o hai thar
All of the burst motors can flip opponents. It's just that some motors are better used in certain weight classes. A single BSG when used on LWs and MWs work wonders when paired with another weapon system. Pure flippers usually have 2 BSGs on a LW, 2 small/large JXs on MWs, and a beta on HWs. Using a single BSG on a HW will get you nowhere. Also, make sure your motors are adequately powered to ensure full flipping force, otherwise the weight spent to get that motor is wasted. :D
As for the Havok-y beta, you're probably using a geared beta. Use the other version since that one's more reliable.
I'm using the spring-loaded beta which seems to work fine - the geared beta motor seems pretty useless for flippers. I'm using plenty of batteries to get the maximum power out of the spring-loaded beta - the problem only occurs sometimes when used as a self-righter, and it's happened on a lot of bots that i've built (i keep creating and deleting a lot of different bots while i'm experimenting with things)

Hey
I'm a little confused about flipper weapons. So far the only burst motors i have been able to use with any success as a flipper were the large JX motor and the beta motor. but the JX doesn't really get opponents off the ground and the beta seems to create havoc explosions when used as a srimech.
However i noticed that a lot of the AI/prebuilt bots have smart zones - is this anything to do with it?
i tried using smart zones and it didn't make a whole load of difference - can anyone explain to me what smart zones actually do and how to use them? i can't seem to find an explanation anywhere.

Backdoor trojans are lethal, get rid of it immediately. And where did you download the patch? Maybe it's something else that you've downloaded at the same time.
If all else fails, delete RA2 from your hard drive completely, and start over from the links in Sage's Sig. That's how I got my Stock back on track. Kept crashing whenever PREHISTORIC got involved, damn thing.
norton got rid of it - but it definitely came from the patch which i downloaded from this site. actually, norton just deleted the patch file - i wasn't downloading anything else at the time.

Yes, I've had this problem before. Put your Robot Arena 2 folder some other than Program Files. Like My Documents(where I keep just about everything). It should then let you apply the patch. This should also fix up the scrambled menu icons. Hope that helps
Thanks - would i need to re-install, or just move the the robot arena 2 folder into my documents? another thing, i think i should point out that the download for this patch has some kind of virus - norton gets angry everytime i try to open it - "backdoor.graveyard" or something.

Hi
I suspect this is more of a windows 7 related issue but here's my problem:
I downloaded and unzipped the no CD 1.0 patch into the robot arena folder as directed in the tutorials, and i can run the program that creates the patch, but every time i click to apply the patch it gives me a "cannot open file: access denied" windows message.
I'm using windows 7 home premium and the administrator user account but i think it might be something to do with the RA2 folder being located in the "program files" folder which seems to not allow anything to be changed once its installed.
Other problems i'm having with the stock RA2 are the options not saving (once again, perhaps this is something to do with the file location?), and the menu icons being scrambled.
