Though we might as well have this here just so our forum metal fans (me, Pwn, Enigma, Scorp, Xan, NFX and others) could display our favorites+discuss them. It's alright to disagree with peoples choices, but don't get offensive about them.
So, you can put up a list of the all time best metal albums, or just for particular sub-genres. Feel free to include a clip from an album.

Mastodon's probably too slow for you. Pretty much everything else on the list is moderately quick (except for Converge and TDEP, which are insanely quick). :P

Awesome Topic. Metal can be tough to categorize because there are elements of Industrial and Thrash that can sound very similar. In order to create my list I used the Genre selection of iTunes to determine which of my albums were considered metal. (or the bands at least) A handful of my albums are considered Industrial... but I feel they are close enough to the metal genre to be included.

So anyways:

I don't really think QOTSA is metal, but I think that list is pretty good other than Trivium and maybe Vulger Display (I just find Cowboys more entertaining).

It sounded pretty boring if you ask me, not as good as Killing Is My Business or Peace Sells.

^That's my top-10, but I think the only one we can all seem to agree on is Sabbath's Paranoid. Can't really argue with it... Iron Man, War Pigs, Paranoid... it reads more like a greatest hits compilation than an album.
