« on: March 21, 2010, 07:57:21 AM »
Does anybody know of a good free program that can convert midi files into .wav or .avi or something?

Thanks.

I just use what I use for everything - Audacity. You don't need to import it, just set it up to record the 'stereo mix' (basically the output from your computer), press record, play the sound, stop recording then export as an mp3

Here you go:

First few on the list look like possible winners. They are shareware and freeware.

edit>preferences>Audio I/O>Recording>Device>*there should be something involving Stereo Mix or Wave Out here*

If it doesn't show up, I did find this article
http://www.computeractive.co.uk/computeractive/q-and-a/2249298/mix-recording

And thanks, I'm hoping to make some at least vaguely useful contributions, even if it's just sense-making or error-correcting like most of it so far XD

We have a new poll on the main page. You couldn't possible guess who made it. (Look at the third last option)

If you don't mind the output being MP3 files, here's one:

Oldie but goodie.

Also the quality depends on the the software wavetable you use / the MIDI hardware you have.
