Title: Reading Festival 2011
Post by: Lupus on August 29, 2011, 10:35:58 AM
This year I was able to go to Reading Festival, and i have decided to do  a review of the festival so you unlucky people can see what you missed  (and some things you should be GLAD you missed)
I was only able to see these bands play;
My Chemical Romance
Probably the third best of the WHOLE weekend, they played a couple of songs off their new album (not many) and also ALOT of their classics. They managed to start a moshpit with their song 'Destroya'.Great live band and their singer can actually hit high notes live(also his speaking voice is really camp, REALLY CAMP)

30 Seconds To Mars
Absolutely TERRIBLE live
, Jared Leto didn't sing a single one of his songs all the way through, heck, he didn't even sing one HALF way through, example:
"No No No No*stops* Come on everyone! *holds mic out towards the crowd for three minutes*"

The Offspring
They were absolutely AMAZING live, they did all their classics except for original prankster ( :( )the singer and guitarist are both spectacular live, and in the words of Noodles himself "Not bad for a retired janitor,eh?"

Deftones
To be honest I only watched them to hear them play one song,My own summer (shove it) and when they f***ed that up i felt dead inside...They had a ton of sounds problems that totally ruined their performance.

The Strokes
They played most of their classics, and they played them well, the singers stage personality was really aggravated and droll due to the fact Pulp ran over and the The Strokes had about 10-20 minutes cut off their time.

MUSE
They were IMMENSE live, they did the whole Origin of symmetry album, THEN they did their classics (in my mind i thought origin of symmetry WERE the classics!)the members of the band are extremely talented with their instruments (have riffs MADE out of pinch harmonics)(have the bass and the guitar synthesise to create crazy and amazing sounds).Matt Bellamy also broke not one but TWO custom made guitars (£4000 each) the second time he impaled the bass drum with the neck.
The stage was decorated with the poles from the cover of the album they play (Origin of Symmetry) the front of the stage shot fire stupidly high and the screen at the back played some crazy videos that took you on an adventure through the performance.

If you want me to talk about the other performances i saw live just ask.

The first four have given me tumours in various areas of my body on previous occasions.

Muse is always fine though.
How was Steve and Elbow?

I thought Diamond Eyes was okay-ish. I've never been a fan of their nu metal/experimental style, mostly because of the former style being so god-awful.

Muse looked awesome. Wish BBC broadcasted OOS, my favourite album ever. And it was only 1 guitar he smashed, he smashed it twice. It was one of the first 25 Matt Bellamy signature Manson Deloreans, so he can afford to kill it - and its condition is unknown XD
How did Hyper Music sound with Chris singing the chorus?

I do not remember.I didn't even realise the bassist was singing.I think that song was about the time when two girls, totally of their faces(beer, other various drugs) started dancing in front of us, totally unconscious of their own space.
Also Matt Bellamy can afford to kill any guitar, he is rich.

No offense, but a good guitarist doesn't do this. A guitar should be your best friend, you should get to know it and learn what it can/can't do. No two "custom-made" guitars are the same, though it might look cool, breaking your guitars on-stage is bad for your sound.

I gotta head to iTunes and listen to some Muse.  You guys speak highly of them.

"for your sound",I have no clue what you mean by that. They turn the guitars sound off so you dont hear a giant SMAAASH! sound when he whacks it.

If you are using a brand-new guitar all the time you can't tune your sound as good. Your sound as in the sound that you and your guitar produce.

He uses the same guitar that are the same specs every time, unso would produce the sound he wants no matter what.Plus he uses enough pedals to make a squier rip-off (they're are loads of squier rip-offs,what's the point, squiers are feckin' cheap!) sound amazing

He only ever throws one or 2 around that he doesn't mind breaking.
Here's a list of all the guitars he uses currently - http://musewiki.org/Manson_Guitars (http://musewiki.org/Manson_Guitars)
And of all those he currently only throws the DL-1 (which is one of 25 signature MB models made by Manson, so it's not the original.)
The MB-1 Red Glitter got a nice battering when I saw them, but those guitars are strong man, that DL-1 got mashed in 2 songs and is still in perfect order.

(Apologies for the bump :3)
