Ironforge TC Showcases / Jet struggles at Ironforge
« on: July 23, 2016, 03:31:40 PM »
Or Stormwind, either or.

Steel 3 iirc and invertible, first thing I've built. Dunno how strict realism is here, the teeth clip the wheels a bit but not more than you could shorten them imo, only other options are blatantly an issue besides beaters which lift the wheels off the ground. No idea what parts are optimal or anything, good stuff.

General Support / Lol another AI post
« on: April 26, 2011, 01:40:31 AM »
Delving back into the world of AI'ing, having not been near it in a good few years, having a strange issue.

list.append(("Stuck on hold","Omni",{'nose':math.pi*2,'radius':0.1,'topspeed':100,'throttle':130,'turn':60,'turnspeed':4,'weapons':(13,14,16,17,18,19,20,21)}))

I've got a feeling it's a Nose value issue, but i've never encountered this before, so I don't understand it/know how to remedy it. The issue being it will very sluggishly crawl forwards, not caring for hazards/walls or other bots (I know the radius is configured to be aggressive but this isn't what I mean) and will eventually just keep driving into a wall until the countdown starts, at which point it'll back off full speed to avoid being counted out, then just continue crawling forward. My controls are configured correctly, and the bot faces the right away upon match start.

Other than that, just a side question for anyone who'd care to help. It's been a while (as I said) since I AI'd, and this is the first time i've done so in DSL. What does 'turn' address? It's the first time i've seen it.

Thanks, and apologies for another post on the vast subject that AI'ing is. :P

DSL TC Showcases / Jets' DSL showcase
« on: April 21, 2011, 10:32:55 PM »
Ohai, I'm back! ;o

Those who don't remember me, (not that I was particularly well known anyway) I was a member of GTM which joined what's possibly over two years ago. I was around for about two or three months, then real life issues kicked in and I dissapeared from the forums and pretty much abandoned RA2; which I had played for a year or two prior to joining.
I've been moping around the forums in secrecy recently though, using the offchance that I get to fiddle with RA2, and have decided that now things have calmed down I'll give it another shot; being older and wiser, well maybe not the latter...

For those that don't know me. Ohai, i'm new. :3

Anyway, been trying my hand at DSL since I never was good at stacking and fully taking advantages of the stock glitches which you needed really to be competetive; so bear with me.

This is 'Slow Response', a middleweight rammer which I made not so long ago.

Power: Four ants (overpowered I know).
Drive: Two fast NPC-T64's.
Armour: Don't quote me on this, but I think it's Tite 3 or 5 (sorry can't remember, I iz useless. ;<).
Weapons: 16 razors.

Built it last night, has a skirt hinge with 3 40cm Alu skirts folded back underneath to serve as mediocre gut-ripper protection (not sure if this really confides with realism, please do say xD). Wheel guards are mainly there since I can't drive; it's way too fast and I end up inevitably getting flanked at some point, (and I don't want wheels being ripped off :P) although they do work nicely as stabilisation also, and stop it getting stuck on it's back.

Pros:
-Invertible
-Angled razors to help damage wedges
-Long battery life
-Can take quite a few hard knocks

Cons:
-Relatively exposed motors which generally end up getting hit once or twice
-It can be outweaponed by heavy weapon users such as Lock-nut and RED ALERT; rare but has happened.
-Whole thing's basically built on Aluminium extenders which are easy pickings should I get outweaponed.

-------------

On a side note, apologies if any of what I post is a major klone; but like I said, I haven't been around for ages, so don't know what other bots are flying around, so don't bash me too hard. *hides* :P

And also I know DSL building here follows a degree of realism which I try to follow (not having things go through batteries or anything else that isn't possible IRL), but exactly how far? For example is eFFe'ing acceptable as long as the result confides with the realism rule? I know the NPC's aren't very realistic, but it seems everyone else does it so... meh. :P

Stock Showcases / Jet's stock showcase!
« on: January 07, 2008, 11:45:19 AM »
Common guys! I wanna get this forum active again! Anyways, left RA2 for a while, so lost my touch a bit. But now i'm trying out the ol' bot building again, let's see what happens.

First up is: RipTide Toad

Coming from my themed team: 'The Creatures from beyond!" Comes RipTide Toad.
Drive: 2 RADS.
Weapon motor: HP Ztek (think that's how to spell it, correct me if i'm wrong).
Power: 1 Black battery.
Overview: Quite a destructive bot for its weight class. Can be dis-armed quite quickly though is the enemy gets around the spinning blade. The weapon itself is large compared to the rest of the robot, The extenders, motors and wheels are out in the open, but the blade doesn't normally let anyone get close without loosing a few wheels.

DSL TC Showcases / Jet's Showcase
« on: May 06, 2007, 08:48:41 AM »
Right this is my first showcase so lets see how things go...

First up I present...Evil Merry-go-round.

Weapon motor: Duel perm
Drive:Two NPC's (I think that is what they are called)
Power:Two orange batteries

It is quite lethal in the way that it beat Grog the vengefull be making it mauler dance (not by KO kind of dissapointing) But it Is quite hard to destablize provided the driver is controlling it well.

Next Up is Vortex...
My insperation for this bot came from both click beetles and Mr.Weedy's spinners...

Weapon motor:TWM3R2
Drive:Two astroflights
Batteries:Two WP836E

This bot is one of my better light weights with the disk being able to shred any bot within time. Its flaws are that is is fairly underpowered and can't last long so it has to go for the quick finish.
All comments are welcome...

Modifications / Multiplayer problem/glitch
« on: April 13, 2007, 07:41:35 AM »
hi right I was playing multiplayer with a person called kerry but anyway to cut a long story short it was taking a long time to load then he/she cut off and the match started off. his/her bot was still there but noone was controlling it. my game flipped out so but I eventually managed to get everything back to normal but when I go back on multiplayer the game that I hosted is still there! exactly the same as the one I started and it says that there is no space left so I can't get back onto my game to cancel it! what do I do...

EDIT: lol not again! sorry guys I rebooted twice and for some reason it was erased don't ask me why twice but hey I appologise another pointless and retarded topic started by me

yah, the title says it all. Personally I think that the replicas are harder because the specially made parts for that particular bot act as armour therefore making it harder to destroy.

What do you guys think? :D ...

General Support / Any Suggestions?
« on: March 17, 2007, 11:29:47 AM »
I have the dl version of RA2.
I copied my origional game so i still have my stock version. :D

anyways, I installed dsl v1.00 and I placed the files in the correct places letting it overwrite files as i went along.
when i installed it the Team hq was working fine and so were the parts, well, all except the S3 disk.
but the game crashes when i try an exhibition match that doesn't involve Nightmare. so unless i fight nightmare, exhibition is unusable. :(

so have any of you got any ideas as to what is going wrong?

EDIT: just tested again, a few of the spinners work eg: ziggo, dreadnought
minion. but still alot of them dont work!
