I poke in every once in a while to see what's going on but I haven't really played in forever. I can't ever come up with anything good these days. Wish I still had all those bots I made years ago when I still had that creativity going.
I wouldn't mind getting back into it a little bit, but probably for a tournament. When actual player battles end up happening that'll probably be the start of that.

I might look into it at some point but i'd also have to get back into building things. I haven't really been a part of anything since like 2009ish or earlier so any of the meta since then is really lost on me. Though to be fair everything I used to make was also made with a ton of custom parts and stuff. But it wasn't just "make the best cheater bot" for me, it was more about making cool stuff with all the cool things lol. Wish I had pictures, some of the stuff I made was pretty ok.

I stopped playing a while back, I occasionally pick it up again but any knack I had for building anything is long gone. I feel like my interest partially died back when the PC I had most of my stuff on croaked, though I have that things HDD still around and even though we formatted it and used it again I wonder if I can recover some things from it. Won't hurt to try.
But honestly I just got bored building stuff on my own and no one to play with due to dialup internet and no one really playing online. If we ever had the multiplayer figured out i'd love to give that a shot at some point. But I don't really have much interest in building a bot just to let the AI drive it. I'm about playing a game not just building stuff.

Is there a reason the stipulations aren't posted in these threads too? Having to jump over to the other thread to find out what the rules were seems stupid imo.

If I can find my old files I have a dumb bot I made that was essentially a box in the air with wheels on red birds that were attached to servos. I made it with the idea of a dynamic drive system in mind where I could go sideways with it (and be stylish not practical) but I discovered this oddity. It makes sense after you think about it but yea it's weird. Turns out just angling the motors 45 degrees all the way around (maybe less depending on what you're going for of course) makes a bot that can travel any which way you want it to.
One thing I don't think I tested was if you can lift the wheels up using this method, I don't think so but it could be possible depending on how you do it. But I think the game just checks to see if a wheel is touching the floor. Would be interesting to mess with though for like 5 minutes.

<RA1 video>
Now that's a track I haven't heard in years. As far as Stock vs DSL, I like both for what they are in each version though no offence to the guys that made it I kinda feel like the stock soundtrack ages better. Also kinda hurts a couple of the sounds in the DSL music that i'm fairly certain are FL Studio presets, as someone who's dabbled in music making (and desire to get better and yadda yadda, procrastination and stuff) they stick out like a sore thumb. It's been a while so they might all be presets, but specifically one of them has to be one of the synths it gives you when you selected the techno template in FL 7 or around that time. They don't have that template in FL 12

I want to say that was AW from AceUplink that tweaked the hidden items (Forklift, Wood armor, etc). But none of them work because there is no code for them, only menu graphics. The forklift is the only one with an in-game render and attachment points, but since the game has basically no physics the forklift doesn't do anything.
Sounds pretty correct lol. I think I was able to download it at one point but couldn't get it working. I don't know if I still have it somewhere though. (Actually it might have just been instructions to modify some text files now that I think of it) But that information is either burried somewhere in my archived files or on this harddrive I have kicking around that might still have all my good RA2 stuff on it if I ever get around to getting some cables to plug it in with. That's if the drive still works or a reformat that might have happened (can't remember) eventually wrote over those sectors. I'd already have to dive in with recovery software.

It's been a while but the most I remember seeing was someone made a tweak that made a few of the hidden items available. There's this forklift weapon that was never used cause the physics of the game don't allow it to work. And they never coded a way for it to work or something. There's a couple other components that are hidden I think but none of them really work or are worth trying to get ingame. I don't remember the tweak or if it's still around somewhere, but it's really not all that worth it tbh. I think the most I ever saw was a load of skins that are probably lost to the depths of time.

And Scorpio we can agree that the game is pretty much dead
Makes me rather angry that I turned around and bought it again (after refunding it) because I thought they were gonna get their sh** together. I want my $20 back they don't deserve $20.
It's your fault. They showed absolutely no signs of fixing the game but you put your faith in them based on hopes and feelings instead of evidence and track record.
Nah i'm angry at myself for buying it again. They didn't have much of a track record outside of somehow tripping and falling face first ten feet back from the starting line but it looked like with the first patch or two they were gonna get back on their feet and try to catch up. I bought it again hoping i'd see them through to the finish except they never made the turn and decided to run right off the track. That's why i'm angry.

I honestly bust out laughing at the two stacked Tombstones. That was good.

What do you mean? Usernames from over 13 years ago are the best! Amirite?
Of course. Joined the original RA2 forums Dec 19th 2003 myself. Had the name for a year or so before that though, but it was supposed to be for a character. Ended up with this name because my emails for my confirmation emails never showed up for my first two accounts. Very unoriginal names of "Zoid" and "Shield Liger"... I was like 11 or whatever at the time. Got banned for a time because that got found out, but there's a loophole; having parental permission/ supervision got around the under 13 rule. I think the permission part was supposed to be notarized, not that I knew that at the time, and I certainly didn't have my mom watching everything I did online. Meh.

OK, this is really cool.
So all it really takes is some method of transferring player inputs and of streaming? Are there alternate programs that can be used to send key inputs to other computers? I think discord can screen share (or at least I saw a teaser released for screen share posted at the end of December).
Also if two players want to use the same keys then I think autohotkeys can be used to get around that.
I don't know if there's any software out there that has the low latency that Nvidia's Gamestream has but there could be. But yea that's basically all that's happening. I don't know if there's a way to use the same keybinds though. Depends on how it sends the control data. Doing this you could probably play other games like you could possibly play emulated split screen games like this. That's a bit off topic but i'm just trying to portray how versatile this is.

how bad is the rubberbanding?
Should be nonexistant with gamestream actually. Since what you're doing is no real different than watching a Twitch stream (with much less latency of course) and sending control inputs to the computer streaming it what you see will be what is happening on the PC streaming the game. You're limited to the computer itself and the combined network capabilities of the host's connection, the clients connection, and whatever garbage happens in between. So so long as the PC running the game is pretty decent and you both have good enough internet connections it should be fine. That's cool that someone's testing this out this way. I've never used gamestream like this before but I have used it with my Nvidia Shield. I haven't used it over too great a distance but I can say that I was getting my car worked on one time and with the internet they had I was playing GTA V with no problems at all. And at home i've played Titanfall with it and done just as well as I would have sitting at my computer. There is a tiny bit of input lag that in shooters feel like you weigh a bit (making the Titan portions of Titanfall feel less twitch shootery but a bit more what you'd expect a mech to feel like) but it's all still entirely playable for most games. I wouldn't claim you can be a CS:GO pro with it, but you can still be mildly competitive if you wanna play while taking a dump.

Yea didn't know that at the time but I did want to try it and never did. I wouldn't have gotten the few updates we did get that made it a bit more playable if I had done that though. Kinda funny that the game was so unfinished that it didn't check Steam if you even owned it. GG

I love how the only posts that happen in like a month or so are ones talking about how bad the game is. Really wish I hadn't re-bought the game after I refunded tbh.

I don't wanna be that guy but I saw this video of Scrap Mechanic while looking for Season 2 of Battlebots earlier. It looks pretty interesting and the physics looks pretty alright. Just thought i'd post it since we were talking about robot games. I know this isn't exactly a robot combat game, but it looks like it's possible within the bounds of the game.

Extreme Destruction. Worst graphics, best physics.
Hope you're joking. That game looked like it was exactly like Arenas of Destruction and that game had some sort of sh** tier physics somewhere between RA1's nonexistant physics and RA2's physics.
You're thinking of the PC version, not the GBA version I was implying...
Ah ok gotcha. I forgot that was a thing... and I still own a copy.

I did. Was doing a bit of testing earlier to see if it would be possible to chain motors and have a faster drive. The short answer yes, the should be long but not as long as it should be answer is eh while it works it doesn't really do much. Also was going to test using Zteks and carsteering to see if there's a happy balance between the two to make a fast but still skid steering bot. The answer to that is more complex and my simple testing wasn't really enough. Both axles aren't the same height and without a TON of fine tuning it never will be. But they're close. I managed to have a car steering in the middle and 4 zteks in the corners (still positioned normally though) and it managed to do both just fine. I used the medium tech wheels (or whatever they're called) for all tests. There was a test where, so I could get them out of the way quickly, I put the zteks on pairs of baseplate anker, tbar, and extender mounts. I'm not entirely sure what was causing it but that caused my bot to just start bouncing all over the place.
I'll do more testing later but my game crashed and had to restart my PC due to the annoying continuous stuttering that i've never been able to find a fix for other than restarting my PC. Thank God I have a case with a reset switch too because last time that happened it didn't go away until I hit that switch. Restarting, killing the power, unplugging, nothing worked.
