DSL TC Showcases / Mistfire333's DSL3 Realistic Showcase
« on: March 07, 2014, 08:54:57 AM »
I've started a cool little collection of DSL3 realistic bots, and well I guess it's time to show them off! To start I have a "Hypno-Disc 2" bot that works pretty well for a SHW (Approximately 900 without the SHW piece on it) with the trademark Hypno-Disc as it's weapon powered by a 4 Mag Gearbox. The tornado wheels let it work when flipped over (hence the rhyme on the bottom; Nice try but time to die) and save me from the hassle of getting a srimech for it. The only downside to it is that it is somewhat obnoxious when it is airborne with the disc spinning. It stays completely vertical and when it lands it seems to always stay upside down no matter what, but I guess it isn't a problem since it works upside down too.. In combat, it is insane, take a look.

Just a few seconds into battle and look at the other bot!

Look at that score!

Any comments on it, go right ahead. Also, I'm using the NAR AI pack for DSL3 if you're asking.

I have a System Of A Down themed team coming up next, expect to see them somtime tomorrow or today!

Real Robotics Discussion / Does this sound like a good design?
« on: February 21, 2014, 09:20:03 AM »
Hello my fellow robotic engineers! So my robotics club will be all working on creating our first ever combat robot, and we were thinking of using DSL3 to at least get a simple CONCEPT of what we want to do. Generally our idea is to have a wedgebot, with two discs peeking out from the top. It would get under an opponent and the spinning sawblades would be facing different directions which we expect to create a bouncing effect and cause more damage. Seeing as to how most people here are involved in their own occasional robotic combat events, maybe you could say if for now it sounds like a good idea?

Thanks!

Discussion / Any ideas?
« on: February 11, 2014, 08:36:52 AM »
So I have convinced my Computer Gaming teacher to let use use RA2 in class to help us learn about how to incorporate components into 3d gaming.. well whatever. He put me in charge of the curriculum and I was thinking of showing them how to make bots such as flippers, poking bots, etc. However, I get this whole week and part of next week to cover these topics and I would be done by tomorrow, moving on to a tournament among the students later on. Does anyone have any ideas I could put into the curriculum?

Also, I am planning on appealing to my robotics club with this game as well and to hopefully welcome them into the forums. Surprisingly enough, they have never even considered the robotic combat ideas since they started (wow, this really did get dug underground) and maybe you guys could give me some things to tell the robotics club administrator? They've made their bots before, they made one of those things that shoot cannons into the audience and apparently they made a small forklift bot. But I just feel that the club gets little to no attention because of this, it doesn't exactly spark imaginations. You just find a concept that's been done before, code it and that's it. But then with combat robots you get the ideas such as "how can we make this aerodynamic, where and how could we make the sawblade/hammer more effective". Imagination is what makes us create, and with creation, we get even closer to the future we yearn for.

... Ok actually, I think I might have said enough to convince him myself. Still, though, I'd like insight by your part to make this work and incorporate combat robots into my school's robotic club and help me get involved.

Online Battles / Has this been attempted/thought of before?
« on: February 11, 2014, 08:32:05 AM »
I'm gonna keep it short:

Has anyone ever considered making a 24/7 server on gameranger exclusively for those late night RA2 players wishing to squeeze in a match? I mean I have a hypothesis on why not, mainly because people don't go on multiplayer that much but still, it's peaked my curiosity.

Discussion / DSL3 Suggestions?
« on: February 11, 2014, 08:29:52 AM »
Can anyone recommend any good downloads that go with the DSL3 mod? I already have the Paranoia AI on there, but I feel like I'm missing something that everybody else has. Just some ideas on what I should get would be enough, thanks!

Online Battles / Let's just have a casual battle
« on: February 03, 2014, 08:22:27 AM »
I'm up for some multiplayer. Maybe tonight around 8:00 or 9:00 pacific time. I do have two simple rules however, just to be able to make things "easy" for newbies like me.

1. Due to being somewhat of an inexperienced bot creator, I ask that simple bots (basically anything that looks realistic) are used for these online battles only.

2. No cheatbots

The arena will be the Octagon arena, the version will be stock, and again, no cheatbots. The bot I will be battling with is shown here: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=10131

And once more I repeat, keep the bots you will be battling me with simple. Please? My name in gameranger is Mistfire333.

Site News and Feedback / Having trouble changing my profile picture :c
« on: February 01, 2014, 04:49:50 PM »
Just a simple issue. I'm trying to both upload a profile picture/link a URL but two different problems occur.

1. When I try to UPLOAD a picture, no matter what I upload the picture is too large or not an avatar

2. When linking a URL, the picture does not show up.

Help? All I'm trying to do is change my picture to this: http://www.armeniapedia.org/images/a/ae/Daron_malakian-arsineh_khachikian.jpg

Online Battles / Need help with starting up gameranger for RA2
« on: February 01, 2014, 04:34:46 PM »
Ok, well to be on a tangent at the very start.

Dear god, I was obnoxious.

Now back to the topic, I have returned after gaining interest in RA2 again and this time around I'm going to be more involved in the game. I have some edited AI bots to show off in the Bot Showcase, but I want to see if I can set up multiplayer with gameranger first. Just a simple step-by-step tutorial would be nice, because all I can sya that I'm having trouble with is that it asks me to install the web flash player when I already have it installed (google chrome)
But yeah. Nice to be back c:

Stock Showcases / Mistfire333's showcase

NOTE. I HAVE DELETED THE FIRST TWO BOTS I WAS "SHOWING OFF" BECAUSE THEY ARE EMBARRASSING FAILURES. INSTEAD I AM GOING TO DISPLAY ME NEWER GENERATION OF BOTS.

Another thing before you look at my bots. My team's name is District 7 and respectively has ax-based weapons as a theme. Yes, I know that the small ax is not that good of a weapon but it works for me. Now, if I could get tips on alternatives that still correspond to my theme I will not reject these ideas.

To begin, I am showing my only bot. I stole the design off of Grog (stock) and just switched out the swinging weapon. I gave it a battleaxe to use as a static weapon on the back, and added ax pistons on the front with two Co2 containers. Not much is changed otherwise, and I am aware that it's cheap of me to steal an AI bot's design but its for me to get an idea of what I should use and how it works.

It's name is Mist.
