Off-Topic Discussion / Anyone Extra Life?
« on: October 28, 2016, 02:00:15 AM »
It's been well over a year (almost two, actually) since I last posted here. I keep getting busy and forgetting to stop by! I wonder if anyone I know is still here...? Anyway, I'm just nosy if anyone else is participating in Extra Life this year. This will be my team's fourth year, and like most participants our annual 24 hour marathon live stream this year will be on November 5th.

While the goal is always to raise money for children's hospitals, I really also enjoy both the experience of the marathon as well as the logistical and technical challenge of arranging and executing the live stream.

Does anyone else participate in Extra Life, and if so, do you have any stories to share?

Game Development / The new AAGH Game Center
« on: December 09, 2014, 01:40:19 PM »
Heya folks. My friend and I have been making flash games for a few months now (including for the last two Ludum Dare game jams), and I finally have a nice place for them on my site, All Around Gaming Hub. It is called the AAGH Game Center, and if you're interested you can check it out. It currently just holds our handful of simple flash games that we have made (while working on our main game).

Right now you can play:
  • Chicken Boom, a simple shooting gallery game
  • Melody's Long Ladder Home, a resource-based platformer that we made for Ludum Dare 30
  • Icy the No-Man's Trivial Travails, a trivia board game that we made for Ludum Dare 31 (which just ended and is currently in its judgement phase)

You can visit the AAGH Game Center here.

Game Development / Latest Game - Chicken Boom
« on: March 25, 2014, 03:58:30 AM »
My pal and I have put together our second game, entitled Chicken Boom. It's a simple endless shooting gallery game with five guns, lightning storms, and non-stop falling chickens. It's the greatest thing ev...

... yeah, it's actually pretty bland. We were learning to make flash games and this was the result. We did like it enough to put it on AAGH, and we also plopped in on Kongregate for the heck of it (to a whole whopping a 2.1 (out of 5) star rating). I'm sharing it here for fun and to follow up on what I've been up to since our last game, Party Ball was completed last year.

You can play Chicken Boom on AAGH here.

Here's a couple of pics of it in action.

Game Development / Game I'm Working On: Party Ball - Released + Demo
« on: September 03, 2013, 01:44:59 AM »
Update: Party Ball is available on our site! Yay!

Update 2: Now there's a demo, as well.

A friend and I are making a simple little game we're calling Party Ball. It's visually sparse and absolutely basic in it's design: you're a beach ball rolling up cups of cola on your way to party. Because you can't (or shouldn't) party alone, you need at least eight cups to complete each level. Here's more info on our project.

http://www.indiedb.com/games/party-ball

We've gotten as far as finishing up world one (a beach/seashore with five levels + a bonus level) and started on world two (a forest - on fire). I should probably make a new preview vid with some of the visual fixes that have been done, but whatever for now.

The control gimmick is that you can roll right, down/right and up/right, or pause in place, but the levels aren't straight right; there are hard turns and backtracking points that require controlled bouncing to get you to your goal.

What do you folks think?

Existing Games / Planetside 2
« on: May 11, 2013, 05:11:22 AM »
Just wondering if anyone else plays Planetside 2. I'm not very good but still get a kick out of playing. It's always fun to run with a coordinated squad or platoon, especially when you're matching wits (and bullets) with a rival squad/platoon. I play TR, usually as heavy assault, with a focus on keeping rival rides out of commission.  I tend to get slaughtered pretty regular, sadly. :vista: (<- that's about how I feel after getting gunned down the 10th time in a row). Anyone else play Planetside 2?

Off-Topic Discussion / Boredom = Terrible Rants
« on: June 24, 2012, 02:04:42 AM »
I know this isn't technically music or a video, but I didn't think it belonged in the Computer Hardware section so I'm posting it here. I was epically bored one night so I broke out one of my old character voices from my youth and recorded... well, I would best call it a 'rant.' It's not particularly funny or educational. It's just me ranting about Brontosaurs.

Rast'van, the chara I'm (attempting) to inflect is from New Jersey. He was born there and has never crossed the state borders so no one knows where he got his phoney-baloney accent from. It's best described as 10% eastern European, 10% Asian, 30% Midwestern American English and 50% Cookie Monster. Make of that what you will. My voice was hushed a bit since I was trying not to wake the entire house (at 3 in the morning).

I think it's dumb but I'm good at dumb things so there ya go. Enjoy (if you can). Anyone got an opinion? Bring it on!  :gunz: lol

Existing Games / Diablo 3 is out (and buggy)!
« on: May 15, 2012, 11:38:02 PM »
Anyone else playing Diablo 3? I got on the minute it launched here in Ohio (3 AM yesterday) but I only have a mere 3 and a half hours in the game. Why? Well for one, the North America server was down most of the day. Go Blizzard! Way to go, screwing folks who want to play solo to accommodate the multi-player playing masses. lol

I'm just griping for kicks, I guess because when it does work Diablo 3 is allot of fun. I currently  have a level 9 witch doctor named Spook and lvl. 7 barbarian named Clunk. Who's everyone else playing?

Existing Games / Portal 2 Perpetual Testing Initiative
« on: May 12, 2012, 09:09:14 PM »
I figured this could be as good a place as any to gather people's Portal 2: PTI test chambers and promote good ones we've found for others to try.

I've made three so far but only one (found here) is decent. Has anyone made/found any good ones yet?

Existing Games / Random acts of Gaming at Chaos is Gaming
« on: April 20, 2012, 12:00:35 AM »
Last week my friend Will and I started a small site to cover our gaming exploits. Intended to be entertaining and humorous, it's off to a slow start as we try to find a niche and style but it's there. It's called Chaos is Gaming, located at chaosisgaming.com. So far we've tried out a few Minecraft mods, played allot of Team Fortress 2, fit in some Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots and a few other titles so far.

What you may gather from this site is that we must be pretty bad. That's not really true - we're actually just intentionally reckless, hence the name of the site. If you're wondering about the abundance of AI opponents, we play mostly against bots for the time being as the site is reared up (for various reasons).

We update on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has any (semi-constructive) suggestions or opinions. My current favorite article is probably Rise of Nations: Fall of Bud.

EDIT: Hey, if you stop by Chaos is Gaming, could you fill out this survey for us? It'd be a big help.

Existing Games / My game review site
« on: December 18, 2011, 04:38:03 AM »
I'm not sure this is the appropriate forum for this, but here goes.  I've been reviewing console and PC games on my site since January 2005 - so I'm not some start-up or upstart - and I wanted to share it with you folks.  Formerly e-AAGH.net, it's now called All Around Gaming Hub, or just AAGH. I've got a meager staff now (I used to have more, but they bailed years ago) and I do 99% of the writing, so you'll see mostly my stuff. We underwent a change from a handmade HTML-based site to this new Wordpress-based setup in February this year. (If, for some reason, you're curious about our history, it's all described here.)

I strive for a generally professional style without an elitist tone. My goal is to speak to the 'average gamer,' rather then the uber hardcore or overly casual gamers. If you like games, play them for fun (and not to prove some arbitrary point about your perceived self-worth) and just enjoy gaming as a hobby and not a job, you'll like AAGH.

Oh, and if this is out of place, please lock it and/or delete it. Thanks!  ;)

Modifications / Robot Wars: Robot Arena 2 AI Pack
« on: September 17, 2011, 07:26:23 AM »
Hey everyone. Wassup? I used to work on a Robot Wars AI mod way back when, and it went over pretty good. I've gotten requests to release my updated bots (seen in ), so I am. The only catch is that my parts list is so bulky and ugly and the bots use so many tiny or custom parts that I couldn't figure out what was and wasn't needed. Therefore I just bundled up my whole stupid components collection and am shipping it with the AI bots.

It's been years since I put the bots together so I don't honestly remember what all I used in them, but they still work good. I'd love to know if the pack works for anyone.
