Real Robotics Discussion / Real Robotics Section - Clean Up
« on: September 09, 2012, 03:00:50 AM »
I've just gone through every single thread in the real robotics section and moved all threads to where they should be. The reason for this is that I looked through this section briefly yesterday and I reckon about a third of threads are in the wrong place. Anyone with mod powers can look at the log and can see that a lot of moving has taken place :P

So I think this makes it a bit more obvious as to where a thread belongs. If not there's a guide here:

- Member's Robots: Threads about the actual builds of your robots, event reports etc. Not a section for threads regarding as to how to build them or how to get started.

- General Discussion: Discussion about everything in robotics not related to building robots or parts.

- Building Tips and Discussion: Threads about how to build a robot, what to build and how to get started.

- Robot Parts: Discussion and reviews about robot parts, suppliers and kits.

If your thread has been moved (which applies to a lot of threads in the member's robots section) it shouldn't be hard to find. There are less than 200 threads in this section so recent threads are likely to remain on the front page of their section, and you can use the guide above to locate it. If you still can't find it let me know and I'll locate it for you.

There are still bound to be some threads in the wrong place, again if you find one let me know and I'll have a look. Most importantly I moved a load from the member's robots section to building tips and discussion as there wasn't any build in them. If a build had started in one of these (not just a gathering of parts) again let me know and I'll move it back.

Happy? All feedback welcome as I can still do as much moving about as I want =)

General Support / GMF issues
« on: August 27, 2011, 05:04:04 PM »
So I opened up a GMF and replaced the map file for a component, then going back in game when I try to select the component the game crashes

Is it something to do with re-complying that I need to do, or something else?

Thanks

Modifications / SkAI High - Full Download
« on: July 28, 2011, 10:44:42 AM »

A few days ago I finished SkAI High for good, and gave it to some beta testers. Today I have realised it would probably be more beneficial to release it fully, as the entire community can serve as beta testers for this. So here you have it. Many thanks to G.K., Squirrel_Monkey, SKBT, king mushroom, yoda9726 and Scrap Daddy for help with the AI opponents.

Enjoy!

Discussion / Squares?
« on: June 25, 2011, 05:09:55 PM »
I've noticed that sometimes, when your bot is damaged, squares come off it like smoke does

What is this, some corrupt file or something?

FORMAT
Three qualifying fights (so every bot gets atleast 3 fights), 3 bots in each:
 - 4 points for a knockout
 - 3 points for a WBP (Win By Points)
 - 2 points for second
 - 1 point for third
 - 0 points for disqualification
Top scorers go into the Final 12 (may have to run a few melee's to decide between bots on the same points)
Then 6 one on one fights
Winners go into 3 one on one fights
Winners go through into semifinals, losers go into a three way losers melee, one goes through
2 Semifinals
1 3rd Place Play Off
1 Final
As well as all that, 8 bots that didn't make the Final 12 go into the Annihil8or, I will choose the bots
I will choose on the basis of making it as interesting as possible, not neccesarily the best bots, but a wide range of bot types

Rules:
1) Stock MW
2) No losers bracket
3) No BFE/AAM/ZeroG/Nasty Pickle etc.
4) Other ingame glitches are allowed
5) Realistic rule does not apply
6) No custom components, cheatbot2 not allowed, but the 140cm extender is allowed
7) Replica Wars Arena
8) Multibots not allowed
9) A havok results in an instant loss, if it affects other bots in the match, it will be restarted without the havok'ed bot, in qualifying,
    0 points is awarded
10) Match time is one minute, (otherwise its too easy to get 4 points in qualifying)
11) You can enter up to 3 bots, upon certain regulations:
      - Only your first bot will be AI'd for you, if you can't AI, you can't enter more than one bot, if a bot is sent past your one AI'd limit without working AI, then it will be disqualified
      - Only one of your bots can be a Popup/Horizontal Spinner
      - Bots are divided into the following categories:
Popup, Spinner, Flipper, Hammer, SNS, Crawler, Rammer/Wammer/Poker
These designs can only be used once, one on each bot
Hybrids are allowed, and fall under the category of the weapon which most weight is used on, SNSNS fall under SNS however
      - Each of your entries can only be sent 3 days after the last one, not bothered about what time in the day it is sent
12) My rules of controlled movement: All bots, (bar crawlers) must have two wheels which move the bot!
13) One update ONLY, this is not per bot, per entrant, and can only be used on one bot, use it wisely
14) I will not reserve spots, send a bot if you want to enter!

General Support / Windows 7 does not like RA2
« on: June 21, 2011, 10:49:34 AM »
I opened up the AI folder, and opened up a team logo image, and changed it

Still remained a .bmp, same size, same file name
I start RA2, go to select an AI bot, and it crashes

I have noticed by clicking on the folder RA2 is in, properties, it is in "Read Only"
I unchecked "Read Only", and clicked on "Apply", but as soon as I re-open the properties, and it reset itself to "Read Only"

I much preferred Vista  :(

General Support / RA2 AI folder being a pain
« on: June 16, 2011, 02:53:57 PM »
So, I've got Stock RA2
I delete the AI folder
Paste in SCv4 AI folder
Open Teams.txt
Delete teams 15 onwards
Change bots in each team from 0 1 2 3 4 5 to 0 1 2
Change picture in each team
Open Bindings.py
Delete teams 15 onwards
Delete bot 3 4 5 bindings in each team
Delete teams folders from 15 onwards
Open up teams folders, delete bots 3 4 5

I open up the game, go onto exhibition, select the computer icon and the game crashes
