Oh sh**, The DSL-S train is rolling proper now that we've got Naryar back in town!

Of all the hybrid choices in the world, why this one? :really_makes_you_think: I can't think of any situation where this hybrid is practical, let alone useful. I'd say drop the SnS and instead work on some sort of weaponed flipper - powerful flippers are too easy to make in DSL 2.2 what with the VDMA bursts, so more popup-style or weaponed flipper-style bots would be nice to see.

Think you might have a bit too much battery power there, man. Surely just the two black's and the ant would be enough? Also the width of that chassis has me thinking perhaps some optimization work could be done on it. I'll work on the concept in a few days, see if I can come up with anything major.

Bursts inside the chassis is wise, I'd say.

Overall, glad to see ya back again! Definitely showing the rust, but we'll have that fixed up in no time.

Do you want any of these to be your BOTM entry? Right now you've got Scorp II set.

The polls for A New BOTM are gonna be a day late this month because I'm off in Manchester watching some wrestling, so you lot have got an extra day to decide what your entrants are. The polls'll be up July 2nd.

Alright, gentlemen, here's how it's gonna go down from next month onward.

Same as always, I collect all the bots you guys showcase, and ask you which bot you want to submit 3 days before the end of the month. However, from here on out, you can also submit bots! So, if you have a bot you're especially proud of, send me it on the 25th of the month.  Or, if you've already showcased it and want to save me even more hassle, put "Submitted for A New BOTM" or something like that in the post when you post your bot. Doing either of these will greatly reduce overhead and headaches for me, so if anyone does either of these, thank you! ^^

However, I do believe to consistently do this botm, you'll be needing to simplify it, I just suggest either narrowing it down to 3 bot winners or 3 catergories, I suggest Stock, Ironforge and DSL.

That won't simplify things, as I'd still need to do the two parts of this project that require the most work - collecting people's bots that they made this month, and then asking them which bot from the month they'd like to submit. Plus, if I did that approach, the DSL category would be, in no uncertain terms, HUGE.

Stock, IF, DSL-S and DSL-IRL then?

Again, would have to collect bots and ask people which one they want to enter. The issue isn't the amount of categories, it's the amount of bots, collecting said bots, and then asking which one they want to use for that month.

One solution I could think of that'd save me time is if people labelled, once a month, which bot they were entering into what category. So, if they made a bot in, let's say, DSL-S, that they were really proud of, they could put a little image next to the splash image to indicate to me "Okay, this is the one I'm entering". That'd save me quite a chunk of time.

That could actually work, it's the same as current botm, just containing more categories. Or maybe just send the image over itself.

Both of those I'm open to!

So, to whoever reads this - save me a bit of work. Starting next month, either send me your "A New BOTM" entries on the 25th, or, tag your bots that you want to enter with an image or text string indicating such. Cool? Cool.

Well, we're into the second month of me running A New BOTM. I'm just about to send the e-mails out for this second month, but the question in my head is, do people really care for it? It requires a lot of e-mails and upkeep on my end, so if nobody cares, it'd save me a job running it. However, if people are still invested, I don't mind. Lemme know, y'all.

I know I FORTPEX cant answer this right now but do they all have to be based on a theme? also no cruiser weights or super heavy weights?

No, they don't have to be based on a theme, you can make whatever you want. If you wanna do CW's and SHW's, you can do those in the 3 spare slots you have, but you'll only be judged on your skills in the LW, MW and HW departments.

Modifications / Natural Selection AI

AI Evolved, Natural Selection AI ain't just your ordinary AI pack. It differs from every other AI pack out there in a few areas:

-All robots in this pack are made by people from this community.
-Spaces are limited, but submissions for new teams are always open.
-The best teams survive, the worst go extinct.

So, how exactly does this work?
Anyone can submit any amount of teams, so long as each team consists of at least 1 LW, MW and HW. Spaces are limited to only 32 teams, however, so only 32 teams at a time will be in the pack.

What happens when more than 32 teams are submitted?
Ah, now that's where things get interesting. Once we go over 32 teams, a 16-team swiss-style tournament starts, with the most powerful HW, MW or LW from each team stepping up to represent, depending on which weight class is randomly decided. The 16 teams submitted into that swiss are the 16 least recently tested teams, I.E. new entrants or teams that haven't been in combat recently. The top scoring 8 stay in the pack, the rest go EXTINCT FOREVER! Much like Darwin's theory of evolution, you have to fight to keep your spot in the pack.

Do I have to submit bots based off of the regular teams, I.E Red Zone, Prehistoric Etc.?
Not at all! Go nuts with your creativity, make whatever you want.

Okay, but, why?
This AI pack is designed to keep evolving as the meta evolves. The closest thing to a community AI pack, NAR AI, has 130+ teams and some of those are using building standards from 2006 - it's impossible to tell what's good and what isn't. With this, only the best bots at the given moment are in, the cream rises to the top.

DSL-S or IRL?
You can submit either, but keep in mind that your bot will have to stand up to everybody else's, and there will be no concessions made if you're a DSL-IRL bot that comes up against a DSL-S bot. Survival of the fittest! If you're really dead-set on including some IRL bots, the best thing to do is to submit 1 rock-solid DSL-S LW, MW & HW (to cover your arse if you get called into a swiss), and then use your other 3 team slots for your flashy IRL stuff.

Are there any other rules I should be aware of?
A full rulelist, as well as download link, will be available at the bottom of this post.

Can I upgrade a bot once it's already in this pack?
Sure, but keep in mind that points for a team are decided on a bot-by-bot basis. If your HW has won 5 competitions and you want to update it, those 5 points will be removed, so it might be wiser to submit a new team or just not update.

My team has two LW's/MW's/HW's - what happens now?
To decide who represents the team in the MW category, those two MW's will fight each other in a best of 3. Whoever wins that goes on to represent the team in that category. This enables builders to have the freedom to create one competitive bot and another that might be more of a show piece.

Full list of rules:

And that's it!

Download link:
Oh, geez! We haven't received enough teams yet to release this AI pack! Why don't you send FOTEPX a team or two?

GLHF

You win. Next image will be edited. 1 thing, what program would you use?

Thank you, you learnt something today. Badger showcased using MS Paint, but I personally recommend Paint.NET - It's free, versatile, and IMO, better than even Photoshop.

Weapons=4 large beater bars

Armor=3mm aluminum
Is this IRL or not? Also, i feel that the large beaters on the small disc ruins the aesthetic. Though the wedge looks good

This is irl.

Reply to badger: 50-70% of showcases have uncropped images. I have to argue, not editing helps more  than hurts the image. It shows the weight of the robot without needing to edit.

Oh my god, stop being so lazy! Just include the weight of the robot in the edited image, ya turkey! 50-70% of showcases have uncropped images, ey? Well, seeing as I'm the one who stores all the images for BOTM, let's see if this is true...

...Aaaaand no. Not even close. In fact, only 21% of images are uncropped, and that's mainly because of the influx of noobs as of late, and because [cringey name goes here] spammed a bunch of uncropped images in Replicas, which he got heavy, HEAVY flak for. In fact, removing [cringey name goes here]'s spammage reduces the number down to a measly 9%, so you ain't fooling nobody with that claim, kid.

No excuse for laziness. Stop being ****ing lazy. You want people to bother giving feedback on your bots? Bother to edit the damn thing.

I've actually never seen a 250CM disc be used, like, ever.
Can't say I didn't try to use it then.
