MSN Virus
« on: April 07, 2009, 06:30:07 PM »
Hey guys. Im gonna take forum news to also mean just news thats important.

I recently was scammed by an MSN virus that steals passwords. How it works:

After it acquires a password, it sends a message with 4 links in it, unknown to the actual account holder, to all the persons friends. This link will pose as an MSN feature, and will ask for your password.

DON'T PUT IT IN! Just ignore it.

Just a warning.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

I've seen this thing 4 times. Is it this IMG thingy?

For me it showed up as 4 jpgs, and in their titles I think was '...dirty.....' or something like that.  After the 4 jpgs were 2 emoticons (don't remember which emotion).
Input is appreciated. :)

One of my friends account was sending me adult sites, saying things like "Hey, (my msn adress), im live and got my toys out, come see me at (rude site)" Yeah, sickening!
I also think this may be a botnet virus, there the most little bastards to get rid of, most anti-virus program cant find them.
See, it all has to do with certain websites, they then send a virus called Malware to your system, then they replace that malware with the second malware, giving the system  owner a Botnet.
People control these botnets, someone can own 3000 for atleast £30/$30!
The owner can then get stuff like credit card details, passwords, ect. and controll the computers.
This is basically a major crime, they did an experiment of it on BBC Click, replacing the people who had a botnet to a computer background saying that they had a botnet, saying how to get rid of it.
Then they deleted the botnets.
This is a serious problem, you can usually find help on the internet, but mostly just having your anti-virus on and all that.
So, NEVER open any junk/spam mail, and be carefull with websites a for god sake have a good anti-virus programe.
Damn I should probably put something fancy in this bit huh?

I got one of these on my self, tough i didnt enter my password on it, from one of my freinds who has some brain damage. I only know him online and that he likes to keep up on making forums on the same subject even if they keep getting hacked or "hacked" since the hacker is the same all the time and he doesnt understand to use different admin password... Some of you might of seen him post a few posts on the origional forums, his account name is sergeim.
Anyway, he just logged on gave me a link and logged off the same second. Behind the link I saw a page saing:
Meet your MSN freinds online!
And then it was asking for password and account email.

Red, once Sage got the bug, it then sent an IM to me from him with the above mentioned jpg files and 2 smileys. It looked exactly like Sage put them there for me to D/L whenever I found them..... So it's not like it's that obvious for some parties involved (i.e. some foreign link, to a website or exe or xxx.xxx.xxx, or such).

JPG files. Huh. Was it a link or actual downloads? Don't think I read clear enough.

Well, the label bore "XXXXXX.jpg", but either it was an exe or had a link to a site. I closed it ASAP.  Can't provide more info since it was a quick glance only, because it began 'executing'...

Hmm. If it was self-activating, then I can sympathise.

The only MSN viruses I've seen people have only do links to pictures from 'Photobukket' and those custom links which have your email address on.

Yeah I think I know the one you're talking about. A lot of my friends got that virus. One of your friends that already has the virus talks to you one msn saying "Hey, is this you in this pic? You look rly hot! *link here*" Then you click the link and you automatically get the virus that you pass on to others. I laughed at the people who got it, who could be such a dumbass? No offence if anybody here got that one.
