Since several people wanted to know this, I made a thread.
Step one: go to this site (http://whatsmyip.org/) and get your IP address
Step two: get someone to fight with
Step three: Give them said address (don't give it to anyone else, people could give you a denial of service attack)
Step four: Go to RA2 multiplayer, click host
Step five: Change connection speed to "LAN" and turn off password
Step six: have opponent go into RA2, go to multiplayer, hit join by IP
Step seven: Have him/her type in your IP
Step eight: MORTAL KOM-BOT:biggrin:

Wow... this is really cool. Thanks Condor.
-
Wow, thanks a mil.

Never thought that this would get so much attention (and I was wondering how you did it too). Nice idea that you came up with this.
-
Hey guys, what the heck is going on with :]:]:] stuff?
Edit: Ohh...
-
Yeah, what is that? Is it an april fools gag by the admins?
-
Hey, they forgot to replace the word lag with :)s. It is RA2 lingo after all.

Lag is actually Lingo in other games with online play. You know, "lagging behind"?
-
Lagedout,Lagspike,Lagattack,justsaying.
-
yes. unfortunately.
-
But it is still lingo.

Is that your new catchphrase?
-
dots in words that are n.ot allowed works better, makes it easier to read.
back on topic, i'll have to test this for la.g sometime.
-
Is that your new catchphrase?
nope. It's just the correct answer to a lengthy/random/confused/stupid post.
-
Condor, do you set the server to "LAN only" or "internet server"? Reier and I tried to do this and it did n.ot work for us. Any suggestions?
-
saywhatihavenoclueohwaityourenottalkingtomesorry
-
It has to be LAN only, or else the game will try to get onto the (nonexistant) master server at Gamespy.
-
ATTENTION! POSSIBLE FIX FOR NON WORKING LAN MULTIPLAYER!
Many computers today have dynamic IP addresses. This means that after certain intervals the computer will change your IP address randomly though a set range. Sometimes it's every couple of hour, sometimes it's after months. If the IP has changed between the time you give your opponent your IP and the time you join the game, you will get an error and will be disconnected! Here's how to check for dynamic IP
Open a cmd window, and type the command:
ipconfig /all
Look at the results. If the line Dhcp Enabled has a Yes beside it, you have a dynamic IP address. You'll also see at the bottom of the output when the lease was obtained and when it expires. This is when your machine got the IP address, and when it will be getting a new one from the DHCP server.
If the line Dhcp Enabled has a No beside it, you have a static IP address./
This is a huge pain in the arse to change, but it can be done fairly quickly. I'm not going to post instructions here because there is are whole sites on how to do it for every router and modem combination in existence. They're pretty easy to find. Some routers will allow you to change between dynamic and static IPs through their config, but I don't know about all of them.
Good luck with the multiplayer.

So, have other people besides condor tried this out. I am hearing alot of yippie's without any confirmations.
-
Didn't we try that a 100 years ago and found that if you are firewalled by your router, you are still screwed and lag is the same........I KNOW I tested it with several people back in the day.
-
Most likely. Same reason as to why I can't host without Hamachi anymore: I got a new computer with a firewall and a router.
-
Well it works for me and C33.
-
Since several people wanted to know this, I made a thread...
Hmm.. weird. That didn't work for me and LRA2 yesterday. Firewall problems exist still I guess?
-
I had a Firewall on.
