I can't see the chatterbox, so I posted it here. :P

How do you solve this?

Cause this is going to work so well.

Cause this is going to work so well.

I just need help...

I'm doing my Algebra I homework now, so I need an answer or even a step quick.

Hell if I know... I shouldn't have passed math in high school, but it was my senior year and they didn't want to deal with me for another whole year.  :laughing

Edit: Does PEMDAS mean anything to you?

Start by multiplying both parts by (2c+2)(c-1) to get rid of the bottom halves of the equation. What does it equal, by the way?

Post by: NFX on May 03, 2011, 07:04:09 PM
Are you trying to figure out what c is? Because you need some sort of equivelant for the equation you have at the moment, otherwise it makes absolutely no sense. 6c is meaningless on its own, but 6c=30 is easy enough to solve. You see what I mean there? =]

[4c/(2c + 2)] x [(c^2 + 3c + 2)/(c-1)]
= (2 + 2c) x (c - c^2) + (3 - 3c) + (2/c - 2)
= 2 + 2c x c - c^2 + 3 - 3c + 2/c - 2
= 2 + 2c^2 - c^2 + 3 - 3c + 2/c - 2
= 3 + c^2 - 3c + 2/c

LOL that's totally wrong but I tried. I just came here to tell you to check your PMs. :P

What does it equal, by the way?

I'm pretty sure he's trying to simplify it rather than solve it.

Okay, I'm getting this.

But first, what's (c+2) / (c-1)?

What does it equal, by the way?

I'm pretty sure he's trying to simplify it rather than solve it.

Yeah, I have to simplify it down to the smallest expression possible, where I cannot possibly find c.

Ah, I see. Been at least two years since I did this sort of thing. So multiplying it out would be the first step.

(4c/[2c+2])x([c^2+3c+2]/[c-1])
=(4c[c-1])x([c^2+3c+2][2c+2])
=(4c^2 - 4c) x (2c^3 + 8c^2 + 10c + 4)
=(8c^5 + 24c^4 + 8c^3 - 24c^2 - 16c)

I think that should be the answer. No denominators and such. =]

Okay, I'm getting this.

But first, what's (c+2) / (c-1)?

1 + 1/2c - c - 2? (I'm just guessing btw, if I turn out to be right I'll throw a party)

How do you solve this?
First part:
2c/c +2
Second part
c+3+2/ -1

This took me less then 5 mins :P

I'm afraid I have to mention you're wrong on that one. =] First part, you have to divide everything on the bottom by two if you're doing it that way, and the second part, c is not a factor of 2, and you've just left it there. I'm pretty sure I've gotten it right, provided I've not overlooked anything stupid.

tbh, i was just doing what i remembered from earlier this year when we learned this, so it pretty much proves it doesn't stick even though i'm a honors student :P

Well, NFX and Fracture helped me get the first 3 steps down, which I didn't have before, and I just did the rest myself. Then I typed it up on Paint.

So it's not like it was for teh lulz.

On the third from last step, how did you get the (c-2)(c-1) on top?

How do you solve this?
You can't solve something that isn't an equation.

factor the trinomial then cancel some stuff out.

I looked thorough freeziez's answer and the last 4 steps make no sense to me, stuff seems to appear randomly. I just get 2c^2+4c/c-1

Yup, that 5th step is like WAYYYY out there dude.

(C-2)(C-1) = C^2 - 3C + 2

You forgot to retain the '2' on the numerator after cancelling the stuff from the first step.
