Tournament Archives / Bigger Brother.
« on: February 24, 2013, 04:24:42 PM »
In this tournament I have teams made up of 1 LW and 1 MW from various teams in the ultimate stock AI pack fight in the robo zone arena with the LW starting the match and after 30 seconds their "bigger brothers" get released from their cages.

I might do 4-8 groups depending on how it works out. Here is group 1:

Match 1 - Spin Doctors vs The Champions
Match 2 - Cauntem Fysix vs Red Zone
Match 3 - Alien Invasion vs Team Pyscolone
Match 4 - Second Place vs Twists of Fate
Semi final 1 - Winner of match 1 vs Winner of match 2
Semi final 2 - Winner of match 3 vs Winner of match 4
Final - Winner of semi final 1 vs Winner of semi final 2

Go back a few pages, it was discussed at length. When I enter my own tournaments I usually don't enter to win but I still want to see how my new designs in action, this rule makes it near impossible for me and other hosts to win anything.
because everyone is going to build their bot specifically to beat yours
and I'm going to build a bot to beat everyone else? not every bot will be the same...

I don't think a host should be competing seriously in their own tournament anyway.

In other words... Good. The host shouldn't even come close to winning their own tournament. Their bot should basically be a bye bot.

Why the heck should a hosts bot be a bye bot? are you serious? The hosts should stand just as much of a chance as everyone else! Oh sure let's get Click entering a SFTW in his own tournament because no one wants him to win...

what the heck has this forum come to, where there's a rule (according to you) against a host winning?

Site News and Feedback / Re: Can't post
« on: February 24, 2013, 02:42:48 PM »
Over the past 1-2 weeks I've had to clear my cache and cookies about 20-30 times and still get the session time out error while the clearing of cache and cookies has only allowed me to post a few times. Sometimes I can post, other times I can't and I can only usually post once before it decides to session time out on me again...which means I have to repeat the same annoying process.

Surely I'm not the only person still effected by this? I'm using google chrome, I login for 60 minutes or less, I have used the actual login page the last few times and still get the problem. This is becoming very frustrating and I see no updates on the situation anywhere.

have you tried cheat engine? just remember that it has the word CHEAT in there for a reason. not like anyone plays event mode seriously anymore anyway, so whatever.
With all the hax and cheats he is asking for I hope he isn't taking it seriously.

So the new host must show entry rule has caused myself to suggest a couple of new rules:

-The host can change/update their entry but must allow everyone else the option to change/update theirs and show the update/change in their topic before anyone else sends in their updates.
-The host is to post pictures of all entries as they receive them. (possibly in a constantly updated splash?)

I believe this clears up the update/change rule while allowing the host to be on more even grounds to everyone else.
No ruling on this yet? I still think it's unfair for hosts to show their entry.

was thinking about it along with testing some other variations, sadly this one is too unstable.

Isn't much of an all round building contest when it doesn't feature DSL. Still, seems fun, but I suck at stock and don't have the time to make 5 decent bots in it
Perhaps someone else can host that one sometime, I don't play DSL as much as stock.

What about hybrid bots...? Heavy HSes distinguished from Lite HSes...? Tribar vs. Disk VSes...? Wammers...? Robots with chained motors....? These are all very different classifications.

By "basic" I don't mean you have to build that basic type in it's "pure" form, you can make any HS, VS, FS, rammer/wammer etc. that you want.

Okay well then this is stupid if you have 5 different weight classes and can't even reuse one weapon type on a hybrid bot. Way too complex of a format and not enough bases covered. You are aiming for a variety of submissions from people, but with the way this is set up everything will look quite the same.
I think there's enough variation there, I just don't want teams to have more then 1 of the same bot type. The point of this is to see who makes the best of a variety of different bots and weights.

I doubt we will see many of the same bots because people have to select which weight they have each type, I'm still trying to figure out my team setup before I start building.

Forgot to write that up:

*Hybrids are allowed as long as you haven't used any of the hybrid's weapon setups on another bot. (This basically cuts out people using the same type of weapon for all their bots.)
*Multi-bots can use different weapon setups as long as you haven't used them on any other bot.
