That is actually a really good replica of Nightmare.   It also explains why the txt file for the N12 wheel is called "night_wheel.txt".  I always wondered about that one.

Fang's shiny chassis is cool too... although considerably less so once I realized it was a component and not a "chassis" in the RA2 sense.

Blargh... I've got something started but I don't think it will be finished before the deadline.  I will finish it anyways though even if it's late so you will still get to see it.

EVERYONE!  NEITHER CLICK NOR JOE WILL PROBABLY BE IN THIS!  YOU HAVE A CHANCE OF WINNING even if you don't have any custom component/BFE skills!  Just enter a cool artbot or something!

I was not expecting the loser's bracket to be arranged that way.

The bots from round 2 should be slotted in reverse order, bottom to top, so you don't get rematches happening too early in the tournament.  As it happened, there was only one early rematch (S_M vs. freeziez) but round 2 of the loser's bracket could easily have ended up being a repeat of the winner's bracket round 1.

I do all sorts of fancy stuff in the BBEANS bracket but just alternating top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top is usually good enough.

What's done is done though, I'm not requesting that you redo all the matches.  Just for future reference.  Unless you want there to be a lot of rematches.

What arena will it be in?

I still don't like the rule that you lose if you KO your opponent, but it seems the tournament could at least work as planned now that you ban suicide bots and flamethrowers.  Basically the goal will be to score the most points without scoring a KO, which will be tricky.

A What Sheck Spinner? type design would probably do well.

Idea: you could judge matches based on aggression, controlling the match, damage, etc. like in real robotics competitions, instead of using RA2's points system.  Then you could make a bot with a really weak hammer or something, and while it wouldn't score many points if any, it would count toward aggression or whatever.  While a really slow pusher with a wall of spikes would probably win on points, but lose on a human judging system.

I agree with Clickbeetles post about Golden Sun. One of the (or may THE) best GBA games of all time. Both of them. Great story, great gamplay, twists, puzzels and those cute jins who can give your character extra abilities when activated.

Too bad Dark Dawn wasn't up to the same level... still a great game by other standards, but not as good compared to the original GBA titles.

Alas, it is the inviolable Law of Sequels: Sequels that are pre-planned from the beginning are at least as good, and possibly better than the original.  Sequels that are not planned until after the original release can only be as good as the original, never better, and are often worse.

(Before you go citing exceptions at me, note the Law of Sequels only applies to intellectual properties with a continuous storyline.  Mario and Zelda games don't count as they are all independent.)

On the plus side, that means the fourth Golden Sun game should be good.  They were OBVIOUSLY planning a sequel with that "ending".

But if you're looking for good RPG's and you want to get into GS, start with the GBA games.

How many razors?

Looks dangerous.  Emergency wedges are questionable though.  And lol at random spare-weight extender armor.

It preforms well against most of NAR AI's BWs, though it has beaten all of them at least once.

most of NAR AI's BWs

BWs

That had better be a typo.

Nice build in any case.  I don't like the look of the crooked drive but, don't see any way around that.

Awesome bot.  How is it against popups though?

Also you should try lowering the top spinner to make it invertible, and see if it's still as good.

The tech demo was a kind of mini prototype RA2 they released before the finished game came out unfinished game was rushed out the door.  I never got the tech demo, so I didn't know about it, but apparently it has a special arena with that saw blade in it.

 :gawe:

Thanks to Trovaner for pulling the raw mesh out of the RA2 tech demo arena.  After a bit of resizing, reskinning, and making txt files, we now have a saw blade with real teeth.  About time, I say.  Once you see this, you'll never want to go back to that .tga saw blade with the teeth facing different directions depending on which side you look at.

I think there was an early version of RA1 that had Omnivore and Gammaraze in it, but soon after its release they released a new version that replaced them with Triclops and Gammaraze II along with other updates.  Don't ask how I know that, I just seem to remember it.

If so, then 090901 must have got RA1 right when it was first released so he got the early version.

EPIC ON-TOPIC BUMP

Radiant Historia.

If I've seemed less active in RA2 lately, that's the game to blame. :P  I thought about making a new thread for it but figured there wouldn't be a whole lot to discuss about it, so instead I'll just post here and extol its virtues recommend it.

It's a pretty traditional RPG with a few big twists... the biggest one being that you can time travel to almost any point in the game's timeline and replay events.  Ever been faced with a choice in an RPG, so you saved beforehand, picked one option, then reset and picked the other option to see what would happen?  (Don't lie, you all have.)  It's exactly like that, except you can do it legitimately in-game and you carry over all your items and experience.  And this game has a lot of choices in it so you'll be doing a lot of time traveling (backwards and forwards or side to side between parallel timelines).

The battle system is really fun and innovative too... it forces you to actually use your special techniques even against regular enemies (spamming Attack won't work except against very weak enemies) but at the same time it isn't too difficult or annoying.  The battles are a bit on the easy side so far with the right tactics (I haven't yet had anyone KO'd) but I'm hoping they get harder later in the game.

And I'm not even halfway through according to the game's event counter so I can't truly judge the story, but so far it's the best I've seen in a game.

Graphics and music are excellent too... heck, everything about this game is top notch.

So yeah... just updating you on my latest distraction.  Anyone who likes RPG's should buy this game.  Unless you have stuff you want to finish in RA2; then you might want to hold off for a bit. ;)

The AGOD is for two reasons.  One, the axis of the Snapper II's is vertical.  Bad idea.  What you're doing is roughly akin to trying to make vertical flails, though not nearly as bad.  That VS would be very bouncy even without AGOD.

Two, maces are naturally more bouncy on VS's for some reason.  Iron spikes would probably be a better choice.

It would be an awesome design if you got it to work... I mean it's basically like a vertical Little Darling.  That's scary.

There are some SHW shell spinners or sit and spinners that use it too.

ACAMS in BOTM?  That I would like to see.

And Click, I'm pretty sure I see a Fulguromorpha in that arthropod collection. Doesn't that count ?

Ah, so there is.  So there IS one Hemiptera.  Close enough for a non-entomologist. :P

Lol mega adapter + energy spike spam ahoy.

If you allow FB's pack there should definitely be a list of banned components.  Definitely energy spikes, mini magnets, and shield generators, and possibly clown head bombs and laser rifles.

Personally I would just use more "traditional" packs like Lu-Tze's and Dummy's if I was doing this.

EDIT: Singularity's up on the Bot Exchange for anyone who's interested. Just make sure you Pause before you click "Start Match", otherwise it starts at a wierd angle.

In the meantime, I've got a prototype for kill's Sumo deal.

(Image removed from quote.)

Clear The Way II, festuring 1 Black, DSA, 2 plows, 2 DDT wedges, and 4-wheel HPZ drive with rubbers for extra lowness. 395.4kg, has a tendency to havok when it turns too quickly.

kill's Sumo deal is realistic.  :trollface

It does look a lot like a splash I would make... even the font (Pink LET) is one I use a lot.  Or used to; I can't think of using it recently.

I would've downgraded the DDT to a Snapper and upgraded something.  Either the drive or make the plows flush with the floor.  A DDT hammer is kinda overkill for a LW.
