Recommendations for a good, cheap (free?) Anti-Virus software?
« on: January 07, 2011, 05:26:17 AM »
All,

I've recently had to uninstall AVG anti virus for my Windows XP, in order for Team Fortress 2 to run properly (not do the sound loop thing which happens). However, I am now in need of a new anti virus software. Any recommendations?

I have *goes to look*  Symantec Client Security. If/when something gets through, I just find the file path of the virus and boot up Ubuntu from a CD and delete the virus manually. Works like a charm.

I just use System Restore whenever I get a virus. I have administrative properties, ya see.

AVG Antivirus, or if you can spare the money Norton is great!

Avast.

I don't like Avira's interface, and AVG's recent version isn't very stability.

hai guise it's sergebot

Or actually it's me doing some maintenance on the script and in the meantime reading S&P.

Norton is not good, it's bloat. Same goes for McAffee. Don't get them, even pirated. Slows a computer to death, eats RAM for breakfast.

Avira used to be good, now it started giving popups saying "BUY DA PREMIUM VERSION" a lot. Avast is good, but the once-a-year-registration annoys the heck out of me. AVG sucks balls, its detection rate is really awful these days.

I'd go with MSE or Avast. MSE is my favourite choice right now, but Avast is good, too.

Thats right, But if you dont care about Sexyness or anything... Avira is the best, It has the best Detection rates of all :P
Avast is also awesome, Im currently using Avast Internet Security cause my Avira expired D:
