Good idea to make a topic about that. I'm ready for some metal mashing. I just created a room on internet. I got the 1.3 patch.

Back before the RA2 forum went down the tubesd and GTM became popular, there was a group of us that still played online quite often, including InfiniteInertia, Sage (The RA2 Wizard), and myself. We were basically the last people who played online. I was afraid that my hosting abilities had dissapeared with the loss of my old computer, but that is not the case. I can still make servers now, so I am open to play online basically anytime if you IM me on msn or aim.

Another note: Please, everybody who wants to play online, consider getting an instant messaging program. I reccomend MSN, its what most people who play use. Posting on a forum just isn't as reliable as an IM program.

There were some nice matches, but after Cuda left, I didnt see any servers up... and if I tried to host, no one would be able to see it. Its proven by my freinds, no matter what the game is they cant see my servers, unless playing lan or trough hamachi.

Yep. Venko opened a server that i can see but cant join.
As always my LW got owned. but the last fight was good. especially when my ram accidentally destroyed Venko's MW HS. And my MW had some nice air time too when attacking Your Doom. hehe

And i'd mistaken Sung's bot for your own... first. Huh, I was having fun ripping it's BIG wheels, this was a hammer bot with unpowered sawblades on axles fixed to square extenders, kinda SnS.
I owned Bladez's very basic HS simply by flipping him, and ripped off a few wheels off his spearbot.
He was surprised that i could see with the picture "look guys, you dont know what he'll do".... answer by me "its a simple 6 piston spear bot" and he was amazed. lol.
But at least if we could attract some new builders to the forum...

Nobody plays online much any more. You need to have MSN, or AIM messenger or agree to battle somebody from here.......maybe somebody will want to battle online, but because of lag most people are entering AI tournaments.

You need to get an online LAN program called Hamachi. Then, once you learn how to use the basics of it, join the network called RA2 United 2. The password is connectme.

You should know that Somebody and I were in a netgame a few days ago, and DIDN'T use Hamachi, mainly because it crashes on my computer. I set up a private server and he connected via IP address. We were on for about an hour total, until Sombody's computer crashed for whatever reason. We did this at a perfect 30 FPS, with no lag wahtsoever. YOU DO NOT NEED HAMACHI TO PLAY A NETGAME, that is just one of the ways. Connecting by IP is probably a better one.
Oh, and I'd fight you, Inf, but I'd get slaughtered. >_>

I actually Lagalot in multi, so last try i made a deathmatch, played against Somebody's last showcased HW VS 'with my AIed Hope No More 1 and it OWNED him.
Still, he says my AI bot messed up the match...

Condor- there was almost no lag, a little blip here and there. Also Naryar, my game quit, and I swear to god that I did not fight you, if the bot moved by itself, that would be, weird.

I believe you... i saw my bot driving perfectly. But if ACAMS said the AI messes up the game...
This sucks, I'm going to be worthless in multi, seeing how much I lag (excepted perhaps on lightweights on the low lag arena as Wham and I did).

Me and Condor33 play alot using IP addresses. We used a combined... probably 10000 kgs. of weight in two SHW fights, and the lag wasn't that bad.

What's an IP adress exactly?
IP stands for Internet Protocol, but it's really just a type of serial number that distinguishes your computer from every other computer in the world. You need IPs to set up LAN games in RA2.

If you want my advice, forget it. Online matches are more or less dead now, and I hear it lags like heck.
But I can't blame you for trying, so I downloaded a program called Hamachi that has servers for people to use online. But all the servers that I know of are full. So I've given up online stuff.
If you want to show off your bots though, make a showcase for them. If you want to fight someone elses bots, download an AI pack, or have a look at the torneys.

Normal RA2 multiplayer mode seems to be working again!
I say this because I went on Internet mode and played against two dutch or german guys (their bots were waaaay below SC1 level but the lag made it quite a fair fight)
And there seems to be a "1.2" Battle Royal going on right now, close to the UK! I doubt it's v1.2 though, naturally.
I'm not using Hamachi or anything else.

While i was battling joeblo online with dsl, I was gutripping his shell spinner, but I wasnt scoring any points, so i put him on the wall. I celebrated by going round in circle, then randominly, this happened:

for some reason my game loaded once Doom started celebrating so I had no control over my robot when he was attacking and he didnt see my attacks coming when he was celebrating :-D

if you play on somebody else's server the host will have next to no lag and the "visitor will have a truck load"
so if TriTon was on 090901's Hamatchi Server, 090901 would have no lag and TriTon will have a heap
the only time I have had it with neither play having lag was when the game's didn't load synchronized as seen previously in this thread, Doomkiller thought he had won when my game had not loaded resulting in him randomly loosing parts as I destroyed his robot while he couldn't see anything

DSL seems to be more temperamental then stock... if something in the game doesn't match up with someone else it will result in a crash, clean stock is the easiest and best way to fight online

well, MKB, please listen, they might look cool, but they never do damage, if you wanna use saws, use them in DSL. If you wanna get better, take there advice, that's why it took me 2 months to build a good HS, because I never listend to them.

I actually found this a little bit ago. Me and Trovaner tested it out, worked exactly the same as hamachi in terms of lag. It had a cool interface, but there was some problems in getting connected and what not. not worth spending all the time to make an account and stuff.

Most likely, you've just setup DSL wrong.
There's a link on sage's signature that has a free and ready to play download of DSL so you don't have to mess around sorting it out.

I remember before I knew about Hamachi I played RA2 and ended up playing with random people from Brazil, those days were funny....:D Hamachi is simply easier sort of. It is not the only way to play RA2 online.
At least learn to spell Hamachi before you babble about it.

If I can get hamachi working, then I might be able to compete. I would like to compete with a machine like Dantomkia or Second Sentinel but you would have see what I use. In terms of spinners, SHW Mikado would be my choice!
P.S. Can anyone tell me how to create a new server for RA2 DSL-TC?
