Tournament Archives / Survival of the Fittest 2: Survive Harder« on: July 29, 2012, 05:51:20 AM »
It's been two whole years. I think it's time for my first sequel. Survival of the Fittest 2: Survive Harder.
Each entrant will build a team consisting of a Lightweight, a Middleweight, and a Heavyweight. When they send the team, they will specify the order the team should be entered. (LW, then MW, then HW...MW, HW, then LW, whatever). This will be the order they are entered in every rumble they participate. The matches will be 4 way rumbles. the first bot on each team will face off against each other. When the first bot in a rumble is eliminated, the match is stopped and the eliminated bot is replaced with the next one on that team. The match is then restarted. This continues until there is only one team left. That team is declared the winner of the match and moves on. If the match goes to time, the bot with the lowest point total is the one eliminated. In the highly unlikely event of a tie (be it an equal score or two bots being eliminated at the same time) both bots are eliminated. 1. This will be a DSL tournament 2. No custom components, cheatbot, BFE, Haxmode, AAM or any other cheaty stuff 3. skinned components ARE allowed 4. Standard DSL Realism enforced. 5. Arena will be the Ring Arena 6. Havok restart rule: A bot can have one free havok restart. A second one in a match, and that bot is eliminated. If in the same match a bot from the same team gets yet another havok, that entire team is eliminated (thanks for the suggestion NFX) 7. A Maximum of 6 flails PER TEAM are allowed (2 more from last time) 8. Because I love the things so much, Ring Spinners are allowed. 8a. Ring Spinner builder rules. a. chassis must be close to the same size and shape as your ring. No tiny square chassis with a extra large disc. b. only thing the disc is allowed to pass through is motors and wheels. batteries and control board must still be clear. 9. As always, I strongly encourage you to AI your own bots, however, if you can't, I will do it for you. 10. Crawlers are also allowed, but no bumblebots, trinity flyers, nasty pickles, controlled movement is key. 11. Loophole closer: Popups and True popups count as the same bot type for the "all bots must be different types" rule. Same goes for SS and FSS. 12. Due to the amount of bots involved, only 16 entrants allowed, with a wildcard match. last 4 to enter will go through a separate match. the one coming out on top will become entrant number 16. 13. Team themes strongly encouraged, In the very least, I want a team name. 14. In the interest of shortening the vids, the time limit on the heats will be 2 minutes. 15. Nicsan get an automatic entry if he wants it for winning In The Air Tonight. 16. I will enter if there is space for me, if not, it's all you guys. 17. You are allowed ONE update of your team. This can be either minor changes to the entire team (each bot stays the same original bot type, just changing weapons around or adding more armor as an example) OR you may do a major change to ONE bot (becomes a completely new bot). This is mostly to prevent an abundance of placeholders. 18. "Clickbeetle Caught Me Rule": All bots on a team must be different types. My entry: Team "With a Baseball Bat" ![]() Peanut is a HS, Butters a Ring Spinner, and Jelly? is..I'm calling it a SnFs (sit and face spin). I'm entering them in LW/MW/HW order. Entrants: entered and approved problem entered, approved and AI'd reserved spot 1. ty4er 2. skbt 3.marty 4. 090901 5. squirrel_monkey 6. conraaa 7. nicsan 8.urjak 9. Discussion / Hypothetical regarding tournaments« on: October 24, 2011, 02:26:15 PM »
I know this is very unlikely to happen, But if by some bizarre fluke a bye bot were to win a match, would it advance? And if it does, and continues to get fluke after fluke, eventually winning the tournament, Do we declare it the champ or what? I had a really bizarre dream last night...lol

Tournament Archives / In The Air Tonight« on: July 27, 2011, 07:36:38 PM »
The poll is done and we have a clear winner. My next tournament is officially to be "In The Air Tonight".
Rules are as follows. 1. 32 bots allowed. In the event 32 entrants are not received within a reasonable amount of time, there will either be byes given to pad the entrants, or there will be a wildcard bracket to determine who gets the last spot in a 16 bot tournament. The determination will be made based on how close we get to 32... 2. DSL Heavyweight 3. Your arena will be the Parking Lot 4. No cheatbot2, ai parts, or custom components allowed, except for..... 5...https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/123hovercraft.zip << that. brought to you by 123savethewhales, this is the hovercraft engine that is to be used on all bots. The thrusters that come with it ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED 6. No wheels allowed, your mode of locomotion MUST be the hovercraft. 7. All building must be done in the botlab, therefore no BFE, AAM, or any of that other naughty stuff. 8. HAX mode IS allowed, providing rule number 9 is followed, and none of this 'exostacking' stuff 9. Realistic rule enforced. 10. Custom AI is allowed, provided it's not of the cheaty type, ie. no healing, constant damage, etc. etc. 11. Standard double elimination brackets. 12. Also standard havok rules. 1 havok restart per bot per match. On a second, disqualification. 13. No trinity, nasty pickle, whatever, controlled movement is the key here. 14. Multibots are allowed, both must be dispatched to count as a loss. 15. matches are 3 minutes long. 16. having a component move under your hovercraft to gain lift is allowed, however, if your bot is designed to gain a few point lead and then shoot into the sky to avoid any further damage, I'll count it as an OOTA (My discretion, don't worry, i'm fair) 17. I can AI for you, but as always AIing yourself is the preferred method. 18. All bots must have at least one ant battery for realism purposes, even if you don't use an electric motor. 19. Phil Collins references still encouraged. As usual, comments, concerns, "hey, moron, you forgot this thing" are encouraged. 10
Tournament Archives / my next tournament« on: July 12, 2011, 06:44:22 AM »
So, I've got a bit of a problem. I've got a bunch of ideas for my next tournament, and can't decide which one to go with. That's where you guys come in. I'm going to list my ideas and a brief description, and leave it to your vote. Each of these is intended for DSL (Sorry, stockers)
1. War Was Beginning: Davids vs. Goliaths: Two factions of 8 entrants each face off against each other. The Davids each build a multibot weighing in at a combined weight of 800 kg. The Goliaths each enter 1 standard HW bot. Entrant 1 of the Davids faces off against Entrant 1 of the Goliaths. Next entrant 2 vs. 2 so on and so forth. The survivors are then randomized, and face off in turn against whoevers left on the opposing faction. This goes on until one faction is totally obliterated. The surviving faction is declared the winner. 2. War Was Beginning: Brawn vs Brains: Same set up as Davids vs. Goliaths, except this times the factions are Brains: standard HW bot vs Brawn: an uncontrolled, non-ai'd bot. The Brawn must be ran off of a single switch which will be activated at the start of the match and left running throughout. Brawns are allowed an extra 100 kgs on their bot. Also, special rule, If a Brawn is counted out due to the Brain never hitting it, or the Brain is AI'd in such a way that it intentionally avoids the Brawn, the Brain will be the one eliminated. This is to prevent a situation like Doom Dreidel being incapable of beating Grog, solely because Grog doesn't reach DD before the countdown starts and DD can only mobilize when hit. 3. Bizzaro world: Fairly standard DSL HW tournament, with the exception that the realistic rule is turned off. Stacking, intersecting, Everything you usually expect from Stock building brought over into the world of DSL. 4. Behemoth Battle: Another fairly standard DSL HW tournament, with a chassis restriction. All chassis by themselves must weigh at least 15 kg with Plastic: 1 armor. This is for the people sick of the ultratiny chassis. 5. In the Air Tonight: Hovercraft engines not only allowed, but required. All wheels banned. Complete and fully detailed rules will be posted when the vote is over in 2 weeks time. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. 11

Discussion / RA2/GTM psychographs.« on: May 11, 2011, 05:59:13 AM »
I'm arguing with myself whether this should go here or in the Chatterbox, feel free to move it if i made the wrong choice.
I dont know how many of you play Magic: The Gathering, but within that community, there exist three primary playstyles (called psychographs). These are called Timmy, Johnny, and Spike. Timmy is the type that likes to play with the big, yet inefficient creatures and effects. Timmy likes to go large or go home, basically. Johnny is the creative type. He likes to use cards that most people pass by, in a new and interesting way. He wants to make you say "I never thought of that". Then there's Spike, who cares about winning, winning, winning. Efficiency is everything to Spike. He'll wretch at the thought of using a card if there's even a slightly better version he can get his hands on. Enough of the intro, the question is what are the RA2/GTM psychographs? Where do you fit in the equation, and would we need more, new ones here, or do Magic's 'big three' cover it? Clickbeetle is the first to come to my mind when I think of a Johnny. Nary is a great Spike candidate. Timmy, well noone comes to mind right off the top of my head. I think of myself as somewhat of a Johnny. I have a tendency to build topdown designs, the seven deadly sins being a good example. I worry less about efficiency and more about 'this could be fun'. But I do have a bit of Spike as well, I want my bots to be at least semi-combat worthy as well... 13

Tournament Archives / Our Replicas Are Different Signups« on: April 04, 2011, 04:36:46 PM »Allright, It's time for signups... The rules are: 1. 16 bots allowed, last 4 entrants will go into a wildcard rumble. 2. DSL SuperHeavyweight in the combat zone arena with hazards off 3. No cheatbot or replica parts 4. No custom components 5. All building done in botlab, so no BFE, AAM, or any of that cheaty stuff, skinning is allowed (nearly required) 6. multibots are allowed, both bots must add up to no more that 1200 kg 7. Multibots must both be beaten to count as a win. 8. 'loose' realistic rule will apply. This is standard realism, with slight allowances of breaking realism for looks only. 9. Don't bother with Narmour, it won't work. 10. matches will be 3 minutes, 1 on 1, best 2 out of 3, with a losers bracket 11. Standard Havok restart rules. You get 1 free, Cause a second one and your bot is DQ'd for that round. 12. I can and will AI for those who can't, but AI'ing your own bot is the preferred method. If I AI it and it's not what you wanted, the imperfection is yours. No Whining. 13. custom .py's allowed, not including the cheaty type (healing damage, constant damage, etc. etc.) 14. You must make a decent effort to make your bot look like it was built out of something else. 15. It doesn't have to be perfect, as long as we can get the idea of what it is supposed to be. 16. Beyond that, most bot types allowed, save for trinity flyers, nasty pickles, or bumblers. 17. In this tourney at least, the old adage of "size doesn't matter" happens to be true. Who cares if the can of dew is as big as the lawnmower? 18. The most important rule, this is for fun... I have two gauranteed spots for the winner and runner up of Survival of the Fittest, 090901 and Ogre. Other than them, it's first come, first served. I am only going to enter if the signups do not get filled in a timely manner. Let's have some fun! *= you've used your one update. Gauranteed spot, no bot yet. Bot Received and approved. What's this? Another replica tournament? Well, kinda. The idea behind this one is NOT to make replicas of a 'bot', but to make a 'replica' of...something else. A bot that appears to have been made out of some object, or in the shape of...whatever. Here's a few examples...
![]() Yup, a lawnmower and a can of mountain dew. So, some rules... 1. 16 bots allowed, last 4 entrants will go into a wildcard bracket. 2. All building done in botlab, so no BFE, AAM, or any of that cheaty stuff, skinning is allowed (nearly required) 6. multibots are allowed, both bots must add up to no more that 1200 kg 7. Who cares if the can of dew is as big as the lawnmower? 15. The most important rule, this is for fun... recently added rules 16. Havok restarts as per usual. you get one free, on a second havok from YOUR bot, you're disqualified 17. Narmour: don't bother. It won't work. 18. Multibots must both be destroyed/immobilized to count as a win. Promo vid: questions, comments, anything i've missed, additional ideas? let's hear them. 16

SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST FORMAT: DSL in Nar AI Each entrant makes a team consisting of a LW, a MW, and a HW. Matches consist of a rumble, starting out with all LW's of 4 teams. When 1 bot is eliminated, the match is stopped and the eliminated bot is removed, to be replaced by the next bot in the team. The match will then begin anew. This goes on until 3 teams are eliminated, last team standing wins the match. RULES: 16 entrants only Each entrant must make their entire team. arena will be a reskinned RA2 Tournament arena This will be ran in NarAI v2.2. All components legal in that are legal in the tourney No BFE, AAM, etc. All building must be done in the bot lab. Realistic rule enforced. each bot in a team must be different types. A strict limit of 4 flails PER TEAM. Standard Havok restart rules. I reserve the right to edit videos of long matches down. This will consist of cutting out any extended section of bots in a cluster, barely moving. Entrants AI'ing their own bots is preferred, however, i can AI if need be.
