Well, initial reactions.

1. Bot building is a pain.  But, to be honest, building in RA2 was a pain until I got used to it, so I'll keep playing around and hopefully it'll get better.
2. The camera is a bit wonky for me.
3. I like the arenas
4. Anybody notice the SFTW clone yet?

Hmmm...wondering what kind of Dreidel I should try in this.  You know I've got to.

Can't wait.  looks like I'll even have a few days off when it's released.  awesome

So, it's becoming painfully obvious that I'm never going to have any time for anything RA2 related, except building the occasional bot for fun.  So, I officially release the 'rights'  to any of my tournament ideas I've had. anything from this thread...

Survival of the Fittest, and especially Our Replicas Are Different.  Have fun guys.

It bounces around for a bit, but self rights itself surprisingly quick and reliably from most positions.    Sometimes, it will get stuck on it's side, but even then the chassis and hammers are still spinning. usually one hit will be enough for it to be upright and functioning properly

Because I had to....

This one was much easier to build than the original Doom Dreidel. Got the balance on the first go round.

all right, peer pressure, I'll sign up for a backup brigade thingy.  I make less than zero gaurantees that I can pull anything impressive off, though

So, I know I finished the Seven Deadly Sins, but there was one that I never really liked.....Pride.   One, I didn't like making it a lightweight, and two, I sacrificed a lot of the theme to make it at least a decent tournament bot.   In the words of the good Doctor....No more.

DISCLAIMER:  This was ONLY made to fit the theme.  Not looking for improvement advice...I know what I did wrong.

What would the bot-Incarnation of Pride be?   Basically, screw your rules, I can kick your ass without them.  So it is (ironically) with shame I present the newly updated Pride.

Let's play spot the problems.
1. Underweight.
2. Piglet drive
3. Aluminum armor
4. Bad battery choice.
5. Wrong control board
6. Tons of empty space.
7. Two totally useless razors packed inside the chassis
8. Previously mentioned razors attached with an omni- extender thing.
9. Ballast
10. Bad armor plate in the back of the bot.
11. Whatever those teeth are for weapons.

I basically looked over Nary's efficient building guide and did the opposite.   Can it 'kick your ass' with all these problems?  Probably not, but it was kinda fun building THIS bad of a bot and it can (barely) beat quite a few of the standard DSL AI bots.

I like how you're doing the whole round in one video. much easier to watch.

Cool stuff all around.  I really really like the look of Tempest.

And oh hey Yoda's back lurking somewhere.

Quite temporarily. I gotta get back to the grind very soon.  But cheers, good to see everybody.

True, some people do.  I've done it myself, as well.   But that's up to the entrant and doesn't put any more work on the host.

Control or lack of control over the bracket doesn't change the fact that there is an advantage to be had in knowing what the other entrants are.   Even if it's just a perceived advantage and nothing else, I can still see people not entering until they see more of the other entrants....which, again, slows entries down.

And besides, when done right, the host himself has no control over the brackets either since they are (or at least should be) randomized.

Gotta disagree with these.  Especially the showing bots as they're received for two main reasons...

1. More work for hosts, and there's already enough workload for them,
2. Entries will slow down as people wait for others first to gain an advantage by devising their strategy to beat what they've seen.

I've already stated why I don't see a need for the other rule in your other topic.  tl;dr version, not that big of a deal.

While it might not be specifically stated that a host can't change their entry,  I take it as implied, myself.  There's no other reason to have the host show their bot, other than to keep them from changing it later.  The host can gain too much advantage from seeing all the entrants, then entering a bot that's going to work well against a majority of the entrants.  That's also why I make Ogre make his bot before I show him any other entrant.   Granted, a host is slightly at a disadvantage by having to show their entry while nobody else does, but really it's not that big of a deal.  If someone entered a bot specifically to beat the host bot, they're probably not going to do to well against the rest.

Personally, the rule (implied or explicit) doesn't bother me in the slightest.  I don't ever want to win my own tournament anyway.  If I do, I do, it happens.  But I'd rather it be another entry that wins.  So, any disadvantage I gain from this is just fine by me.

As far as I'm concerned, you're right.  It isn't specifically a rule, so you technically can change it.  up to you.

My two cents for a one cent price.
