Personally, for tone, you can not, simply CAN NOT beat a heavy ibanez.
I've been thinking that eventually I'll need a new guitar since I run on a partly broken Strat. I've had a lot of ideas, like a Jackson King V (which is a pretty good deal usually too, 349.00 in some cases) or an ESP. So, what would you recommend?
Oh yeah, I don't have a Failbook and I don't plan on getting one.uhhh, i can't see it and i have one.
What's your budget?Deans are very overpriced. The tone from most Deans is not what I want either. I probably want something under £500, which rules out the Ibanez Destroyer range,
Also, DDDDDEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNN.
I don't think deans are overpriced, I think they're quite reasonabley priced really.I'll try an Ibanez at some point. Seems like I have some easy top 3 contenders. A King V (sounds like it would suck but apparently it's got excellent tone and has an excellent weight. Uses Alder wood too.), ESP LTD MII, and some mid range Ibanez.
Gibson, now they are overpriced (I hate gibson with a passion for various reasons).
My favourite pickups are probably dimazios, seems every guitar I try with them on sounds awesome.
How could I forget about schecter?!?!? I do really want to try out a schecter, but there seems to be nowhere in the north of england that sells them  And yeah, I'm tempted to save up for a damien 7 string, just so I can play moar dream theater stuff XD
But the fact that you want a rhythm metal guitar (like me, weird, for some reason i thought you'd be a lead guitarist) makes me recomend an ibanez even more so. They have CRUCNCH, something whic more lead orientated guitars, like b.c rich as you said, don't have.

Gibsons are for posers who don't know better, atleast get an epiphone over them for better value, if not any better quality!
Not dissing epiphone, they're o.k, a lot better than gibson.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mevxenJ6Mtc# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mevxenJ6Mtc#)
I despise gibson, and enigma, if you really want to, i'll gladly post a stupidly long post about why, and just how much i hate them ;P
Gibson are extremely pricey, and in many cases are poorly made, see the Gibson Explorer. They also have poor sound and often have fret buzz. Not dissing epiphone, they're o.k, a lot better than gibson.

Guess I am the only Peavey fan here.I didn't know made guitars as well as amps XP.

But, honestly, I recommend just going to several guitar shops and put the axes on your lap. Fall in love with one that way, that is how I ended up with my T-60. Though, I can't play worth crap.QFT
It is a good question, how good are you, Scorp? We've never had much indication. I'm not great, but I can do some neat riffs and I enjoy playing Anthrax. But, honestly, I recommend just going to several guitar shops and put the axes on your lap. Erm, well, not the last part >_>

Untill I am better than petrucci himself I will not stop trying!!! ;P
Seriously though, I can play a couple of dream theater songs (the ones that DON'T have sweep picking XD) so, meh, I'll get round to recording myself at some point, then i'll probably post it here for all to mock and insult.
Hmm, it's a Telecaster clone. There are better guitars, but it isn't bad. What amp do you use? What I've been wanting to get a is a Line 6 IV 15.
Since Enigma's resurrected the thread, I might as well say what guitars I've tried so far.
I've played a couple of Ibanez's. They're pretty good but I didn't really enjoy the sound they gave off. One was a standard scale, the other a long scale for down-tuning. They were pretty good.
I also tried a Dean Vendetta -7, which was nice and easy to play, but I'm getting a 7 string when I need one :P
I then tried a Schecter Damien 6. It was very comfortable, had good sound with it's EMGs but very poor sustain. I also tried a Cort Rhoads-thing that was pretty fun, and the pickups and sound were equal to the Schecter, and it had a decent Floyd on it. However it was initially uncomfortable and slightly unbalanced.
So far I'm looking to go to Gig Gear and maybe shift my ass over to Birmingham to check out some Carvins.
Hey, Enigma, do you plan on getting another guitar? If so, what's your budget?I might get another one as soon as I can play something more complicated than the star spangled banner. XD
You want at least an X series or better V. But if you have a huge ass budget you can get the KV2, a seriously amazing guitar, from all the rumors.Hey, Enigma, do you plan on getting another guitar? What I was thinking about was going down to the guitar shop in my town and try out a Jackson King V.

That's X series, so it's fine. You might want to be careful with the Licensed Floyd as it isn't as good as the original you can find on Schecters or the Kahlers you find on B.C. Rich's. B.C. Rich is very good and worth consideration if you buy a high end one.I've been looking at B.C. Rich's as well. I really like the Wartribe. :D

I also Carvin because you can customize your guitar with the specs you want and it's not that overpriced.

There is only one Carvin dealer in the UK. It be funneh.
But I don't know how much a stock Carvin costs, as they do exist and Carvin makes black V220s as a production model. But it sounds amazing, and I WILL own a Carvin at some point.
Well, he's right. The Shred-X sucks and teh Tribal doesn't XDYes someone has. :gawe:Someone has been watching dmometalguitar'd videos :rolleyes:That's X series, so it's fine. Yes. After watching some of his videos, I now admit that Gibsons suck. :PWell, he's right. yay, guitars...Whut's your budget?
Malmsteem? Never heard of them, i'll have to look em up at some point.
Damien? I really wanted to try the 7 string version of that, by what you just said, I REALLY want to.
V's? Urgh, I hate playing v shapes, it's a shame, coz I love the way they look, but they're just too impractical for me.
Gibsons? NO, they suck, there is no justification to buying a gibson over really any other guitar make in the same price range!
Anyway, good timing, as it's recently been agreed between me and my parents that my Ibanez is being sent back, because the bridge was already f****ed from the moment we got it (the knife edge is patheticly weak) and replacing it with an upgraded spec bridge would be so costly that I may aswell just get a refund and buy a new guitar.
So, yeah, as it turns out, I need to go guitar shopping again
lol, surprisingly enough i haven't damaged it yet, despite how frustating it's been. And there went my KV2 idea:P
And my budget, I could probably stretch it to a grand. Ideally want a 7 string really.

Don't be hip and buy a seven string; go get a B.C. Rich Stealth or something vague like that. Or a Peavey Tomb.
Downtuning works for me. Any lower than B and your creeping into lame territory.lol, how is a 7 string hip? A lot of popular metal bands use them. It kinda sucks.lol, surprisingly enough i haven't damaged it yet, despite how frustating it's been. And there went my KV2 idea:P

I just want the extra range, what's so bad about that? ;P
Hey, just bought the Ibanez RG320PG today. Sounds great and the tremolo stays in tunes surprisingly well for a non-Schaller produced trem. Bit of fretbuzz but overall it's very good and I got it for a bargain price. Looks great too.Pics plz? :D

Stays in tune fine for dive bombs but pull-ups have bad effects on its tuning.
However...
I've got a guitar project for the summer where me and my physics professor-granddad are going to build a guitar. I've already planned pickups (Seymour Duncan Invader SH-8s) , electronics, wood (Alder because it sounds great) and we're going to salvage an old neck off my Strat (with fret sanding in order to reduce buzz). However, I want a decent Trem on it for a decent price. I've been thinking the Floyd Rose Special, the official licensed trem owned by the Floyd Rose company, or a Kahler if I can find one cheap. Your thoughts?

You're either gonna get a decently built one, or one (like mine) that has a knife edge that dissolves when exposed to air.
As for the guitar, seymour duncans + awesome, although personally I prefer dimazio's generally.
Be VERY careful when sanding the frets! Even a millimeter too much and your tuning is screwed.
And from what I know, a kahler IS your best option, if you can afford it, like you said ;P
