Note to self: gotta learn to build a decent wedge
put a small wedge on a green snapper or ddt

also e-wedges aren't too good as armor because they only have about 400 hp

Thanks for the tips.

unless you spam casters instead. :P

No, at least not yet. I mainly dabble in stock. In any case, I'm still a greenhorn.

Feeling so inspired after seeing your bots. Real sick designs, man. Hope to see more awesomeness in the future!

I was trying to make a defensive bot that could survive an encounter with the Starcore AIs but unfortunately it failed misarably, abeit spectacularly.

Oh bugger it's been a while huh? Sorry for not posting for so long, I've been busy with Uni and all (Assignments kill any free time you have).

Here's a bot I've been toying around with. It's more of an experiment on armor placement rather than on making a killer bot. It's performance in the arena is less than decent though.

This is WuGwai (乌怪) 0.2, heavyweight dual 'drum' spinner/wedge hybrid

Rear

Front

Side

Under

Internals

Stacked 12Vs, DSA. The N-12s were more for aesthetics than anything else (I like big wheels). Also the rear wedges are held in place with base extenders axle glitched into the wheels.

Thanks Jack Daniels! I guess that's the reason to start a showcase in the first place, isn't it? hahaha

Hopefully I'll be able to improve my bot building skills with all the suggestions given. Thanks again everyone!

@Clickbeetle I'll try that out. (Btw thanks for the beetlebros site. It really helped a lot )

@J Is it the wrong way around? I assumed the sharp edge was the cutting edge of the weapon. But in any case as I mentioned earlier the blades has since been replaced with razor spikes.

Thanks for the comments, guys!

That's what I call a Triple-hybrid...

I wouldn't call it a "true" Triple Hybrid since the Samurai Swords could barely reach past the face spinners, and are mainly there if I need to self-right my bot. I might try to make a true triple hybrid based on this design in the future, though.

Pretty good for a newcomer. You should rotate those extenders on the tribars 90 degrees, so when you attach the irons they'll hit at the same time. Also razor tips would be better weapons to use for the hammers instead of samurai swords and blades.
rotate the irons 90o

Rotated the irons as suggested. And Virus Bomb I just tried out the razor tip configuration and thing is I can't make it effective since the extender can't reach past those face spinners...plus the damage done is negligible so I think I'll keep the swords for the srimech since they have a longer reach (Plus they give a sort of insect-like aesthetic to the bot). But I did change the blade for a razor & an extender, going to test out this configuration.

Neways I had an idea for a different type of bot as I went to bed last night...going to try it out and see if it works.

Just tried it out. Not bad for a one-man job :D

However I do find it a bit glitchy. The bot seems to react weirdly with the railing between the lanes and I had the bot actually go right through it, thought it got flipped over eventually.

Personally, I'd work on the bot's movement physics. Not sure whether it's difficult with regards to this engine but I think it would be amongst the first things I would do if I were designing a game like this.

But all in all, keep up the good work! :thumbup

Shuriken 0.8 (proto stage)

Basically just rebuilt the bot from scratch, hope I didn't overdo it this time .

-Drive & snapper configuration basically unchanged. Ramming spikes changed for "drillers" (Is there a proper name for those?).
-Added Srimech and changed the protection to EMERGENCY's flippers. Used Samurai swords because why not? (Plus I find them useful for giving an extra punch if I happen to pin my opponent)
-Uses DSA armor & stacked 12Vs

Innards

Anything I should change/improve?

Thx for the tips, ty4er. But to DSA it means I'd have to redo the components again...:dead: oh well it can't be helped...

Will see if I can fit a third and (maybe) a fourth spinner. Perhaps I need to cut down on that rammer assembly first.

Alright, I think I managed to put something decent together so it's time to face the critics :)

SHURIKEN 0.7 (proto stage)

Ugly, but it works. It's not final yet, still have stuff I wanted to add on but I thought I should show what I've got before I go any further.
Uses aluminum armor

Ramming spike assembly is stacked thanks to snapper loading

View of the innards, nothing spectacular. The Y-Connectors were because I planned to put a srimech but moving the snappers made the wheels snap back in place. Will probably fix that when I revise the design.

Battleshot

Not too bad. At least I could defeat some of starcore's bots, for once :D

Any thoughts/suggestions?
