I do not have faith that this game can be fixed; I am not a programmer myself, but the flaws in this game seem far too significant to be something that can be patched up in a single go and I don't think the developers have the funding/resources needed to continuously work on this game and release tons of patches and fixes. Robot Arena 3 is probably going to be a critical and financial failure and unless the community modding scene can do something about it I doubt this game is going to catch on and we'll all probably still continue to play RA2.

I share these exact same thoughts....

PS... It's nice to see you dude :)

No one but the devs actually KNOWS if it is indeed a sh**ty "finished" game released for a cash grab, or that they actually have been rushed to release something that is obviously in the very early stages of development and shouldn't have been released that early because it was quite obviously not ready for release.

And we will most likely not know it unless a trusted source leaks some info.

....as I previously stated, NEVER put a date on something unless it's already near finished. At least that way you have a solid couple of weeks to test the hell out of it. This release is the equivalent of bringing an automobile to market without passenger seats, a dash board, brakes or a windshield and simply telling customers "hey, it'll get you down the road".

what did you expect?  AAA quality game?
:dumb)
The irony of using the icon resembling a 30+ year old game that is more playable than the game we are discussing. +5 internets #pacman

Roll up, roll up! Get your pitchforks here! We've got pitchforks, we've got torches, we've got everything required to burn a small budget studio to the ground! Gather 'round, everybody!
I think most people want this thing to be good and for Gabriel, inc. to do well. If they released this saying, "We're going to need some more time to get this game right, but here's a glimpse of what we're trying to achieve," the response wouldn't be overwhelmingly negative. The criticism would be constructive instead of rants.

As it stands, they presented the game as a finished product with some minor bugs. That clearly isn't the case if such basic things like wedges aren't possible.
Bottom line is they shouldn't have put a release date on it. The cardinal rule of developing any product and bringing it to market is: You only get 1 chance to make a first impression.

Considering how many people likely got refunds and the crushingly negative reviews I think this may be a hole too deep to dig out of for this developer. they would have been MUCH better off building a beta version and releasing it to a handful of the great members of this group to dissect. Instead they cobbled together a bucket of "meh" and now the reviews will forever be a scarlet letter on this corner of the steam store, even if they actually fix the game they can't make those reviews and negative scores go away. This misstep is solely on them, there is NO WAY that they thought that that this would be a "passible" build, it's legitimately unplayable.

Consider my balls thoroughly kicked.

First ACAMS, and now RFS?

Fuking hell... Everyone is coming out of the woodwork to relive the days of RA2, with this game.

...

Incredible.
That was my goal. With the game being in such a crummy state, I'm thinking it might be best to just wait. (Maybe I'll reinstall RA2.)

I'm in the same boat..

I have sat back and watched the abomination called RA3 rolled out to well deserved thumbs down across the board. The developers should literally be ashamed of themselves for "releasing" this "thing". I wouldn't be NEARLY as upset if the devs were not actively asking questions and interacting with this forum/userbase. They listened to NOTHING that was suggested and in all actually took elements away from the previous release that actually made it worth playing. This "game" (if you even want to call it that) is an utter embarrassment to the franchise and I HIGHLY doubt they will bother fixing it.

All they had to do was simple.... Take RA2, enhance graphics engine, add weapons and other components and make a more intuitive multiplayer matchmaking system. Done, finished, great game.

/rant

Anyways I was hopeful that this game would rejuvenate the RA community, unfortunately I have no desire to "endure" this release, it is more frustrating than enjoyable in it's current state.

I guess it's time to dust off Deep Blue for another rodeo eh?

Perhaps the Steam engine can handle Project:Trinity this time? ;)

Not very far with Starcore, but nicely against gigafrost AI. The AW's would do good on tabletop with Starcore, however.

You've already AI'd some?

It's awesome to see how far some of these designs have come over th past few years...

I know nothing about how to AI, I was curious if someone could map a few of these bots, I'd like to see where they stand against some of the present day "heavy hitters".

Well folks I said one day I would finally do it. That day is today.

I located my old broken PC (or so I thought) and ripped the drives out, I purchased an external housing and crossed my fingers.....

I managed to pull all the information directly off the teams folders, sadly my reserves folder did not make it. I prob had another 50+ designs in that collection :blackeye_smily:.

BUT.... with this download you will get all my signature bots: DEEP BLUE (1-4, LW version, and never before seen prototype), THRUST series, ANT weights, the original PROJECT: TRINITY and MANY MANY MANY MORE amazing bots.

I'm glad I can finally share my creations with the RA2 community....

ENJOY EVERYONE! :gunz:

That's right kiddos - the Internet is not really SRS BIZNEZZ (which was a catchphrase that wasn't even around in 2003), it's only Internet. :P

I came out of the woodwork because a little birdy told me that "someone from RA2 history came back to GTM... and ratted on you in his first post", and at first I was like "haha it's COLONMAN/Chexmix (COOL MAN aka Technex) isn't it?" and my buddy said "no, it's MAD actually". And then I was like, "oh... well crap he hated the heck out of me :(".

I'd battle ya (Thumperizer V Deep Blue) but I've gone through two computers since AceUplink, bro - RA2 is no longer installed on my hard drive. I backed up my files onto a few CDs, but they're in storage across town from where I live. Collecting dust. :(

I still don't have a decent Internet connection six years later anyways. :P

hahah, I'll take a rain-check... but i'll hold you to it. :-D

Glad to hear you are doing well, I don't wish you were eaten by wolves nor hit by a bus. Although I disagree, the intertubez have always been serious business.

I guess we can just bury this hatchet?

PS.... I go by "T2" now. hah

Well howdy doody, looks like you're still alive and kicking - and **** you too buddy. :) It's not MY fault that I took it upon myself to collaborate with some incredibly intelligent and like-minded modders of the game to lay down a format to build upon the game in numerous ways. Myself and my "cronies" created AI expansions that, at the time, revolutionized the Robot Arena 2 modding community.

AceUplink managed to make a BattleBots AI pack (extremely well modded I give you that much, it was beautiful) that ranked up there with "nice to look at but goddamn impossible". What did AU do for the community, really? You all released some modifications but nothing that really gave way to build upon things in the way that myself, Disturbed, Goose, and Starcore decided to take further. In fact, in an ironic kind of way, you led us all together. You can claim a piece of that credit for yourself because without AceUplink there probably would not have been any RFS AI Pack, Starcore AI Pack, or even the DSL mod to blow the game wide open.

If it gives you any solace, Radio F (which began in 1995) disbanded in 2008. I retired from RFSHQ in June of that year to pursue my life where I left off when I hopped on the RA2 bandwagon. I have gone back to being a furry/scaly writer and artist and found a special Mrs. RFS to share the happiness with. I've also ditched the "Radio F Software" moniker and I go by "Dracophile" now - a username that took me 7 years to replace the "temporary" RFS with, but one that personally fits me a lot better. You have full permission to laugh at me if you will because I know I deserve it, but I've done a ****ton of growing up since AceUplink. I rubbed a lot of sh** in your collective faces for no real reason and I am most likely wholly responsible for completely ****ing your website up in every way imaginable. I realize it got to the point where registration was basically blocked off because I had about 3 new accounts a week that went under the radar.

Yes, I did start RFSHQ to completely and absolutely ruin AceUplink. I was out to "do better than you", and that's exactly why we opened on February 12th, 2004 - your domain's "roll over" date (we became the comedy site on May 9th, 2004). When the site opened I was looking to hoard everyone who was banned or disgruntled with AceUplink so that we could build a community that would out-class yours. A little while into the RFSHQ timeline I realized that this was pretty ****ing stupid and I stopped. RFSHQ was an experiment, a joke, and some strange project that took on a life of its own and perpetuated itself on a conglomeration of mostly negative things. The proof is in the pudding, RFSHQ tried way too hard to be like Something Awful and it pretty much blew apart. I created the website with hate in mind and when I wanted to make something out of it I was always reminded of the ill-intent that made the place.

Things could have probably ended a heck of a lot better, but from the beginning I kind of felt like I wasn't wanted there in the first place once I had seen that AW and the others were like "wow ANOTHER mod, and it's THIS guy?" Kind of disheartening to an extent. Sim, AW, and TDS could have handled my resignation a little better than they did, and I probably could have done without throwing a complete bitch fit on the forums that lasted Nth months. It was a cluster**** on both sides, if I knew now what I knew then.

I hold no grudge with you, MAD, or anybody else at AceUplink; but I realize that you probably would still like to see me eaten alive by wolves or something and I honestly don't blame you. The reasoning behind my demeanor at AceUplink is both lengthy and personal, and I'll spare you the insightful monologue (that I'd rather not be public information anyways).

I'm sorry.

PS: I apologize for ****ing up your telephone, something you wanted to blame on me when it wasn't actually my fault in the first place - but that's a conversation from 2003 and water under the bridge. I work for Miniclip.com now and I have since been harassed and threatened by troublemakers who see ME as a "Nazi" and have my contact information and haven't been shy about calling me and saying bizarre things. What goes around comes around, I got what was coming to me.

PPS: We inherited the download database from HackerX's and Nanaman's RA-Reborn. Anything they did to the files was their own idea, we just took up hosting them. We didn't strip anything from any tutorials.

PPP?S: Don't call me Justin, Anthony. Really. :(

P4S: Can I just say "snipe1040" and we can all just laugh and forget about this? :)

LOL snipe1040....

hahah, It's all good Radio (I wont call you Justin :approve:)

We've both got our own lives now... I'm actually very impressed that you addressed this personally. I hope this can maybe be an example to the younger kids on here that e-fights are kind dumb. Back then I took all of it really personally, kinda silly in retrospect, AU was a group of my friends. We spent ALOT of time experimenting w/ everything the game had to offer and threw days of our lives into it, kinda like how crazy kids are about W.O.W. now.

Maybe we can dust off some bots and go at it once for ole' time sake... what ya think? :gunz:....

Wow man, those are sweeeeet. It's funny I never stacked or any of that non-sense, I was so anal about my designs I always skinned openings in the body so I wouldn't have random weapons jutting out... hahah

Hopefully I can finally get DEEP BLUE out to the public.
