« on: June 18, 2008, 09:47:45 AM »
i'm not sure if this should go here or not but anyway. i recently got a wireless router from my uncle for free so i could go on my wii online. i'm not too great with stuff like that and was wondering how to set it up. i think i need to get a 9v powercable from somewhere but i don't want to buy one untill i know what to do with it.

thanks for your help

if you have cable, just use the attachment cord that should come with the router and connect it to the cable box thing. then just power everything up. easy.

why would it matter if anyone else used it? its just like when you go to a wifi hotspot. but, i think you can set up a number. i didnt, but its your choice.

Yes it does matter, and you should protect your wireless with a password. Without that, anybody can use your wireless and this can cut down the speed. Else it is possible (even though, some knowledge and some hacker software is needed), somebody hackes in your computer and steals your passwords or messes up your system. They are called wardrivers.

newer laptops have built in wireless, but for a desktop you have to get a wireless card and hook it up. just get someone who knows their stuff.
