General Support / Returned to RA2, DSL crashing on startup
« on: February 19, 2011, 09:26:19 PM »
Hey, everyone. After a long time away form here I ran across one of many backups that I have of RA2 and immediately wanted to play it. Since I typically play DSL exclusively, my DSL backup was the first one that I tried. As soon as it started up, it crashed. I figured that something in it had gotten corrupted over time or something along those lines, so I downloaded the one from Sage's sig and that one crashes too. I'm not entirely sure what is going on.

Plastic 3
12x Razors
DSL Long Piston
2x Ants
2x Small airtanks
TWM3R Drives
396.9 KG

Personally, I think that I could do better with the weapons, but it seems to work well right now. I am also working on making it invertible, although that would probably be a total redesign of the bot.

Chatterbox / I'm back after 2 years!
« on: February 28, 2010, 10:07:53 PM »
Man, it has been a long time since I've been on these forums. Last time I saw them they were still hosted on the RA2 official site. For about 2 years i put RA2 down and never even thought about it or the great community, and then I found my old disk in a drawer and popped it in, and everything came flooding back, including the want to keep up with the community. So, what have I missed in the last 2 years i haven't been here?

(Also, my apologies if this is the wrong section, I wasn't sure where to put it so I figured that here was a good idea)

Off-Topic Discussion / Anyone know about GMax?
« on: May 05, 2007, 07:29:32 AM »
Has anyone here heard of GMax? It's almost exactly like 3DSMax. I just need to find a .gmf plugin... If anyone has a lead, let me know.

Discussion / SmartZone Help
« on: April 20, 2007, 07:12:09 PM »
This may be another stupid question, but how do you tell certain smart zones to do different things? Ex. Make a robot that is a rammer, but have a smartzone tell the motors to reverse?

Does anyone know of a program (besides the one by Dummy, can't find a program that'll do 32-bit tga's) that can edit bot skins?

General Support / Main menu glitch
« on: April 15, 2007, 08:50:11 PM »
WEll, I decided that I wanted to give stock RA2 another chance, so I renamed that folders that have DSL in them, and I copied all the files off the CD to a new folder. The game works okay, but the main menu is messed up. Help would be appreciated. Here's a pic.

« on: April 07, 2007, 09:23:07 PM »
When is the 2.1 patch for DSL due for release? I was under the impression that it was almost finished. That was a month ago. Don't ask where i heard that. I don't remember where I got it.

General Support / Making new teams
« on: April 05, 2007, 03:27:56 PM »
I can't make any new teams! I did all the bindings.py edits and the teams.txt edits and I AI'd 3 bots with RAI BETA 1.62. However, when i make a new team, the game crashes when i try to start it. S.O.S.

By the way, I'd like to give you the stuff that I put in the teams.txt and bindings.py files, but I replaced them so I could play the game.

Off-Topic Discussion / RA2 compatible 3d modeler
« on: March 27, 2007, 08:16:21 PM »
I would like to start trying to mod RA2. However, I don't have the big $$$$ for 3Dsmax. Does someone know of a free program that can be used to make components for RA2. A tutorial would be nice, too.

Discussion / I think i know how to kill the count-out
« on: March 20, 2007, 10:24:32 AM »
Have you ever been annoyed by the count-out when all that is happening is CRITICAL EMERGENCY is pinning you into a wall? Well, i thought that you may be able to mod the practice arena into normal arenas because it doesn't have a count out. I'd try it myself but I just don't have that kinda know-how just yet. This may be a lot more work that it is worth, but it is an idea for you to ponder.

« on: March 16, 2007, 07:32:38 PM »
Well, I wanted to use stock RA2 (I dunno why). And I installed it fine, and blah, blah, blah. However, when I put in the component packs that i wanted, all the stock components got doubled up! Could someone tell me how to get rid of this? Here's a pic.

Does anyone know how to create NEW AI teams? I've looked all over, but i've only found tutorials on how to replace bots in existing teams. Could someone help?

Discussion / Piglet idea
« on: March 15, 2007, 06:44:22 PM »
You know what i would love to see? A dual axle Piglet! I have so may AW, BW, and LW ideas that don't work because the 2 piglets are too far apart, or too heavy. I think that this would be a good component adea for the 2.1 patch.

Off-Topic Discussion / TGA editor
« on: March 15, 2007, 05:13:52 PM »
Well, I have a simple question. Can someone please give me a link to a free .tga (Targa graphic) editor? I want to make my own robot skins, but i have nothing that'll let me view them except for my photo viewer, and that does me no good.

P.S. NO CRAP LINKS! Someone tried me on that before. It didn't work.

Discussion / Just an idea...
« on: February 21, 2007, 05:21:19 PM »
Hey, have you ever been frustrated with trying to attach something to a round extender like the polycarbonate, aluminum, titanium, or steel extenders? Well, i was just thinking that if it was possible, to alter them so you could see the connection points, so you could put thuings on them more precisely and with less trial and error tests. Just an idea... :?
