A fresh start. I am going re-learn what I have forgotten. I am more inclined towards function rather than aesthetics so robot designs may be less populardifferent than before, including more use of custom components.
Designs will be posted here. Thanks for comments and feedback.

I feel like making some robots. The good news is I have forgotten how to do just about everything.
I have a couple of questions:

 >Is this place still active in terms of building?

 >Has a compatible free or cheap 3D editor for the GMF files been found? I have found a vector coordinate software for mapping points but something more user friendly would be good.
 >Have seen some new mods with new components mentioned in forum. Any links welcome, as I cannot see any in downloads section apart from stock and DSL 2.1
 >Could someone link me the DSL3 mod if that is still around?

Just build some bots and see what's what.

 Thanks.

I have been looking for something long-term to work on in my spare time and this old game came to mind. I plan to redo all UI graphics and audio with a Robot Wars theme. I will also add to the robot roster and expand the components list. Tasks: Music SFX UI graphics Arena - Arena will be a standard box. I am yet to decide between 'box' and the 'BB cube' to base off. Expanded robot roster UPDATE: I have been working on the game intro and have replaced the music and have been working on the splashes. [I am also returning to building robots. I have forgotten almost everything so it will be like a fresh start.]

Greetings. I would like to put together a large collection of AI'd DSL/IRL-ish robots into one AI pack for use in the game. Taking some of the AI packs and merging them together, plus robots from builders and making a usable mega-pack of approx. 100-200 + robots. I am sure there will be issues with compatible AI files but I'm sure this can be worked around.

 Any thoughts?

How about instead of multiple showcases one single 'new robot design' thread that everyone posts into? Obvs. separate ones for DSL/Stock etc. Might save space and time. Also/or users could have individual threads containing all of the things they are doing with RA2, like a journal thread. This could clean the forum up a bit? Just a thought.

Anyone know what controls how the bot lab is lit and how to change to a monochrome shade or even turn off? I want to get rid of/reduce lighting shadows if possible to see what is going on better. Thanks.

Hi, what does E-02 and similar mean in the context of vertex coordinates, example: *MESH_VERTEX   0   -1.565977E-02   1.999986E-03   -0.2426668

I am using a 3D point mapping application to map out components to make them easier to modify and I need to know what to put for these as it doesn't recognise it as a term. Thanks for any help.

I am thinking about making a DSL based total conversion mod/expansion (DSL Deluxe?) with all new bots designed by me. It would include a new UI skin, component fixes and some new, and additional set of teams, changed arenas, expanded texture library among other things. If I outlined a blueprint of what I wanted to do would anyone of skill in certain areas be interested in becoming part of a small development team? Any thoughts about this?

Is it possible to do the paint job outside of the game somehow and get a really good finish on it? If so what is the best method?

I'm  making a mental list of things I want to customise. One thing I've wanted to do was make a JX or similar that acts like a servo/linear motor so you can lift and keep it lifted. Is this possible? If so what do?

OK, I am going to bite the bullet over this weekend and try to resize a wheel using the .gmf. I get the feeling this could be quite tricky and time consuming so I am inviting anyone who has done this before to give any advice/tips and problems they found and how the solved them. Any help would be appreciated.

Ideally I am going to try to make a wheel custom designed for the smallest motors so I can make really low robots.

Hey, I have noticed the two sets of vertices that you get in most .gmfs, are both sets always the same ie top is outside mesh and bottom set is the component part?

Those of you left out there who make components using a 3D modeller, what do you use assuming you're not using 3DS Max? If I can get a process that is fairly efficient depending on the modeller I am using I am going to start making custom components regularly. I would be happy to set up a component workshop thread and take requests. Any help? (Imagine the bots I could put out with the ability to make components).      Any help anyone can give me towards this end is appreciated.

I am looking for a wheel about so big: To be used on the smallest wheel motors. Anyone know if there is one out there or could perhaps do me a massive favour and make one? I had a look at editing the .gmf of a wheel file but is it possible to edit wheel size like that? Also, which is the best free or moderately cheap alternative to 3DS Max? I tried Blender but I don't like it too much. Thanks for the help.

Greetings, I was wondering if it is possible in the .gmf or somewhere to make components shiny i.e polished or chrome stc? Ideally to be able to do this to most/all components. Thanks.

Greetings, I am having a problem with components disappearing when mounted. Sometimes after leaving the bot building screen some components disappear and I cannot find them to delete them (program still thinks they are attached). Anyone know how to get around this or prevent it? Thanks.
