Stock Showcases / Re: Sparkeys showcase

Well, let's call it a Havok then. Because the game uses the Havok physics engine, it doesn't have to be confined to that single definition.

Well, it USED to have a proper definition, but over time you and others weakened it.

It turned from an in battle match ruining glitch to the name of any glitch not useful.

You have it backwards. All physics glitches are Havoks. We only name them when they become useful, eg: the rupt glitch.

Also, how do you know what the definition "used" to be? Sage and I (the "you and others" you refer to, I presume) "used" to be on the old forums, when you "used" to be not around. I don't see how you believe that you have any greater knowledge than us on "ye olde days" when we were there...

Just a thought.

I wrote this last night, but my internet died before I could post it. It still applies now though.

And it was said somewhere earlier that mini ray was something of a copy of one of your bots Robo shark, I do apologize I was not trying to copy any of your designs, but you are pretty much the king of HS so i suppose its impossible

Most of the builders here really don't mind if you copy designs, just give credit where credit is due (ie: if you deliberately copied off of someone, just say who). In fact, I'd say that I encourage copying off of better builders. If someone can pull the designs off, it's quite a testament to their skill.

I wish that I was the king of HS though. Scrap Daddy, Sage, and InfiniteInertia are all better HS builders than myself. Mini-Ray's original design is pretty standard as far as DSL LW HS go however, so you didn't really need to apologize there. I appreciate it though. It's good form - and it gets you serious-ass brownie points with the rest of the community.

I agree. Also, OMFG IS THAT A POLAR BEAR WITH CHAINSAW ARMS?? :O

I find lightweights easy to build due to their relative simplicity, it is when i try building middleweight or heavy weight bots i get confused and end up screwing up and making something that doesnt deserve to exist. Any tips? Like what should i focus on with a heavy weight, wedges weapons armor? how much weight should go to each part?

And can someone please explain popup to me, I just don't understand them.

For your first question, It really depends on what you're building. For HS, you'll need the majority of your weight going to your weapons system, for Rammers: your drive train, and for Gut-Rippers (popups, jugglers, etc.) it's more of a happy medium between drive, weapons, armour, and wedges.

On popups: their main purpose is to drive under an opponent and attack their vulnerable undersides. Generally, they are not made for sustained matches, as they either have very little armour and tons of weapons (see: R4), or tons of armour and very few weapons (see: Bounty Hunter). For this strategy to work though, popups must be able to get under their opponents. For this you need excellent wedges and fast drive (It's been proven that faster bots get under slower bots - all other things being equal). They jury's still out on how to make unbeatable wedges (though Naryar might tell you otherwise. Take his advice though - he does know his stuff), but you'll generally want to use weaponry with high piercing. Razor tips are a favourite for their reach and damaging capabilities, but light 2-sided DSL teeth can be used too.

Hope this helps :)

I love this thread so much :O

It's +9 celcius here. Don't ask me what that is in farenheit. I don't believe in your absurd scale based off of people and some really, really cold crap :P

Being forced to study college calculus at 16 is difficult. >.<

Boo-goddam-hoo. My AP Calc teacher was from Serbia. Try learning maths you don't understand in a language you don't understand >.>

Avalanche > LRA2

Therefore, LRA2 =/= Avalanche

It's simple math, Pwn.

Most Original: JoeBlo/Iron Outlaws - Although I didn't like them, I have to say that the 432 different setups was pretty smart.

Best Built: Scrap Daddy/Tick - A great take on an OLD DESIGN (therefore, it's NOT THE MOST ORIGINAL >:O). The wedge was a very nice addition. Honourable mention goes to Pwnator and Hyperbola 2.

Coolest: Pwnator/Hyperbola 2 - It's Rabid Pit Bull - micro sized. Honourable mention goes to Scrap Daddy.

BTSHDBBDDTBL: Starcore/Fury - It would have beaten the vast majority of the bots here, but any robot that runs into the same opponent twice and loses both times has pretty bad luck.

I got no problem with it, though I do like good grammar.
frezeal has a problem with everything, don't pay attention.

Frezal's funny. You guys should appreciate his perma-trolling more. He's only been the master of the off-topic for longer than most of us have been around for.

Since you've switched to the top-5 format, there have been enough builders improve to the point where they can be considered for top-10 now (Pwnator, Ounce, Virus Bomb, etc).

I wound up searching my computer for the .bot file and I found it in the Compatibility Files. It seems to be, however, hidden most of the time. Are there any ways to get to the folder without running a search for it?

General Support / Exporting Problem
« on: January 10, 2010, 05:49:27 PM »
Hey guys, I got a new Windows 7 PC and RA2 works pretty well on it, except that I'm having troubles exporting bots in the bot lab. After I click "export bot," it exports fine in-game and I can import it into other teams, but when I go into the "Robot Designs" folder where the .bot file is supposed to be, it's not there.

Do you guys have any idea where else it would be, and if not, how I could fix it?

Am I going crazy, or it is "snowing" at the top of pages on GTM's?
