Title: My YouTube channel!
Post by: AHeapOfGames on January 29, 2015, 02:19:34 PM
Hi everyone! I run the YouTube channel A Heap Of Games, on which I play loads of fun games and fail miserably.

I'm not here to spam. The reason I'm here is because I thought you'd be interested in seeing me play Robot Arena 2! I've done one episode so far, and will be recording another soon. Feel free to leave feedback and/or make suggestions!

Hope you enjoy!

Adam

EDIT: This video is NOT a tutorial. Please don't click the link expecting it to be so, and please don't dislike the video for the reason that it isn't a tutorial. Please only dislike if you dislike it for what it is. =P Thanks!

I... don't know where to put this.
Either belongs in Media or RA2 General Discussion... I guess seem as though you're just advertising your channel I'll move it to Media.

If you want to learn about the game there is a huge index of tutorials here: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=17300.0 (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=17300.0)
No offense to AHOG, but this video doesn't teach you much about the game. I did enjoy the video though.

Hobo_Greef, I edited the swear out of your post, as you're new and probably haven't read the rules I won't take it further, but we don't allow foul language here so please don't in future :)

But as Lemonism says, best way to learn is to stalk other people's bots and look at tutorials. Bot building tips aren't super suited to videos.

@ Craaig, thanks for putting the thread where it probably belongs. I didn't really know where to put it! =P

@ Hobo, I would definitely do a tutorial if that would help my channel. Unfortunately, the type of audience I have would respond much more positively to the video in the style that it's currently presented in. I've already heard from someone who has watched the video and started playing the game again. =)
At the end of the day, I try to both entertain my audience and get them interested in the game. Though I don't go in-depth about how to do it, I do mention at one point that if anyone wanted some tips, I would be happy to give them.

@ Lemonism, Glad you enjoyed it! That's exactly why I created it, and I hope that I can convert those who may not have heard of the game before.

Thanks for sharing. I'm not a huge fan of facecams but that's just my opinion.

By the way, you should download This AI pack (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/StarcoreV4Alpha2.zip) or hop on the Bot Exchange (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?page=page1887) and download a few bots to see some of the things you can do with RA2 when you [ab]use the havok physics engine to it's full potential. Also, I just like seeing how people react when they try to face a heavily weaponed HS with whatever their first robot is. You can see how to do any weird stuff you see here (http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm).

Tournament mode isn't really an accurate gauge of how good your robot is either, since any broken component results in 20:00 of repair time. People on GTM tend to enter forum-wide tournaments, all with varying rulesets (examples being double elim or building a bot 125kg or under).

Thanks for the advice AS! I wasn't sure how my video (with facecam style presentation) would go down here, and unfortunately it seems that within just a few minutes the video has gained a few dislikes. Perhaps this website was not the correct place to advertise, but I decided to try nonetheless!

I will definitely be trying to download stuff in the near future to gain a better variety in gameplay. That is, unless my game crashes (even more than it already does). When I used to play, I downloaded a few packs but my game would consistently crash. So I'll be taking it very careful to avoid corrupting my game entirely.

As I've mentioned, this video is NOT for tutorial purposes. I hope that anyone following the link understands this and doesn't hit the dislike button for that reason =P It also means that I don't really have to make outstanding robots or make it hugely realistic. My aim is purely to make the game look fun and playable to those who are not familiar to it. Once they become interested, I'm sure they'll then go on to see tutorials and take it from there.

Why does everyone always build a penis?

its like a scientific law that when gamers are allowed to be creative, there will be penises

I think you did pretty good on that regard.  Some people would tell you to dive right into a Starcore AI pack, but I think the Stock AI has much more personality, which makes for much better entertainment.

Here it is. The championship is coming to an end here. Six competitions left, four robots. After a poor start in the first three competitions, the team has to step up a gear if they have any chance of winning the golden sawblade.

The Prime Minister has decided to go for an all-out attack attack. The Penetrator, Crikey O'Blimey, I Don't Know What to Call It and Prick will have to be on top form if they are to come out on top. And so will the game (darn crashes...)

And if it gets to tight, the Prime Minister has ordered an army of skilled demons to create two robots only ever witnessed in the darkest depths of hell....

It's a last resort, but they may well be required. Find out here!

Title: My YouTube channel!
Post by: AHeapOfGames on April 20, 2015, 01:49:29 PM
Hi everyone! I've come on here to introduce my YouTube gaming channel to you! I started recently, so I'm in somewhat of a "growing period". Basically, I need to do my damndest to get people watching my videos!

My channel doesn't focus on any particular game, though it does lean towards the lighter side of gaming (i.e. Indie games, humourous games). The reason I'm on this site is because I'm doing Robot Arena 2 videos as well!

The style is mostly made for humour. It's not necessarily about tutorials but showing people games that they may not have seen before and getting them interested. I do a lot of acting, using various costumes and characters, and I've been told that I'm very British. Is that good or bad?

Anyway, I hope that you decide to look at my page, and if you enjoy I'd love for you to watch some more.

Thanks for your time!
Adam

Hi again!

I've started a new series on my channel that is basically a bad rip-off of Robot Wars. I've called it Banter Wars!

There are 6 heats consisting of 36 robots created by my YouTube channel's characters. 6 will enter the Grand Final at the end, and one will be named Champion!

What do you think?! Here's episode one: https://youtu.be/j3uLWOJ4fyY
