Alcohol has this bitter unpleasant taste, and I never found a beer or any kind of drink that could cover it up enough to my liking.

The majority of my family has had their life ruined by crippling alcoholism, and I've watched my mother lose her mind drinking her sorrows away following her divorce. I'll pass.

Although that is very sad and I feel sorry for you and your family, that insinuates you will get those problems as soon as you start drinking beer. As long as you drink in moderation, alcoholism won't be a problem. However, I suppose you have your right to be cautious if it's a common thing in your family.

Also, for all you kids that are not going to touch a beer again because that one sip of your dad's beer tasted a bit off, there is a reason. Your body senses that it isn't good for you, so it makes the taste seem worse than it actually is, so you don't drink any more of it. When you're an adult, you get the real taste back (because your body thinks you can handle it now) and you can base whether or not you actually like beer or not properly. I respect the decision of everyone that has said they do not like beer but, for the underage drinkers, try leaving it until your 18th/21st birthday and then decide.

The instance where I didn't like beer happened when I was 21, so does that mean I'll never develop a taste for that stuff?

Probably not, I suppose it depends on the beer you're having.

Probably not, I suppose it depends on the beer you're having.

it sure does. not everyone likes the taste of beer but that's mostly because they have been exposed to sh**ty mass-produced cheap beer.

there are some good/decent mass produced beers but they are the minority.

I don't get drunk anymore after several incidents several years ago, but I'll have a singular drink every few nights if I feel like it.
A good cider is very preferable, but some beers and most wines are also nice. Spirits and stuff aren't my thing whatsoever.

My thoughts if you say alcohol tastes like piss
1) you've tasted piss?
2) you've obviously not tried any alcohol that doesn't taste like piss.
