Title: Songs That Changed Your Life

Okay, the title may be a little melodramatic, but basically, I thought it'd be cool for everyone to share a couple of songs, say 5 max, they think have been most influential to them as a person or their music tastes.
Just 2 rules.
1) Try not to include a band twice. This is for me as much as anyone else, a Muse-spam list would not be interesting.
2) ABSOLUTELY NO SNIPING AT ANY PERSON'S CHOICES. It's quite a personal thing, in my opinion, and is absolutely unfair to go laughing at someone.


Okay, I shall start...
1) Welcome To The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
This song, as much as I dislike it now, started me on the road from a purely 'indie-rock' kinda range to the music taste I have now developed.


2) Stockholm Syndrome - Muse
Well who saw this coming? To be honest, it was so hard to pick 1 Muse track that I just picked the one that still really gets me to this day. The way it just keeps getting bigger and bigger is insane.


3) 5:15 - The Who
The Who are just such an amazing band. This track really opened me up to that whole area of music, and made Quadrophenia one of my favourite albums. The blend of brass instruments and keys with the band themselves is excellent.


4) American Idiot - Green Day
This blew my mind when I first heard it, but I guess I was too young to keep looking into their music or my taste would have developed much earlier than 2006 with Black Parade.


5) Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley
Never take things too seriously. Always have a bit of fun. Let's Rickroll some unfortunate chap.


6) Sorry You're Not A Winner - Enter Shikari
The first screamy song I got into, and the electronic influences may have been the source of my fondness for a bit of deadmau5 now.

There's only 1 song here I can say.

Parklife, by Blur. Listening to that 2 1/2 years ago was what really turned me onto music. Before that I listened to R.E.M. but that was it. After Parklife, I went nuts.

I can only really think of one at the moment;

End of the Line, by DevilDriver. It was essentially the song that helped me get into the heavier metal that I now listen to (could be argued that the entirety of DevilDriver was this, but it was this song that got me to listen to the rest of DevilDriver (and I only listened to this because a friend gave it to me)).

Screamager: Therapy?

This was the song that got me into Alternative / Hard Rock.  Once I heard this song, everything that resembled mainstream pop just didn't appeal to me anymore.  After that my mindset shifted to: "Whoa! What else is out there that's not on the radio?"  I pretty much became kinda snobby about it too.  If a song was overplayed on MTV or radio... I forced myself to not like it.  Because Therapy? isn't very popular in the U.S. they became my signature "rebel against mainstream" band of choice.

Setting Sun:  The Chemical Brothers

Techno? What is that? What is this madness that is being forced into my ears? Holy mother! This is awesome! What you say? Europe has been enjoying techno for years? OMG! What have I been missing? ---- Yeah.  Chemical Brothers started my love for techno. From there I discovered Daft Punk, Future Sound of London, Leftfield, Orbital, etc etc etc. 

Some interesting quick paced song from the Sega Genesis game "Road Rash 2" which later inspired looking into songs by Nine Inch Nails.

So yeah, my cousin and I were playing Road Rash 2 and we heard a song that was all sorts of awesome.  He said it sounded like a similar song by Nine Inch Nails that he heard on the radio. Well, from there I proceeded to pick up "Pretty Hate Machine".  From there I became a huge fan of Trent's work.  I was a diehard NIN fan until "the Downward Spiral" became mainstream and popular with people at my school.  I got really pissed and sold all my NIN CD's on ebay. (Which I regret to this day). 

Hmm. That's pretty much it. I don't think any other songs changed my life more than those.

Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
Made me realise I'm more homicidal than I thought.

Wake The Dead - Comeback Kid (Part of Burnout Revenge soundtrack)
Made me realise how good my taste in music is.

Rock 'n' Roll - Skrillex
Intro to dubstep. Made me realise how sh** my taste in music is.

The Hellion/Electric Eye - Judas Priest: first time I really "got" a metal song. It's still among my favorites today.
Phobophile - Cryptopsy: one of the few death metal tracks I initially liked. Sure I'd been listening to Morbid Angel for a long time, maybe some Dying Fetus or Vader but this was the one which made me able to listen to them more attentively. Great song.
Ethica Ordini - Enslaved: probably the first progressive black metal track I heard that wasn't Agalloch wank.
anything by Waking The Cadaver: gave me severe kidney trouble. I blame this band for my two cases of neumonia too. Worst band ever.
Radikult - Morbid Angel: made me stop liking Morbid Angel.
Forever Failure - Paradise Lost: song that got me into gothic metal.

1. Noel Gallagher - What a Life
Made me realize on how to look at people and realize that everyone has got a story.

2. The World Ends With You Main Theme - Twister
Basically made my two rules of my life = 1. Expression and 2. Expansion

3. The Fray - Over My Head
Made me realize that I can be make things bigger than they are so I have to take things with a grain of salt.

4. Kingdom Hearts 2 Opening theme - Sanctuary.
Makes me hope that life is like a good dream.

5. Mika - Teenage Circus (Can't remember the name)
Makes me know that I'm only 15 and I can still enjoy myself.

It was hard to pick one Wu song, but I think this is their best. Every member was at their best on this track, especially Inspectah Deck, his verse is just unreal. Anyone who thinks "b-but rap is just people saying how rich they are and how many bitches they have" needs to listen to this song.

I used to be a bit of a mix when it came to my music. (But still hated a lot of pop music with a passion) But that all changed when I got a copy of Tony Hawk's Underground 2, in which I found the track that unleased the inner metalhead in me. "Liberate" by Disturbed!

And Morbid Angel with "To The Victor The Spoils" A great introduction to pure death metal.

Yeah TTVTS was a good intro for me. Vader tracks like Silent Empire and Vicious Circle got me moving too (well the remastered versions anyway).
Try Cryptopsy - None So Vile, I think that's pretty much considered the best "pure" death metal album (along with Immolation's Close To A World Below and Suffocation's Effigy Of The Forgotten).

I've got a long and lulzy list. I'll start off with the must unsuspecting.

Tsurupettan
This song was the entrance to my kawaii uguu animu narutard hinata is god stage... or at least part of it. A great asianese children's song about stalking and small boobs. And perverts. Dafuq did I do to myself 3 years ago?

Caramelldansen (in just about any form, really)
Another kawaii uguu animu narutard hinata is god song thingy. I find myself doing this dance occasionally at marching band events whenever a cadence is done. It's also swedish or something. These three guys made a metal cover of it and it's sexy as heck.

Bad Apple (something from Touhou)
You might think this is a kawaii uguu pop-rock animu song about princesses and fairies, right? Wrong. This song is about very powerful little girls killing each other in the name of war and madness, and the lyrics are about both falling asleep and never waking up and/or waking up only to die right after. Yes, it's an upbeat song about depressing ways to die. Ain't that nice?

Next on my list, songs that are just truly epic.

Aces High - Iron Maiden
Probably one of the first Iron Maiden songs I ever heard thanks to Carmageddon 2. Also, probably one of my favorites. I always loved it as a kid even though I never really understood why it's so awesome, but now I do. And yes, the video I've plugged in is a Claymore AMV. Because Claymore is pretty awesome.

Tribute - Tenacious D
This is not the greatest song in the world. This is just Tribute. Seriously. I didn't know music could come this awesome.

Now to songs that simply... scare me. They just scare me.

Lavender Town (RIP Kossokei's pokemon blue)
I remember the first time going to Lavender Town on Pokemon Blue. It was probably midnight, I couldn't see my clock. I was playing on my GBA, earbuds plugged into it. Lavender sounded like a fun place to go to. And then I had nightmares.

Lavender Town Dubstep - Solkrieg (I dubbed the song 'Dear Cubone')
Probably the song that introduced me to dubstep. The feeling of this song... It's like being slowly eaten by a behemoth of ghostly proportions... it allows my mind to wander past reality and into my dreams, searching for some sort of meaning in my nightmares. It's also pretty sick.

U.N. Owen Was Her? - Flandre Scarlet's game theme
All of my fears. Flandre Scarlet. It's a sort of uneasy theme especially when you know who's theme it is.

Because I used to be a pessimist then this song restored my faith in humanity. Chicks on drums and guitar. Plus the band is kvlt kute as heck. Now I want a scythe.
