I had this issue too with some video file types. My video editor would sometimes display the video black or with no sound.
If you have the latest Quicktime player, you'll have to downgrade it.

I have installed the version 7.4.1 and all videos now magically work in my video editor.

Edit: Uninstall your current Quicktime first for the old installation to work

Just ran a few laps in it, and it's a hell of a lot less squeamish.  I think I only ran something like a 1:08, but I am using the default setup that has the car 20 feet in the air with no camber.  I'll have another go at it after lunch.
