Im sure the bank statement of the teams will say different..

I only just caught it.. didnt get a good look but it was pretty violent..

I dont really care much for Nascar personally.. it was just on our news due to Ambrose winning..

Wow the track safety standards in Nascar really suck.. the barriers are no way near good enough for cars travelling at that kind of speed..

I admit though.. I have never seen a Nascar circuit race, they look 100% more entertaining as opposed to the normal "no right turn" tracks :P
Title: Re: New NASCAR topic
Post by: Somebody on August 16, 2011, 10:05:34 AM
Generally the standards are better with energy absorbing barriers, etc. but Watkins Glen seems to have neglected that. They made the same mistake Pocono did where you put walls at right angles to where the cars will be heading at them if spun.

This year's race had a catch fence but they almost had a car go out in the same race. All they had was a row of trees.

Sometimes little hills get installed though

ARCA is a lesser series, but if it was main NASCAR, someone would've been killed

they need to put Montreal and Road America instead of all those cookie cutter tracks for the cup series

Why do people like NASCAR? It's just cars driving around an oval.

because you get to see them race on road courses and basically bump into each other in every corner.

Why do people like NASCAR? It's just cars driving around an oval.

There's a lot more involved than that. You have to watch a race at one of the better tracks (Daytona, Bristol, Darlington) to get it.
they need to put Montreal and Road America instead of all those cookie cutter tracks for the cup series

Yeah, get rid of Pocono and one of the Texas races.

Im talking about Kansas, Las Vegas, and Kentucky.
Drop Kansas's second race, get rid of Michigan's second race, drop one of Pocono's races.
Enough room for 3 more road courses.
Title: Re: New NASCAR topic
Post by: Somebody on August 16, 2011, 09:57:06 PM
Pocono is one of the more interesting tracks. We need less 1.5 mile tri-ovals. They are all the same! All of the unique tracks deserve dates (Pocono, Martinsville, Bristol, Richmond, New Hampshire, Indy, Daytona, Talladega, Darlington, Phoenix, road courses, and maybe even Dover) We need one more road course also. Tracks like Chicagoland, Kentucky, Kansas, Auto Club, Las Vegas, Texas, Charlotte, and Michigan need to be evaluated and whichever one with the worst racing loses a date.

Edit: adding to that, NASCAR technically runs nearly no ovals, they are all tri-ovals, rectangles, triangles, paperclips, etc.

Also, NASCAR doesn't need 5 road races. We have to remember that NASCAR IS an oval series.
Title: Re: New NASCAR topic
Post by: Badnik96 on August 16, 2011, 10:22:07 PM
Yeah, 3 road courses is enough But Pocono interesting? What?
Title: Re: New NASCAR topic
Post by: Somebody on August 16, 2011, 11:46:48 PM
By interesting, I mean better than the cookie cutter 1.5 mile ovals. The racing may be a bit better but it's the same thing basically 6 or 8 times per year. That's when it gets boring. Pocono is more of a challenge for the drivers and it is very unique.
Title: Re: New NASCAR topic
Post by: JoeBlo on August 18, 2011, 07:23:05 AM
People merge onto our highways with more action then Nascar passing on "tri-ovals, rectangles, triangles, paperclips"

Taking a lap to gradually pass someone isnt exciting

Anyone excited about tomorrow's race? Bristol's one of my fave tracks. Once I did a NR2003 truck race at Bristol and the winner was the only car still on the lead lap XD everyone else wrecked at one point (I'll upload some replays at one point)
And only 1 car without sponsorship racing this week. :D S&P's suck

Anyone see qualifying today? Jeff Green (37 car) took a spin, bent up the back end and still came only 2 tenths of making the race. Great job by the team, Jeff should race more :P That run earned him a lot a lot of respect from me.

Wow, Brad's on fire right now. 2 wins in 4 races, and 2 top-3's in between.

Great run by Truex too. Only downer is the news station kept interrupting the race with hurricane updates which stated the obvious every hour for 15 minutes :rage

Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards tied for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, but since Stewart had more wins in The Chase, that means he is the champion.

Seconded. I am really looking forward to this season.

Hopefully Blaney will get a sponsor.  Watching him and his new teammate Reuitimann work together in Daytona will be cool.

Also hoping that McMurray will bust out of his horrible slump from last year. Bleh.

Totally excited to see what happens with Busch in the Phoenix car and AJ in the Penske car.  Two moves I didn't see coming, but are awesome.

Dale Jr better win this year at some point, or people will cry on the streetcorners.

Oh, and Danica... Rawr.  <3 <3 <3

It's going to be a great year!

And there's Aric Almirola in the 43 now.

Hoping Vickers and Ragan can find a ride this year, there's the 23, 32, 52 and 93 rides still open for maybe a partial schedule IIRC

Dale Jr better win this year at some point, or people will cry on the streetcorners.

A lot in terms of driver changing and such.

-Ricky Stenhouse will be driving the Sprint Cup 6 for at least the 500

-Danica Patrick will be driving the 10 car for Stewart for a few races

-Clint Bowyer is driving the 15 full time for Waltrip

-Aj Allmendinger moves to Penske in place of Busch

-R3 Motorsports (23 Nationwide team) moves to Cup

-Reutimann is driving for TBR now alongside Blaney

-Aric Almirola is driving the 43 for RPM now

-Kurt Busch is now driving the 51 car for Phoenix Motorsports

-Mark Martin and Michael Waltrip will be sharing the 55 car

-the 52 Nationwide team is moving to cup with no drivers named yet

-Scott Speed moves from the 46 to the 95

bump, dp and stuff

Well it's official, Red Bull has been bought and the new team's gonna run 2 full-time cars this year. I'm happy cuz one of their drivers is Landon Cassill, one of my new favorites after last year :D

The other driver is TBA, hoping it'll be Vickers...

Also anyone else hear about the TBR/SHR owner points deal to lock Danica into the 500? Crazy stuff.
Title: Re: New NASCAR topic
Post by: Jack Daniels on February 11, 2012, 10:37:20 AM
Yeah, TBR sold the points from the 36 to SHR so that Danica would have a guaranteed spot in the D500.

I would be pretty pissed about this but the deal gets TBR tech support from Stewart and some pit crew assisstance as well (just like the Furniture row team)

Dave still had to race his way into the 500.  So I will be pretty bummed if he misses the cut.  We shall see what happens.  At least he has a sponsor for daytona now, which is nice.

I agree on Landon.  He's a heck of a driver and I look forward to seeing him race this year too.  Being locked into the first 5 races is huge for him.

Good times!  Qualifying is about a week away...  O.o

Lotsa clouds in Daytona.  :P  I'm going to follow the race online via the leaderboard, but I don't think I am going to go out of my way to find a TV to watch it on. (which involves going to the bar or a friends house.)

Hope everyone finishes the race safely.  I'm happy that Blaney made it into the race.  He's got a solid car! Hoping for at least a top 10.   McMurray seems to have a good car too & Bayne is insane on this track!

Too many good cars to choose from.  It is really anybody's race.  I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Aric Almirola stuns the world and becomes the suprise winner this year.  :D

If Danica crashes again... she won't hear the end of it for a long time.  :P

That's still not a lot of difference, really.

I think it was JD that had family that raced asphalt modifieds. Well he may be able to tell you that a chassis for a dirt modified and a chassis for an asphalt modified are two completely different animals. I think it would be safe to say that these differences would apply for an asphalt truck and a dirt truck as well.

Yeah, my in-laws raced Asphalt modifieds for 30+ years.  Closed up shop last year though.  Car and Engine are for sale... and I got a whole raceshop to dig through and organize for possible ebay sales.  I honestly don't know much about the difference in chassis since they never raced dirt ever.

My uneducated presumption for the trucks is that they probably shift nearly ALL the chassis weights to the drivers side to keep it from drifting too much.

And the pothole the previous year?

The funny thing about that was that they were already planning to repave the entire track before the next Daytona race in July... Not sure if coincidental...

If you're into oddball incidents on the racetrack, you should see some of these videos I found on YouTube.  Some of the delays you mentioned are also in these.

There are all kinds of incidents of animals on the track every year. Hell, there was one time at the local dirt track, here, that they had to throw the caution due to a snapping turtle that was on the track. He was about a foot in diameter, too. The finally managed to pick him up with a shovel and get him into a safety truck so they could go turn it loose in the woods.

I used to have 2005, it was half decent at least. If anything I liked the soundtrack and the car customization.

You should get Nascar Racing 2003, it's by far the best Nascar sim.

I wish PAL regions didn't get shat on with the lack of NASCAR games. We only got 2006: Total Team Control through 09, the last of which was ridiculously rare for PS2. Every game before that was NTSC only, even gems like Dirt to Daytona. We luckily got the PS1 games though (98 - 2001), but that's about it.

I haven't played a Nascar game in a while, not to say that I still don't like Nascar, but the last couple games haven't been very appealing to me. I believe the last one that I played that I really liked was Nascar 09 by EA sports. I loved being able to paint my cars in anyway I wanted.

I had it and there was no freedom at all when compared to the Sierra games' paint shop.

Wait is there a game that I missed here. The one I am referring to allowed you to use your computer to edit the paint of any car that you wanted. The customization was literally endless you could make the car look however you wanted.

I am confused here. You say it only had templates, but what else do you need? I mean you could grab yourself a template, paint.net, and a copy of AC3D and your ready to go. The customization for unlimited. There was no aspect of paint that couldn't be created. I don't remember the first game that had this feature, but after looking the last one was Nascar 09. Either way all this Nascar talk has got me feeling fast..... Like Rick Bobby.

Oh yeah... I was thinking of a different year's release. They're all the same anyway. But yeah, I remember reading something about being able to transfer paint schemes from your PC.

But get NASCAR Racing 2003 Season for PC. They make a new Cup Series mod every year so it's always up to date. and there's tons of other mods like rally racing and dirt track. It will cost a bit if you don't just torrent it.

After a quick look on ebay, anywhere from 70 to 90 US dollars.

Title: Re: New NASCAR topic
Post by: HurricaneAndrew on May 22, 2013, 02:55:38 PM
Yeah, I paid $80 for mine.

It's expensive for a couple reasons... The first reason being that there weren't as many made as planned. EA Sports got the exclusive rights to all NASCAR branding on video games and simulators in early 2003, forcing Sierra to halt production of their game. Which brings up the second reason of it being, in most peoples' opinions, the better of the two games. It is still highly sought after by racing sim enthusiasts.

Oh and I should mention that iRacing was originally based off of the NR2003 source code, and still contains much of the same code.

You don't. iRacing is a pay-to-play simulator. You have to pay a monthly membership like with WoW.
