I hate it, to be honest. It looks far too much like an iPhone. If it's a better OS, such as being less memory-intensive, then that's fine, but I just hope you can still set the UI up to a regular taskbar-and-icons setting. I'd be much happier with that, I can have what I want, what I need, and not be cluttered up with all the other stuff like twitter and such that Microsoft wrongly assumes I want.

Counter argument to FOTEPX...
1. "Windows Explorer" will give you the old task bar style
2. The new start screen makes it "Finger Friendly" to a tablet user while still keeping the mouse usefulness for desktop users
3. It is more memory efficient, it makes 7 look like vista
4. Less intensive, with the new Icon Layout, organizing things looks a heck of a lot better then it did since windows me all the way to windows 7
5. Sure customizing it the way it was won't be the same, but having an eye friendly way of organization means alot more to me that customization

I've been using Window 8 Developer's Preview for quite some time now... Unfortunately, I liked Windows 7 better (though I don't plan to switch back). I find the full screen apps to be an annoyance, the start screen to be a lousy alternative to the start menu, and requiring 3 button presses on opposite sides of the screen in order to shutdown ridiculous. Unfortunately, you can't fix any of these issues without manually editing some files (no easy task unless you know what you're doing). The only things that I found to be actual improvements were the task manager and the startup time. Another issue is that though it is a new OS, I found myself trying to use it as if it was Windows 7. I'm sure there has been quite a bit of non-visual improves but the foreground is in dire need of improvement. Obviously it is a Developer Preview so they didn't include everything but I wasn't all that impressed after the first couple weeks. It was also only in its alpha stages when they first released it (months ago) so they have had time to fix and improve some of the 'features' but we'll have to pay for them like everybody else.

Microsoft's plan is to make an OS that will work on handhelds, laptops, and desktop computers. With that in mind, they decided making the start menu into a screen was a good idea. I have some friends that are excited about this but I don't share their enthusiasm. IMO, Hardware-intensive programs shouldn't be an option to low-end handhelds because they will only lead to more complaints from the end users.

Windows 8 is a sh** OS for a desktop environment. It's a good tablet OS, however.

Those are the only two designs I can find for Windows 8 tans. If an OS has the potential to sell, it will have lots of fans. Fans make fanart. For example, Windows Vista had TONS of designs for its OS-tan, before it even came out. Windows XP had even more. If there's only two designs, you can bet it doesn't have many fans

I'm sticking to XP also and it's totally not because the OS-tan is as cute as heck

There's a lot of stuff I can run on XP that won't run on any other system. Like RPG Maker XP

Yeah, Windows 8 looks like it could be good as long as you can  switch back to the taskbar and start menu. Besides, I'm an idiot who still uses Vista, and it locks up on me quite often,, Windows 7 wasn't as bad, but i still don't   like it all that much.

Windows XP was good, but windows Vista? I'M GOING TO DESTROY MY COMPUTER SOON. And if windows 8 isn't better, I'm getting a freakin' mac.

Go halfway and get a Linux

Or, better yet, a QNX

Yeah scourge, the problem being is windows has the joke on all of them, considering that more programs are for windows only, so that's what sucks about it. Plus if i did change like that, i'd be all like HURRDURR WHAT I DO HELP.

But seriously, mac has iMovie, garageband, and iMovie, windows? Windows Movie Maker sucks. But FL studio is awesome, minecraft is on both, so that's good. I don't use internet explorer, i use firefox, It's a hard choice to be reasonably honest. Or I could see if i could get both. That would probably work out.

Oh god, have I started a flame war on Mac VS Windows? Sorry.

I like both Mac and Windows, both have their uses (Macs are especially good for digital media, so I have heard). If I had the money, I would have both, but that may be just me.

As for Windows 8, it kind of reminds me of the Xbox 360 dashboard. I am liking Windows 7 more than XP now that I have gotten used to it, but that may also be just me. I probably won't bother with Windows 8 unless I get a new laptop/PC, Windows 7 is working perfectly fine for me at the moment.

That's why i hate Microsoft, ever since the xbox 360 came out, everything has been changed, tablets, phones, pc's, y'know. Look at the 360 Dashboard, look at phones and tablets recently, and now the Windows 8 OS. All the same. It gets annoying and it's kind of boring.

[lmgtfy]Asus Transformer Prime[/lmgtfy] <-- Better Then iPad 2, as well. The iPad ain't all that great when you actually look into it and compare.

Chaosmancer is winner, again.

Macs are more useful with digital media, since they can open most Microsoft file formats, but a Windows machine cannot open most Mac formats. Plus Macs have less viruses. Only a few Mac viruses have been found, and most of those have been resolved.

As for Windows 8... It was based on the Windows phone layout. Supposedto be more user friendly. The 360 dashboard is basically just a preview.

I also dual booted with windows 8 and find it pretty difficult to use without a touch screen. I'm planning to get a new tablet soon, and put windows 8 on it.
