Title: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread
Post by: Natef on December 22, 2009, 05:44:16 PM
Has anyone ever seen this show? I watch it on Youtube.

Here's the premise:

There's this guy named Joel Robinson who works at the Gizmonic institute. His bosses also called "Mads", Dr. Clayton Forrester and Dr. Lawrence Ehardt (replaced later with T.V's Frank) don't like him so the send him into space, on the Satelite of Love. The reason he is sent is because the Mads want to see if an amount of bad movies make humans go crazy. Joel doesn't want to be alone when he watches these horrible movies alone, so he creates 3 robots, Tom Servo (he was my former avatar), Crow, and Gypsy (she only appears in the "host segments", but I'll get into that in a bit. There was only one instance were she was in the theater, but only for 5 minutes). When they watch the movies, Tom Servo, Joel, and Crow are seen as silhouettes in the bottom, as if they were in a movie theater. While watching the movie, they make jokes, or "riffs" based on what they are watching. Several times during each movie, the movie stops for commercials (of course!), but after commercial, Joel and the bots perform host segments, where he and the bots perform skits about what they just saw.

Here's the wikipedia page, for more info:

I saw a few episodes of this on TV once, I thought it was funny. Isn't there a movie out now?

I absolutely loved this show.  It's hilarious.  By far my favorite was "Manos: the Hands of Fate".

If you miss it like I do, check out rifftrax or Cinematic Titanic.  rifftrax is by Mike Nelson.  Audio files that you play alongside the movie.  Cinematic Titanic is Joel and consists of actual videos they're riffing on.

OOOOhhh the flame bait!

Hey, we all have our opinions about it.  In my personal one, Mike=Joel.  Neither is better or worse than the other, they each have their own style with good and bad points.

I wish C.T. would come around here sometime.  I'd love to see it live.
