Yeah, I don't know. On the one hand, he was the King of Pop during the '80s. On the other, he did fiddle children.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I initially felt about it.

Kind of like OJ Simpson (finally) going to prison. He was a star athlete in his day, but then he was also a murderer...

Edit: Good Lord, S32, but still a good one! lol

If anyone remembers Michael for what Michael Jackson did outside of music, then you're a retard. He is one of the top three most important musical artists of all time, whether you want to believe it or not. The king of pop defined pop music, electrified MTV, and brought black and white's together through music.

Everyone goes nuts eventually. Michael was just nuts a little early in life.

Tis a shame.

Would you also agree that anyone who thinks of OJ as a murderer instead of that football player who was in all of those Naked Gun movies is a retard?

Quote from: infiniteinertia;46641

Yes, he did innovate there for a decade.

electrified MTV,

That's pretty true. Videos like "Thriller" really boosted MTV into the superpower they are now.

Quote from: infiniteinertia;46641
and brought black and white's together through music.

Now that one is pure bullsh**! There is still a huge racial divide between blacks and whites. Besides, that song was crap.

Michael Jackson hasn't put out a good tune since the '80s. Actually, looking back, he really only had the two great albums (Thriller and Bad). Perhaps if he had stuck with Quincy Jones his career would have taken a different course.

It depends. He was a tremendous athlete. And I for one would know.

The racial divide in this country is all blown up by the media. The only racial divide still occurs in many southern states.

I don't really equate the British Invasion with pop. I equate them with what started Rock N Roll.

Remember, he was also a child star. And those two albums, combined, have sold more collectively than 99% of other artists have sold with any two albums.

that is true the beetles started the movement of rock into the music world before AC/DC made it more what it is today

but none the less Micheal Jackson did change the music world in a very positive way, as you may have seen on the news he is missed by millions

That's the first time I've ever seen anyone give that much credit to AC/DC. I like AC/DC, but I don't think they were THAT innovative.

Quote from: infiniteinertia;46817

Why should you know? You weren't old enough to see him play. And why would it depend? Both men allegedly did awful things.

Quote from: infiniteinertia;46817

That is not true at all. When I was in high school, I thought the same thing. Once I entered the real world, I began to see how wrong I was.

Quote from: infiniteinertia;46817

I assumed you were talking about song structure. If you're talking more about generalized sound, Michael did pioneer that bubble gum sound used today by Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and various others. Though to be fair, Quincy Jones deserves some of that credit. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't have had the funky sound of New Jack (Thriller and on).

When talking about Michael Jackson's solo career, people are generally referring to New Jack. In the New Jack era, his first two albums were amazing. The remaining three were fairly mediocre.

I still think Michael Jackson was a great musician. In fact, I was really hoping he would bounce back with the tour he had planned. That said, he was a human with lots of flaws. To pretend otherwise is just foolish.

My father idolized OJ as an athlete. Yeah he's a f'n moron and whatever other names you want to call him, and yeah he killed his wife, I just dont like to think about that sh**, so I'd rather remember him as an athlete.

I've seen the south, that I know is 100% true. The other part, just my opinion.

AC/DC made the first ever performance video clip which is now a common thing for Rock Bands, before then video clips were narratives or contained a storyline/ meaning. also they did pretty much create the Hard Rock genre

I did a full report on them in a media course this year and there originally from my home state so im a pretty big fan

Actually the hard rock genre started with such bands as Led Zeppelin, The Who, and Deep Purple... AC/DC probably marked the difference between Heavy Metal and Hard Rock, because they hated being called a "Heavy Metal" band...

When Michael Jackson realized he was going to have to face Saint Peter at the Pearly Gates, he quickly enlisted the help of Billy Mays because he knew he was going to need the best salesman he could get.
