2011, 03:27:41 PM »
Wait... I appreciate what you're trying to do here... but... why would we request you to film these fights, instead of doing them ourselves?
I mean, if you want to see two AI bots fight it's not hard to just fire up RA2 and do it, unless you don't have the necessary AI packs. Maybe you could do unofficial tournament grudge matches though. Collect tournament AI packs and take grudge requests. 1029

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Protip: Use the 1,000,000 kg Smartzone ballasts. Or use the large Rocket Jets and propel the bot down into the platform right away. Or both. 1031

Stock Showcases / Re: The Stock Showcase of The Ounce« on: April 30, 2011, 12:13:33 AM »
Haha, I had the same idea with the rammer for DoD, but figured it would be useless against popups so I entered a more traditional rammer instead.
If you angled the razors upward a bit, it might be more effective. Also, you might consider sacrificing 2 razors for an extender guard. 1033
Stock Showcases / Re: NFX.showcase/stock« on: April 29, 2011, 11:48:34 PM »
2 blacks? You know you only need 2 pinks or 1 Nifty for that right?
Let's see... you have 60 kgs of battery now, minus 16 for 1 Nifty/2 pinks equals 44 kgs of extra weight, plus 4 for the extra weight you already have makes 48, which means... SIX MORE RAZORS, ALMOST 7 IF YOU SHAVED 1KG OFF THE CHASSIS. YOU COULD GET 63 RAZORS. ![]() Wait... is there a stabilizer tail in the back? Because that bot won't be controllable if there isn't. 1034
Stock Showcases / Re: SM's Stock Showcase« on: April 29, 2011, 11:39:35 PM »
One wheel is certainly enough with two spinners. The two spinners can counter-rotate so there is no twist applied to the chassis. It would actually be easier to move than with one spinner.
In fact, it might even work to use a Redbird for drive. That would get it down to a MW at least. You'll probably want to swap the position of the drive and one of the weapon motors though, so the wheel doesn't stick out so far. 1035
Stock Showcases / Re: A Fractured Stock Showcase« on: April 29, 2011, 11:31:06 PM »
The weapon, drive, battery and wedge are all good. The only problem I can see with that bot is the shape... with such a narrow front, it will be easily knocked to the side and the sides of the chassis will easily get hit. If you use a Snapper II instead of a Snapper 2 for the wedge, you might get enough weight to make a wider chassis. (The chassis will still be vulnerable, but it's better for the front to get hit than the sides, plus a bigger chassis has more HP.)
Also, with careful placement it should be possible to attach the Redbirds directly to the baseplate anchors and eliminate those extenders. 1036
General Support / Re: Lol another AI post« on: April 29, 2011, 10:30:31 PM »
It's hard to tell because the picture is small, but it looks like the 'i' in "LeftRight" is capitalized, like you held down Shift too long. That would certainly cause the problem you are describing.
![]() Glad to see you fixed it, but just for future reference. 1037

Omni does have the reload code so it will work.
A 'reload' of somewhere between 16 and 24 (2-3 seconds) would probably be adequate but I'm just guessing here. And why am I the only one commenting??? 1040
Tournament Archives / Re: Dominator of Dragons (Splash, "Brackets", Videos)« on: April 29, 2011, 09:43:38 PM »
Oh I know how effective it is... it's just that Wacky Bob's bot has a deceptively amateur look to it (big orange chassis, exposed motors, not invertible), compared to a lot of the "pro" bots in this. It's easy to forget that it's actually nearly as good as Childs Play and underestimate it just because of the way it looks.
I won't be making that mistake again, however. |
