Game Development / In-Browser Besiege-Like prototype.
« on: June 05, 2016, 11:24:14 PM »
I coded this up yesterday and today for fun and to try to tame the Unity default physics system a little better. (I ultimately want to make a robot combat game)

There currently aren't rebind-able keys, although that's half implemented.

Left click on an object type and then select an attachment point to place it. There currently isn't any way to rotate a placed item or switch the attachment point.

Hover over an object and press X to delete it. (a glitch currently allows you to delete the 'base cube,' If you do that then you have to refresh.

Middle mouse button changes the camera focus.
Click and drag or use WSAD to rotate the camera.
Arrow Keys for the motors (hence the L/R)
Hold space for thrust on the jet (It builds up over time)

As you'll notice, the wheels don't work great. They effect the vehicle's rotation too much and during collisions, even at relatively low speed they have a tendency to freak out. I'm working on a way to fix this.

Discussion / The New Chassis System is B.S.

I am putting this in a separate topic because it should be known by anyone interested in buying the game.

The video speaks for itself

http://mywebspace.quinnipiac.edu/jlpapasian/gdd200/Final.html

It's in a Unity web player, so FireFox works best.

My main goal was to create a level generator, which I succeeded at.
It's decently difficult but a few of the obstacles are more focused on fun. Let yourself get squished! it's a neat effect.

It's not complete, especially the audio, but I don't foresee myself putting too much more time into it.

WSAD or Arrow keys - movement
Space - Jump
Q/E - Camera rotation (90 degree increments)

The menus need to be clicked. In retrospect, I would have made them keyboard accessible.

Let me know what you guys think.
Comments? Criticism? Whatever.

Here are a few gifs and pics (old builds) I had lying around that might entice you to give it a try.

(The slide sticking has been mostly fixed)

General Support / Alt-Tab Woes
« on: March 18, 2010, 03:11:14 PM »
I guess it is know by most that using Alt-Tab in RA2 often causes glitches. This has become an even bigger pain for me because I use dual monitors and want to be able to scroll through videos, etc. without crashing or glitching the game.
Today it was causing me a lot of grief while trying to play through Hamachi.

Anyone been able to avoid this?
Should I play Full Screen or Windowed mode?
Also, I am on vista if that makes a difference.

General Support / Limit to number of AI bots?
« on: September 04, 2008, 09:41:27 PM »
I am trying to add another bot. (I have already added some)

As far as I can tell I am doing everything right with the .bot files and the binding, but I just keep getting a black square where the bot should be.
I have also tried to switch the bot for another to make sure it wasn't the .bot file or whatever.

I doubt there is a limit to the amount of AI bots, but is there?

Discussion / skirt help
« on: February 18, 2007, 09:47:51 AM »
I can't keep any of my skirts above ground when they are attached to an axle. I remember there was a glitch, but i can't remember what causes it.

Discussion / Motor stats
« on: February 18, 2007, 09:03:59 AM »
It would be cool if someone could post the stats for the dsl mostors. I want to know how much benefit i would get from switching a perm to a heavier mag, etc.

I already looked through the components folder, and i could barely find anything.

Discussion / Idea for test arena
« on: January 30, 2007, 07:31:05 PM »
It would be cool of we had the option to spawn an object that is easy to get under that weighed 250, 400, 800 kg so we can test flipping power.

General Support / Can't host online or LAN games
« on: December 05, 2006, 09:35:54 PM »
I know this realy doesn't have to do with dsl, but maybe you guys can help me anyway.

Every time I click on the start button it acts like it is loading up. After about five seconds I can move my mouse again, but it didn't start the match or change screens.

General Support / Strange Prblem!
« on: November 19, 2004, 11:57:34 PM »
I had to delete every file on my computer and start from scratch. Before that happened DSL had no problems for me. I tried to reinstall it and now and all of the components in the components section are messed up. All of the hidden components show up and it crashes alot. By the way I have the CD version.
