Title: Show Us Your Wheels!
Post by: HurricaneAndrew on December 10, 2010, 05:38:32 AM
I know their was already a thread about this somewhere, but I could care less about finding it amongst the pile of sh*t accumulating in the Chatterbox.

Anyway, show everyone what you drive!

Mine... I can't literally show you, at the moment. I might post a few pictures later on. I'll start by describing it.

I drive a maroon 1993 Buick Century. It has a 3.3L V6 engine, which I feel is a good combination of power and fuel economy. It's pretty beat-up. Actually, it has been totalled. The left front is smashed in from where some dumbass pulled out in front of me. Cracked windshield. One side's taillight is broken from where I got pissed off one night and punched it (smart move, I know).

I have a CB radio in it. It is a Cobra 25 with Nightwatch that is hooked up to a 650 watt linear amplifier (which is illegal to even have) and the signal is transmitted through a 3 ft. Firestik antenna on the trunk.

I also have a police scanner and a radar detector in it.

The weird part is that it is popular as Hell in my town. Almost anybody in my town can recognize it. It even has a fan page on Facebook! One of my friends coined a name for it one day. He said "This car is such a piece of sh*t, but at the same time it is the sh*t!" Thus, giving it the name "The Sh*t". It just kind of stuck.

It's days are numbered, though. With it being totalled, I am forced to find a different vehicle. I have decided rather than letting it sit in a scrapyard an and rust, I am going to let it go out in a blaze of glory. I am going to enter it in to a demolition derby this summer.

My car is largely the same make and model of Andrew's: a 1996 Buick Century. Also, same as Andrew, it just won't die. It should have been totaled twice already, but repairs have kept it alive and well... for now. Once I get out of college and can settle down, I'll be getting a new car.

Hopefully, it'll be one that doesn't get totaled or one that the sister-in-law eventually catches on fire.

Those Centurys are tough cars! Mine has been through more than most trucks.

My friend has a 91 Buick Century. I wonder who's brilliant idea it was to put the seatbelts on the doors.

Also, he found a tub of mysterious white powder in a secret compartment in the back of the car when he bought it...

I have often wondered that, myself. It should really be common sense that if the car overturns and the door flies open, you're f*cked.

Thats exactly what I said!

Also, it has no airbags, but my friend is convinced that if he hit a wall at 55 mph he'd be perfectly fine because the car is a "tank" because some big heavy tool was dropped on the car and it didn't dent.

I feel the same about the wheels. I think it's just because the tires on the front are 205 60/R15 when they should be 215 70/R15. So the tires on the front are a bit smaller then they should be, but the tires on the rear are just about worn out.

Anyway, a bit more info on my truck...

It has a 4.3L V6 engine. And as my '93 Century (mentioned in first post) was equipped, it also has a CB and a radar detector. The CB is the same Cobra 25 with Nightwatch, but instead of having a single 3-foot FireStick antenna on a magnetic base, it has dual 4-foot FireStick antennae that are mounted to the truck (as seen in picture).

I also got a new Cobra brand radar detector (The old Whistler I had was annoying and outdated).

I am currently looking for another police scanner to mount in the truck and I am still waiting to put in my 650 watt linear amplifier for the CB, too.

Nice! I <3 Preludes.  Glad to see you are keeping it stock.  When I was shopping for a new car earlier this year, it was impossible to find a decent used Prelude around here that hadn't had some halfassed body kit stapled on or some unnecessary mods done to the engine.  There was a dude here in town that seemed to make a hobby out of ruining Honda Preludes... it made me cry.  I haven't seen him around in a while, which is good.

Very nice car!  :D

Cheers man. Just bought it about 2 months ago, it's my first car. I'm going to go for the "OEM+" look, much like this guy (http://www.preludepower.com/forums/showthread.php?t=338598). Honda know best when it comes to aesthetics for this car, IMO. Very fun with the 4WS, it's cool to do a u-turn on a road and see people's reactions (usually ).

Nice car. Ill have to remember to clean up my car and remeber to take a picture of it, its white and it gets dirty fast when I have to drive on a dirt road and the road is wet. So right now it looks like top half is white bottom half brown. Thing is tho its starting to get colder here so soon I cant even wash it myself or I will just cast a layer of ice on it.

Not really a bump, though, is it?

Anyways, the engine is now put of my car, the rocker cover and cam head are off, and the pistons look to have a bit of wear on them...but not bad, considering they have never been changed for the 42 years the car's been around. Checked the reason for the wear...the valve gaps are WAY too small. Need to re-shim the valves, but finding shims for a car long not in production isn't easy.

Cool car.

Your 850cc engine is about 30-35 hp, right? How much would replacement parts/repairs be? Because an electric conversion would be about $2,500. A perm 132 (34 horse power motor) is about $1000 and lipo batteries would be another thousand if you get them from the right place.

We're trying to get it to standard, chich so far has cost about £150, and the car cost £500. It was quite a bargain, I must admit. Once that's done, then I think we will use standard bolt-ons:
- Pancake Air Filters
- Alternator conversion
- Spark kit (Plugs, distributor, etc.)
- Radiator conversion to the front
- Interior luxuries (CD player, etc.)
- etc.
EDIT: It's actually got a beasty 39 bhp!

Yes, it is. People then buy side mirrors and bolt them either onto the door, next to the quarterlight, or on the side wings either side of the bonnet. I'm gonna put mine on the door, I think. That way, I can ope the window and alter the mirror's angle.

You're right about it being in rallies, although they used the 9-hundred cc engines, so more power. The Hillman variants were good in rallies - RR drive, light and small.

My parents have decided that my old 'Chamy ain't the best car for a learner driver. They're so goddamn overprotective. Well, in all fairness there aren't any airbags...or crumple zones...or ABS...or inertia seatbelts. But let's be honest, when you aren't relying on all that bubble-coating, you drive a car differently. But at any rate, I'm doomed to be consigned to an '02 Corsa or something.

This is my second MR2.  Rear engine cars FTW.  My old white one was in a hit and run.  Running cusco coilovers and I have another inch and half of drop left if I want it but I already scrap on my drive way as it is.  Current ground clearance 1.8 inches. I blew the water pump a few months ago and im waiting on some parts.  We are preping it for a 3vz-fe motor swap out of the lexus es300.  First we need to finish my brothers RX7 drift build that is running with a ford 2.3 turbo motor.(http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/381187_10150395663901892_556106891_8830781_1934510770_n.jpg)

Nice MR2!  I was thinking about lowering my Scion TC, but I will likely run into the driveway scraping problem as well.  What gen is the RX7?  I have a 2nd gen that I am bringing back from the dead (for the second time).  2.3 Turbo has gotta have some nice sized balls to it in that chassis.  I won't ever give up my 13B NA in mine though. I love how smooth it purrrrrrrs.  <3 <3 <3

This may have some obvious answer, but why would someone put a 4-cylinder 2.3 Ford into an RX7 that would normally have a rotary engine? Less expensive parts would be my only guess...

DP.

All right, here's one...

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/25310The Cobra.png)

(Edited out the number plate and my big bro's ugly face)

This was quite a few years ago, probably circa. 2004, when my dad was still building it. (note the lack of Windscreen etc.) This is a Gardner Douglas MK3, the kitcar based on the AC Cobra 427.

It has a 6.3 litre Chevy V8, with around 450 horsepower, and a fully fibreglass semi-monoque. All about less than 1000kg.

It's like a little racing car, with double wishbone suspension and Toyo tires.

Oh, and it even has Autometer gauges; the ones from the NASCARs <3

Also pictured, my Mum's old Hyandai Santa Fe. A lovely car, shame we don't have it any more.

Ok, fine. I'll go have a look around and see if I can get my grubby hands on a pic of my dad's car...
Have you ever driven it?

The RX7 is a early N/A third gen.  1988.  The reason for the ford 2.3 is because it makes more power than the N/A 13b, much more low end torque and parts are waaay cheaper and easy to fine.  Keep in mind that this car is going to be out at drift events about every other week so we need parts and fast.  Once that motor goes though we might be switching to a N/A 1JZ.  A new diff is going in soon and we have the rear steering assist delete kit.  We just found a great deal on a new turbo and manifold to.  We just ordered some powered by max coilovers and should be here in a week.  We have little over a month to get everything ready for the first event.

The MR2 it step up for really hard autocross so that thing is all suspension work right now.  The coilover set up is a grey market cusco set up with deleted sway bars.  Really need to get some wide rims and tires though and a good fender pull.

Im also looking to pick up ether a 80's cressida or a celica supra and building a daily shakotan/bosozoku style car.  Tall exhaust pipes and all. ^_^

Keep in mind, he whose vehicle seats most, drinks least. You'll always be the DD.

Needs more Glass Pack.

A glass pack would make a 4-banger sound like complete sh**. The best bet is to cut off the stock muffler and install a Flowmaster in it's place. Gives you decent sound, but not like a fart can.

PT Cruiser? Eeeeewwwww...

I must say, as an everyday workhorse (for sake of a better word...not enough power to do work, really.), it's not bad. But when there are other choices...no.

Speaking of other choices, I need them. My Singer won't do for an everyday, too unsafe.

Also, speaking of, the cylinder head is back on, as is the camshaft housing. We haven't put the rocker-cover back on, but then again, we need to take the oil sump off and check that first. 24 frickin' bolts holding that bloody thing on. Also (if anybody has any idea what it's like to torque-up a bolt), the cylinder head bolts need a torque of 48.8 Nm. It takes enough work to torque it to half of that. I guess the original builders of the engines (Scottish ex-ship-builders) were a lot stronger than I am.

Four tech decks? Damn. Go for it, Scrap!

Anyways, have a sump gasket, so that's gonna be no trouble to put back on...at least the 24 bolts don't need to be torqued to 48.8 Nm...thank *non-specific deity*.

Also, it's good that the engine is so light. All-aluminium 875cc engines FTW!

My car's gonna need a security system of some sort...I was considering just taking the wheel off as I get out. That'ss show 'em, especially as they'll need a special boss to mount any wheel to the steering column.

Or just unplug the distributor. I love having such an easy car to modify.

He's right you know...

Cherry Bombs are in no way the same as a fartcan. Cherry Bomb is a brand of glass pack, which is a muffler replacement. Fartcans are exhaust tips.

Not exactly quick-release, but easy to unbolt from the steering column. I might end up just taking the starter motor out, see what they'd do then. Especially as my rear bumper doesn't have a hole for the turn-over handle.

Not really jealous bro, I've had more than enough opportunities to buy cars like yours and have turned them down because I'm looking for something that isn't a pile of slag and plastic.

Sadly, everyone in Lancaster is an inbred retard who doesn't know how to reply to emails or text messages, so finding a good car that I can actually contact the buyer of has been difficult.

All the exhaust is is the manifold going straight into the side of the silencer. Not very long.

If the silencer is what we Americans call a muffler, then it would probably be replaced, as well.

No, a sport exhaust is just a longer manifold. The silencer ends up lengthways across the back, pointing to the side, rather than pointing straight out the back.

No, sport exhaust = longer manifold, like so:

I will feed you my automotive upgrade wisdom...

"Do not deliberate over which upgrade you should or shouldn't get.  Instead, focus on which one you should buy first and which one you should buy second."

Ultimately, aim to do it all.

BTW, the reason I haven't been active on the forums much lately (or building bots for that matter):

Bunch of pics in Spoiler.  Basically, I am doing a massive teardown on my RX7 to clean it up.  I put it away in the garage in '05 because I ran out of time and money to keep it on the road.  My goal is to have it cleaned up and running again by next year.  I was sick of the ugly stained stock carpet in the car, so I removed it.  I'm probably going to spray the interior with bedliner instead and wipe everything out but the essentials to lighten the load.  So far I have removed about 100 pounds of unnecessary crap to offset the 100+ pounds of car audio that I usually have installed.  Started doing body work this past week... and the car is in terrible need of a new paintjob.  :P

Holy sh**... You do realize there are people that would pay damn good money for that car in the shape it's currently in, right?

Anyway, here's a list of questions about every picture...

First picture. I spy a stack of Hoosier drag slicks... What might those be for?

Second picture. I am assuming that is the rotary engine. Very costly to repair and get parts for. Is it in good running condition?

Third picture. Stereo system... Lots of questions on this one.
What size and size are the subs and amps?
How old are the subs?
What is there maximum wattage they will handle?
How long have they gone unused?

No further questions...

Holy sh**... You do realize there are people that would pay damn good money for that car in the shape it's currently in, right?

The car looks great, but it has three things against it that lower the value.
-It's not a manual transmission (which sucks) I might convert it over to a manual someday... but that will take a lot of time and money.
-The engine was replaced shortly before I bought it.  So, the serial numbers don't match. I have no idea how many miles are on the replacement... though I should get the VIN off it and carfax it at some point.
-This is the non-turbo version of the car.  Personally I like the NA version better and it's one less thing to break on the car.

Overall, there isn't a spot of rust on the car which is nice.  I love the car, so I probably wont get rid of it any time soon.

Anyway, here's a list of questions about every picture...

First picture. I spy a stack of Hoosier drag slicks... What might those be for?

For this:
Sadly it is retired though... Shut down the race team this spring because the owner is getting too old to call it fun.

Second picture. I am assuming that is the rotary engine. Very costly to repair and get parts for. Is it in good running condition?

When I parked it in '05 it ran awesome.  However, sitting dormant for 7 years probably was not kind on the seals... I imagine it will explode.   I have to put in a solid battery and swap out the alternator to fire it up again. Might do that next week.  Crate rotaries are pretty cheap btw and I haven't had too hard a time getting parts at a reasonable price for this one.

Third picture. Stereo system... Lots of questions on this one.
What size and size are the subs and amps?
How old are the subs?
What is there maximum wattage they will handle?
How long have they gone unused?

Subs: 2 x 12" alphasonic 500 watts RMS 1000 watts peak.  Purchased in '04 only used for 1 year before the car was parked.
Amps:  1 Memphis MC1000D 1000 watt class D monoblock amp bridged to a 1ohm load powering both subs to exactly 500 watts each.
I was also running a JVC 4 channel amp to the midrange speakers... but that is all going to change.
The whole system was set up and run just a handful of times at carshows for 1 year before I parked it in the garage.

Mine's been non-running for 20 years. We're having to take apart absolutely everything...

...also, got a new steering wheel. Moto-Lita, £25. Absolute steal. I didn't realise how heavy the original steering wheel was until I took it off. I needed a new steering wheel because my legs are too big, and therefore so was the steering wheel. Now I can get into the car properly. However, there is still the matter of getting new seats so that my knee isn't in a position where it is fighting for space with the indicator.

No.  Just no.

What is the story?  How did you get it?

"Lower-Middle Class" family was getting rid of it (since they had three Ford products from 1970s sitting in their driveway).  By the sound of it, husband was a mechanic who kept it for no reason and the wife hated it and wanted it gone.

Just FYI, my dinosaur has about the same power output as your asthmatic Corvette (30 more ft-lb, 30 less hp), and that's without the 4-barrel carb I'm gonna put in it.  That, and it's got two sofas in it for seats.  All that, plus the fact that it actually works.

There isn't much to prove, though, if you have an adequate knowledge of cars.

Too bad you have the ugliest kind of C3 Corvette.  If you wan't a car that's slow and good looking, at least get one that's designed to be slow and good looking.

Speak for yourself, the car you got is driven mostly by old people and those who are unable to afford any newer cars and is more valuable as scrap metal. If you care so much about horsepower and torque so much like you did earlier, why didn't you get yourself a respectable old car that people actually like looking at such as a classic muscle car like a Barracuda or a Challenger? Then you can brag your car looks nicer and has more HP than mine and I would agree.

That your Corvette is a joke.
There isn't much to prove, though, if you have an adequate knowledge of cars.

And apparently you still don't know the difference between exhaust components let alone a decent short term memory for how much power certain engines put out.

Your car is Fugly and something that old people with no sense of style drive. It wasn't designed to be slow and good looking, it was designed to be a car and it fails pretty badly at that. If you want something that is designed to be slow and good looking, get a parade float, though I don't think your momma would be able to afford one of those for you.

Or maybe you just like ugly cars but I don't know, so here is a picture to remind you of how ugly it is.

Hey, grats to you if you can actually see cars like mine on the road every now and then, because I sure as heck don't.  I do see cars like yours though, and I could have easily bought one too, but I didn't because it was a piece of junk.  Sure, it's got a lot of power, but that's all it's got going for it.  It's ugly, clad in plastic, and a product of 90's GM, so I wouldn't be surprised if it started falling apart.

Also, have fun finding a Barracuda or Challenger that's affordable and not a pile of rust.

Yes, I knew the car wasn't a muscle car, but I also knew that it's not hard to pull extra horses out of a Cleveland.  Regardless of this, the point was that your Corvette (which was supposed to be a sportscar) had just about the same amount of power as my LTD (which was not designed to be a sportscar).  That's pathetic and not worth bragging about, especially when you consider the 10 year time difference between the two cars.

And apparently you still don't know the difference between exhaust components let alone a decent short term memory for how much power certain engines put out.

I'm pretty sure no amount exhaust components will change the fact that your Corvette is a joke.  Anyway, if you wan't to talk about how much power our engines put out modified, talk to me after I've dropped a 4 barrel carb, performance plugs, and a plethora of other parts into my engine.

However, I do hope that you intend to put side pipes on it.  If not, you should do the world a great favor and give yourself a colonoscopy with a cordless drill.

Your car is Fugly and something that old people with no sense of style drive. It wasn't designed to be slow and good looking, it was designed to be a car and it fails pretty badly at that. I disagree, as I've found that most old people either drive newer Buicks, or Town Cars from the 80's.

So lets look at my car as a boring means of transportation, since you think that's all it was ever designed to do.  It works for that.  Even if my car was the ugly sh**box you wish it was, I'd say it's still better than a car that was designed to be fast and good looking and fails to do both (let alone run).

Also, I bought it with my own money (money I made myself at a job I got myself), so I'm afraid you can't pull out the "mommy bought you a car" card on me.

tl;dr -

Lol Noodle, you are made of fail. No matter how many parts you put on your LTD, it will still be weak as sh**. Besides, I wasn't talking about the exhaust on the Corvette, why would I put a nice exhaust on a slow car?, Look up what happened in the late 70s and early 80s, and you might learn something about automobiles during that time.

Why are you so focused on my Corvette like I care about it doesn't run? My Trans Am easily doubles the horsepower let alone milage you have on your slow ugly as sh** POS transportation. Anyways, I don't have any hate for the car you drive unlike yourself who seems to hate everything, but I do feel sorry for it because an internet failtroll like yourself drives it.

Plugs can affect a vehicle if they are filled with carbon build-up, aren't gapped properly, or have been fouled.

Either way, you're both faggots. I have two lawnmowers that produce more torque than either of your vehicles.

Yes, I know that.  I even said that your car has a sh**load of power.

I also said that the power factor was about all it had going for it.  This is the part you didn't seem to absorb so well (or even read to begin with).

Also, new plugs will improve spark, and therefore will make the fuel ignition effortless. Changing the Distrubuter and plugs will be one of the first things to do on my car.

The whole idea was that my car doesn't go very fast, therefore I'm not really in any position to say that my car is better than anyone else's. Therefore, my claim that my car is better than everybody's was meant to extract humour from the situation. But anyways...:

I'm thinking about what classic car to get once I finish the Singer Chamois (and have some fun with it). I was thinking along the lines of a Hillman Avenger or a Sunbeam Rapier. Something sportier than the Imp variants, but still small and nifty.

Oh dear god.  I owned that exact Cressida for 4 years. '82 three tone brown, automatic...

Thing was horrible in the snow... the water pump failed on it gloriously... you could kick the rear bumper and it would rain rust underneath (was quite amusing to watch).  Alas, it ran pretty decent and was quiet.   The thing that pissed me off the most was the lack of headroom.  I'm 6 feet tall... and the sunroof is like 2 feet thick on that car... totally kills all the headroom.  I loathed driving that thing because unless I put the seat back at a 30 degree angle, my head would rub against the ceiling.  I wish I had put some sport seats in it so I could sit closer to the floor.

Toyota has one thing going for them... The body will rust away and be gone before that bastard will quit running.

I'm pretty damn tall and I fit in it just fine.

Also the snow is gonna be fun as heck. :V

R.I.P. My 1988 Chevrolet K5 Blazer.  Died going eastbound on I-20 heading for college, blown engine.  It was very hard to let her go especially since that truck was my first car.  Traded the old girl in for a 2011 Ford Ranger.  Cried when I learned she was going to the junkyard, couldn't watch that tow truck haul her away.   :(

The latest addition to my collection looks something like this: (http://img.favcars.com/lincoln/town-car/lincoln_town_car_1985_photos_1.jpg)

As a 13 year old, I don't have a car surprisingly.

However, my parents drive these: (http://cdn.carbuyer.co.uk/sites/carbuyer_d7/files/jato_uploaded/skoda-octavia-2013-front-quarter-cornering.jpg) Dad's

(http://www.autospies.com/images/users/turbox/Peugeot-308-SW-Price-1[1].jpg) Mum's

However if it counts, I've driven both the cars kinda. I drove my dad's on the motorway back from Minecon 2012 and I drove my mum's home from school a few months ago.

Once I actually get my permit I'll be driving one of these:

once I get my permit..

I don't even care that it's a van. It's a vehicle. Besides, the one waiting outside for me is strong running and even a little ballsy, and it's got these really seductive sliding doors

my dad has one of these in black:

it's constantly very angry and it sounds like a truck and I love it

vans are great. you can go on epic road trips with them and they are usually "decent" to drive

It looks very nice. Is there a lot of space in the back for our special fun times?

Also how much does it cost? To buy and to run?

I don't remember how much it costed. It's not a new car by any juxtaposition of the phrase, but it's not old either.

To run the one that's sitting outside waiting for me, probably a reasonable amount. There's some silliness within it mechanically that has to do with spark plugs or something, and it's a van so I can't imagine it gets 9001 miles to the gallon.

(this has turned into a review of the vehicle) otherwise it's actually pretty nice, it rides smooth, interior and exterior are both cleaner than a hospital ward, A/C takes a bit to kick in but is lovely, and yes, there's plenty of space- There's actually a 3rd row of seats in the back for surplus lounging... or other things~
